Has political correctness actually gone mad?

Why did he change his handle?

Because people made up their mind it was racist, before asking him, and told him he could whisper Damien for namechange. Just search for Aryanmanutdfan , and go to the last couple posts with that name, those are his replies to people asking about his name.

Page 623 post #24894 in the Sanchez transfer thread, couldn't find them by searching his old name obviously
Named Martia11 now.

So he changed it to avoid having to explain it every time someone gets the wrong end of the stick? So his name is actually Aryan? He must have this problem all the time then, unlucky guy....

Thing is, its the kind of handle where people are gonna ask questions... I would have, I probably already did.

It's a common name in India. And no, I doubt he gets stick for having this name in India.

He shouldn't have to defend his own name.
And the word "aryan" isn't any racist at all, it's the name of a race.

Yes it reminds me of the Hindu use of swastika. All about the context, he's unlucky because if that's your handle you'll probable get asked the same question over and over unless...

You're in an environment where the context is understood.

@van der star
All the 'Aryan's I knew in India were about 10-15 years younger than me (they would have been born in the early 2000s). Was it a common name before that as well? I can't remember a single person my age or older with that name.

As i said, these are the situations where political corectness has gone mad, not things that are obviously racist or offensive.

If i remember correctly (spoke to him quite a bit in The Caf's clash of clans clan), he should be about that age.

I grew up in India in the late 90s and most of the 2000s and I personally knew maybe a couple of fellas with that name, but I do remember hearing that name often enough on TV or in movies.

On the topic of disastrous interviews, check this monstrosity from Kay Burley.

Standard Burley. She's so obnoxious and one sided, it's easy to side with the guy, even though in reality what he does is very questionable.

"I know a lot about lions".

Yeah course you do.

My missus says it means 'noble' in sanskrit, so not 'massive racist' like many assumed:lol:
It defo didn't translate well tbf.

I found out today at work that we're not allowed to refer to some patients as 'IVDU's (Intravenous Drug User), and instead have to refer to them as PWID's - Person Who Injects Drugs.

Can anyone tell me the fecking difference between the two? Bloody ludicrous.

Whatever the reason, I doubt it’s anything to do with political correctness. Probably administrative, could IVDU be mixed up with any other acronyms?

Not as far as I'm aware. I haven't completely got the ins and outs of it yet, and it'll take a very long time to phase out because everyone knows what an IVDU is. I feel the PWID is almost more offensive (if it is coming from a correctness viewpoint), sounds simpler and somehow a bit condescending.

Drug administration can be intramuscular or subcutaneous too, in addition to IV.

Fair enough, good point. I've only met one person who injected their drugs subcutaneously though. It was tanning chemicals, really weird.

They probably want to be clearer with the terms being used, as treatment would vary, depending on the mode of administration. It's true though, almost all the cases I've seen so far were IV users.

Sounds odd as there is no gender bias or anything in either.
Similarly, why did STDs become STIs? Means the same thing too.

I suspect the fact that the word 'disease' has such negative connotations/implies it's incurable almost.

I think they should have kept it, if you're stupid enough to dip your knob in a festering vag without protection, then you deserve a disease.

Does infection sound so much better than diseased? Handicapped got replace by disabled. For me the former was better- yes they're handicapped, but can still do stuff. Disabled sounds like they can't do anything.

In my opinion, no. I agree, handicap sounds more appropriate to me. Also suggests that they are skilled at golf, which many are anyway.

:lol:Hadn't thought of that.

Similar to what we were discussing yesterday. People need to stop being arrogant and ignorant to the point that they start telling other people what their culture and language should be like.

Last week a homosexual man was assaulted with a brick (among other things) by three immigrants in Amsterdam. Before the assault they had already verbally abused him on the subway, screaming derogatory terms at him. As a reaction Amsterdam's night mayor made the assumption that the three gentlemen in question might have assaulted the man, because they're frustrated they are discriminated against themselves and vented their anger on another minority. Absolute bllx ofcourse.

People from less fortunate countries, especially predominantly Islamic countries, are less accepting of gay people, how is this hard to admit. It's not racist either, it's a simply fact. I agree the tone of debate in Europe has become harder lately with the rise of right wing politicians like Le Pen and Wilders in The Netherlands, but this is the other end of bonkers.

Yup, not that you'll get much support for such views and you'll probably be shouted at for being racist . It's a cultural thing, particularly with immigrants from islamic countries. They're backwards vs western values and it's a big clash when they settle in modern westernised countries. It's their respect for women that rally winds me up, it's basically non existent.

Do you have a different mayor for the daytime?

Do you have a different mayor for the daytime?
We do, night mayor is not a political title. It's an unofficial title for a person that's very influential in a city's nightlife. There are elections, but it's nothing political.

Ok, gotcha. It's a great idea. Especially for a City like Amsterdam. Re the reason you mentioned him, I agree that it sounds like what he said was nonsense but what do you think could have been gained if he'd said "this assault was motivated by Islamic homophobia". How would that make Amsterdam a better/safer place to live? Because you can certainly see how it could have the opposite effect.

I don't think he should've said Islamic homophobia, he should've had just condemned homophobia in general without looking for a cause, or in this case an excuse. Homophobia is wrong, period. And so is Racism, or Islamophobia or pretty much all forms of phobia.

Except Arachnophobia, that was a proper scary movie when I was little.

Ok, yeah. Gotcha. If he really did use their background as an excuse (rather than an explanation) then that's pretty lame.

 "I saw him at the cotton field"

Trying to excuse homophobes because of victimhood status is obviously a far far more stupid idea than just condemning the homophobia. Unless you actually want Wilders elected of course.
To be honest, Wilders is old news now. The new kid in town is Thierry Baudet. He's like a younger more handsome Wilders with LVG's narcissism. Him and Wilders could almost make a majority in parliament in the poles. Which is a rather alarming fact.

What's the difference between them, politically speaking? Why are they not fighting under the same banner? Because they both have to be top dog in their own yard?

Thierry Baudet's shtick is that he wants to break down the 'party cartel' as he calls it. All political power rests with a few older parties (VVD, CDA, PVDA) making it nearly impossible to get a real foothold for new comers. This isnt entirely untrue, since PVDA lost nearly all their seats last election yet is still supplying the most mayors of all parties. Wilders' party for instance, had a lot more votes, but supply no mayors, since all other parties (except Baudet) shun him. Baudet is also much less outspoken about islam, but against all forms of immigration none the less. He likes to wear a mask of decency but is a narcissistic douchebag underneath at all.

I don't pretend to be unbiased though since I'm a bit of a lefty :)
