Harry Winks

Why do people keep persisting with this bullshit? At this point, are you actively ignoring all the links with foreign players and jurst pretending we are only after British talent?

“People see what they want to see and what people want to see never has anything to do with the truth.” Roberto Bolaño

The link with this guy just seals it for me. We truly want to be Brexit fc. Cantwell Longstaff Rice Maddison Grealish Maguire Bissaka James. Apparently we have the biggest scouting network but have managed to limit ourselves to overhyped, overpriced British players
United DNA

Winks would be thoroughly underwhelming.

One of those players I look at and think "What do you actually do?"

And that isn't criteria for claiming he's the next Michael Carrick, which is a comparison bandied about being hes a 'quarterback' at Spurs. They are poles apart in quality.

If he was called Harri Winkinho people on here would be getting giddy. True story. Not foreign so can't be any good right boys?

Yeah same with Jones and Cleverley too. If they were called Jonic and Cleverinho they would have been rated even higher

People still keep repeating the same shit when half of the forum rates almost everyone in the England squad and even the players in championship.

This is so true

I think he's a decent player and would be a good squad option, but given how much Spurs would demand for him it will almost certainly not be worth it. He also had quite a few injury problems.

No surprise if he leaves though, always thought he'd be one of the first Jose tries to get rid of.

Would be a good addition to the first 11, never mind the squad. I wouldn't go overboard on the price though. Anything around 30m would be decent. Or maybe 20m+matic.

Spurs would never sell to us. Even if they don't want him, they would be afraid of strengthening a direct rival for 4th place.

He's fecking shit. Ornstein has become quite crap since moving to the Athletic, I can't see us looking at him. He does nothing we're looking for.
I think he lost his Arsenal mole/hook-up a little while ago. Been chancing it for a fair bit and now he’s got The Athletic stimulus.

He’s like Tom Cleverley version 2. An utterly pointless player who does not do anything except passing sideways

This. Also this British only is getting pretty boring now.

Every time we re linked with a British player, this brexit stupidy crops up.
Just for the record yesterday we were linked with a Mexican and with a Portuguese player.

Very nice but when it’s all said and done it will be the English guy that we get.

Whether you rate him or not, there's not an iota of a chance that this is happening. Levy is not gonna let Jose sell any of their talented kids to us. We inquired in recent years over Dier, Danny Rose, Harry Kane, Alderweireld, Bale etc and have been laughed at every time with some astronomical outrageous price quoted that we more than likely will never pay.

He'd be our second best midfielder. But should be a rotation player really.

Considering our current level, it would be a good piece of business.

Quality player who would vastly improve us but I’m concerned about his injury record and doubt Spurs would sell for anything other than a ridiculous price. Must be more realistic options than this.

I remember earlier in the season when spurs drew or lost to Newcastle and myself and a Spurs fan both said he was poor. Just sideways passing. Another Tom Cleverly.

Hes basically Cleverley (and no more talented and not really any better). No thank you.

Ah cheers, thought it had gone downhill for some reason, makes sense.

He is a decent squad player but not good enough to be a starter for any of the top 6 sides in my opinion. I like him but I wouldnt be upset if we sold him.

Not a chance that we are in for him. We've heard a lot recently about how bad an agent Pogba's fat one is. I'd say dealing with Levy for a contracted young english player must run that pretty close. This is classic agent leaks. He's not making the Spurs team even though they have injuries there, let's link him to Utd, put pressure on Spurs. Move on, nothing here, even if there was, the fee would be stupid for a very limited player

Winks is the epitome of a nothing player. It would be just like United to add another non-penetrative passer to the midfield ranks.

I actually like him a lot.

Me too, I think he's a very tidy footballer - think he's definitely Englands best option for DM anyway... Which I guess isn't saying much, but yeah he's light years better then the lad at West Ham who's name escapes me for whatever reason.

Don't really find him that impressive.

We need better players than this.

I wonder how people assess players because Winks is someone I rate. Injuries are what makes me a bit scare of this potential (albeit probably fake news) transfer though. He's 23 and can play across the midfield, is good technically and positionally but because he doesn't spray Hollywood balls about or generate much for the Youtube highlights reel people don't rate him? I don't see how he works in our setup but he'd be immediately better than what we currently have.

He's young and English so Ole will have a semi already for him.

Busquets doesn't play 'hollywood balls' either but is/was genuinely brilliant at playmaking from deep. Winks isn't a bad player by any means. But he's fairly generic and nowhere near top class from what I've seen.

It's about time we focus on signing technical excellent CMs with genuine class and quality on the ball and in their playmaking/passing ability. And not just look at silly boxes to tick like tidy and English.

Maybe I'm underrating him but not been overly impressed from what I've seen.
