It's a shame, I was sick to the back teeth seeing Diana across all the front pages for decades. I don't support the way the press report on the Royals and find the interest in them bizarre. When I was younger I disliked the concept of a Royal family but they do bring in people to visit this damp and miserable island and are a net benefit last I looked so I wouldn't want to see an end to the pomp and ceremony. Of course these heavy socialists communist types want it all stopped but I think we'd be worse off and lose some appeal.

I suspect the point he is trying to make is that this is not do with racism.
Also people on here forget the way Camilla was treated at the start by the media/public and the hostility towards Camilla was considerably worse than how Meghan has been treated.

That's specious at best though. In reality she gets it with added racial undertones, so in a different way.
There was more of a media frenzy around Diana, and I do remember the opprobrium aimed at Camilla, but that was after Diana had passed into sainthood in the media's eyes. Regardless, not sure how the 'Diana had it worse' line is somehow deemed an excuse for the incessant dog-whistle racism directed at Meghan?

If you step back and take the longer view, don't you think Harry could be the one who's had enough of this shit? Like you said, they hounded his mother and now they are coming at his wife, he has publicly admitted issues with depression which doesn't seem out of the plausibilities considering what he's been through. May be he just doesn't want the scrutiny of public life anymore and if he wants to strike out on his own, fair play to him.
I agree with you that Harry has long been uncomfortable with the royal life and that Megan will have only enforced feelings in him that were already there. The idea that they can escape from public life is a false though. They still want to take part in Royal duties so will be exposed to public glare but they also have a level of fame that they can never escape. If anything this move will increase scrutiny on them. It looks like they are agitating to be royals on their own terms more than anything.
