No its not fair to say that. Since Ole took over united were the 3rd highest points collector. Leicester were 10th.
Rodgers took over on Feb 26th. Leicester took home the 5th most points while United took home the 12th. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Like I said, Leicester are extremely ambitious and crucially, now in a position to challenge for the top 6. Not just that, we’re strong enough to refuse to sell to a rival for those places.

The thing I don’t get is how Leicester can value him at £80m. If I was Leicester I would snap their hand off. They can get a half decent replacement for much less money. They can afford to take a gamble on some youngster in the French or German league - someone like Jonathan Tah.

£80m is a helluva lot of money for Maguire. Clearly way too much for his talent but we are in a desperate situation and I personally feel signing him and AWB our back four will be a lot stronger this season.

Just need a DM to replace Herrera and Fellaini. In fact I find it amazing we are linked with Bruno Fernandes at all. Doesn’t fit into our system. Are we intending to put Pogba back into a midfield two again and letting our back 4 get exposed like it always does when he plays there? CB, DM and RW still required imo. I think we will only get one more player in.

To be honest. 60 £ mill is a good and right price for Maguire and Leicester. Dont be too greedy.
City bought John Stones from Everton. A premier league proven and promising cb. For 47.5 mill £ + 2.5 add on. No way Maguire is 20 £ mill better than Stones.

Maguire is better than John Stones in the air, but on the ground Maguire is no way near Stones ball control and skills. So City was right to bid 60 £ mill. Right. Max for him. Take or leave it.

And Van Dijk cost Liverpool 75 mill £. Its a big chance Van Dijk can win Ballon Dor this year. A World class CB. And Maguire is not near world class. 60 £ mill and 15 mill lower than Van Dijk is the right price. Maguire should cost as much as Stones and Kyle Walker price. Maguire is max on the level of Stones and Kyle Walker. In theirs each position. Kyle Walker is a really good RB and close to top level. And City paid 50 mill £ with add ons for Walker and Spurs.

Sum up and conclusion. 50-60 £ mill with add on is the right and good price for Maguire. And Leicester shall be satisfy with that. And they only paid Hull City 12 mill, potentially rising to £17 million with add-ons. And two years after. You are not satisfy with 60 £ mill?or United 70 £ mill. Clearly overpay.

It’s pretty clear, Leicester want £80M and will not entertain any offers below that. We’ve already bid in the region of £60M for Harry Maguire and it’s been rejected.

It’s simple - pay up if you want him or f*** off elsewhere.

I hope it is happening.

I wonder if Ed is thinking Leicester’s demands may come down the nearer we get to deadline day, as they are clearly going to be left with an unhappy player if reports are to be believed. Also he’s probably trying to save face a bit, after telling Mou (allegedly) that Maguire was no better than what we had and was over-priced last year.
Hope he doesn't wait too long I read Leicester want enough time to get a replacement. If they don't have enough time to get a replacement they could well tell Woody to feck off mate:annoyed:

I wonder if Maguire is of more value to Leicester than Mahrez was, because they took £60m from City quick enough for that cnut.

He'd won them the league and given them an extra season pretty much. Think it was a goodwill gesture him leaving so seamlessly.

They're currently in a rebuild and are clearly desperate to hold onto Maguire. Say it quietly, but based on last season, we're probably one of the teams they're hoping to close the gap on again next season. Selling us their best defender will make that task almost impossible.

Mahrez made it clear he wanted out from memory, whereas Harry seems to be behaving in a more professional manner. No one really knows what goes on behind the scenes but I suspect that’s part of it, if he threw his toys out the pram and refused to train etc, leicester I suspect would be a bit more open to negotiating on price.

He’s better than Stones on the ball, He’s a far better defender than Stones all around.

And replace the goals with?
What goals? All 12 of them? Sergio Ramos scored 11 goals last season, so congrats Rom, you got one more goal than a centre back. Well bloody done, you sure are earning that 250k a week.

Mate, Lukaku is shit. We could play any one of Rashford, Sanchez, Martial or Greenwood at #9, and that's without making a new signing, which we probably would.

Agreed. Although that's not hard, Stones is the most overrated centre back in world football. I really hope he's starting for City next season.

My only concern with Maguire is that he is too error prone. The cumbersome speed I can get over because Shaw or Wan Bissaka can cover and Lindelof isn't exactly a slow coach either. But I've seen a few moments where he gets beat too easily or is too composed and fluffs his play.

But hopefully it's an error that he can reduce through experience. He's still a beast in the air and those corners would be far more comfortable to defend with him in the box for us. Stick him near post and he should be able to snuff out most deliveries.

Great play coming out when he has time, and he's not afraid to join midfield. If Lindelof builds a good wavelength with him then it can work for us. At this stage we should just stomach the fee, there isn't much better for cheaper.

Yes we are taking offers for him, but, we have a valuation which United and Maguire have been told and that unless it is met he isn’t leaving, literally everyone knows this.

Stop underbidding and match it if you want him, we haven’t changed our position at all during this, it is the fact that you won’t pay what we want, you are doing the same thing to Madrid and Inter with Pogba and Lukaku, don’t go off when another club does it to you

Comparing Maguire to Pogba/Lukaku is apples to oranges.

Pogba, United have made a firm stance stating they will not sell him and thus the Real Madrid’s of the world have backed off. Lukaku, he’s on the verge of being sold and is being held out of pre season games because of it. Maguire? Leicester are flip-flopping and continue to play him while penny pinching and being open for business...a lot of mixed signals and piss takes if you ask me with regards to Maguire.

It's not mixed signals. Lukaku has publically stated he wants out so he's obviously going to be out of our pre season team. Maguire hasn't publically stated his desire to leave nor has he handed in a transfer request. He's been reportedly quite professional (albeit frustrated but professional) and would earn pre season time. Leicester are probably calm on the situation, as even if they keep Maguire they can trust him to continue giving his all for the club based on how he's behaved.

All smoke & mirrors this one.
Along with Bruno Fernandes, I would doubt very much if either of these 2 are signed by United.

How many errors did he make last season that you can find?

Lukaku went 2 and a half months without scoring last season which is terrible for a forward. During that time even Sanchez scored 1, although it was the only one he scored all season . Neither can be relied on in my opinion mate.

  1. Leicester are extremely ambitious.
  2. Leicester don’t want to sell him.
  3. Leicester don’t need the money.
  4. Maguire isn’t forcing a move (likely because he’d prefer to go to Man City)
  5. Leicester wouldn’t need to buy a replacement.
  6. Hull City have a sell-on clause, so the higher the fee the better for us.
  7. Leicester rate Maguire very highly.
  8. He’s one of the best CBs in the league and a full England international.
  9. He’s entering his prime and has potential to be top class.
  10. You’ve just spent £50m on a RB with one season in the Prem.
  11. Leicester won’t, and can’t be bullied.
  12. There’s 3 weeks until the window closes and the price will start going up.

So according to Al Jabeeba, de Ligt is going to Juve for 67.5 million pounds and we can't sign some kid from Leicester for 80 million. Somebody needs to find who does Juve's transfers and keep turning up at their house with wheelbarrows of money until they come and work for United.

The obvious difference is Ajax were willing to sell for that price due to an agreement they had with the player though? It's a pretty major thing.

I think that if United manage to sell 1 or 2 of our defenders (Darmian and Rojo for instance), then we would have the money and space to get Maguire. So instead of looking at transfer rumours regarding United buying players, we should be focussing on transfer rumours regarding other clubs wanting to buy United's defenders.

The way some posters talk about him, you’d think De Ligt is a Ronaldo and Messi hybrid with multiple CLs under his belt.

Great selective representation of facts.

Leicester can value him at 200 million if they want, when are fans of the richest clubs going to cotton on that smaller clubs don't need to sell if they don't want to - we all have money now and Leicester feel no need to sell him hence the big price tag.

In a way I hope for his sake this transfer won't go through, if he arrives for 80 million (not his fault in the slightest) the slating he will get from some fans after his first mistake will be massive.

On the other hand totally agree with the bolded bit, with Maguire and AWB your defence will be infinitely better than last year.

Finally Leicester won't go for Tah, apparently they already have Dunk lined up from Brighton.

That makes complete sense. There was me thinking Ajax and Leicester was setting the fee’s. Little did I know.. we set the fee then make the payment.

Well in fairness, Ramos probably scored 10 of his goals on penalties….

Agree with most of this, all league clubs will now only sell for financial (getting rid of players not wanted) or player pressure reasons.

Regarding the price tag for Harry, it could be a millstone, but suspect he is sensible enough to cope. (Don`t see him going all "JLingz" on you :))

I also doubt we would go for Dunk (Or Tarkowski), as Brendan has come out said there is no value in such transfers  (Cheeky bugger!)

City bought Stones 3 years ago. He was younger than Maguire and hadn't played as a starting CB in a World Cup like Maguire has. Maguire is clearly PL proven too.

Also the market has inflated massively in 3 years.

Chortle! City over paid for Stones who has MASSIVE flaws in his game, Maguire is easily worth £20 million more than Stones and then some, I would rather get Pallister out of retirement than have Stones in my defence.

Van Dijk, was purchased from Southampton a club in considerably weaker financial and league position than Leicester, Southampton have a history of selling players on, Leicester far less so since their return to the prem

I am repeating myself but the idea that anybody but Leicester can put a price on Maguire is ridiculous and to call them greedy is pure stupidity, they have not put him up for sale, do not want to sell, how is that greed? Are Utd greedy for asking upwards of £150 million for Pogba, and £80 million plus for Lukaku?

When Coutinho goes for £130m we are fair to ask for £180m for Pogba. When Morata gets sold for £50m we are fair to ask over £70m for Lukaku.. But when the best CB in the league cost £75m I don’t see how Maguire is considered ‘more’ expensive.

It's a crazy markt and we have ti get used to it. We need to stop p!ssing Leicester about or I have a feeling they are going to tell us to feck off, as I've read they don't desperately need the cash. Would make more sense for them to keep him, so they can build on last season and try to push for a European place.
