You have to give credit where credit is due, he is mentally tough, literally everyone wanted him out of the club, the noise was incessant but he rose to the top. He is limited in his ability with this type of system, but he is a colossus in the box for crosses and headed goals.

Not everyone wanted to sell our best CB.

He got ridiculed for a long time by everyone in football so hope he enjoyed it as much as possible.

Totally, a lot of fans have stood by Harry, he’s not the best defender in the world but he gets it, he cares and he loves the club and he will always put his body on the line for club and country.

His turnaround is one of the greatest episodes of mental resilience I have ever seen.

Maguire’s defending and reaction to Onana’s parry was horrendous.

He came up with the vital goal but that was his main and only contribution.

I agree, got pelters for it, especially from one chap who followed me around the forum quoting every post I made that suggested Maguire wasn't the root cause of every single one of our problems.

He's our best CB post-SAF. It's not a high-bar, we overpaid and he lacks the pace / mobility to be a top, top CB - he's a clumsy tractor of a player at times, but he's our tractor  I have a lot of respect for him personally.

Same. People even argued Lindelof was better with me

Agree, overpaid but that £10-20m is insignificant compared to what's been blown elsewhere.

Marouane Maguire.

This + Forest's success just furthers my thinking that football is moving back to being more direct and focused on needing an aerial presence up top and a return of more traditional wingers. Likely most CBs these days are nowhere near as good in the air as CBs used to be on average and much better with the ball - we need to get ahead of the curve and play 442 again.

Didn't like his performance defensively but that goal was fantastic moment. 4 goals scored this season so far which is nice to see, in previous seasons it felt like he'd score more often for England than United.

If we win the Europa league, that goal will change Maguire's legacy here for good.

Quite happy for him that he has turned it around, and when he eventually leaves United there will be a lot of good moments along with the bad.

You two are relentless. In moments like this i think that you are just wumming. Because, surely you can't be serious with all this shit.

I just realized that Maguire also assisted Dalot for the 2nd goal, not just scored a winner. It was a tremendous 50m pass

He deserves those kind of moments for everything he went through and how he battled back from it. You can argue about whether he's good enough as a player but there's absolutely no doubt that his mentality is needed in this squad.

You know he’s had a tough time here with the captaincy stripped from him and been on the end of a lot of criticism but he’s kept his head down and improved he’s been good for us for a long time now fair play

Anytime you concede 4 goals it can't have been a great defensive performance by your CB, but Harry was nevertheless magnificent with his assist (not sure if official) on the Dalot goal and the glorious match winner.

Thought he had a decent match overall. Some excellent passing and strong defensive contributions. Should have probably got his head in the way of the cross for one of Lyon’s goals but made up for that with the great winner at the end. The defensive issues were more around Shaw and Yoro (both understandable for different reasons).

He's our combine harvester and we won't give out the key

His mentality must be elite level. For the shit he's gotten over the last 5 years. Stick him up front against Wolves.

Its well known that I'm a Maguire sceptic but, honestly, how can you do anything but praise him for standing up to be counted last night?

On a night when we conceded four its a bit strange to praise a defender. However, last night it came down to who could cope with the pressure best. Maguire was one of those who was at it when it mattered.

An iconic moment at the end, but several moments of defensive calamity in the 2nd half and extra time (not just from him but the entire back line).

I don't know what was going through his mind ducking out of the cross. I guess in a non-game situation if someone whacks a ball at my head I'll duck out of the way, but if I'm an experienced, highly paid central defender famed for my aerial ability, in a European quarter final, I'd like to think I'd get on my head on it!

Or maybe he thought it was going so fast he was afraid of scoring an own goal, who knows! Wasn't good though!

He's a likeable player with a lot of admirable qualities, but our defence will always look shaky if he's at the heart of it.

I don’t know whether it is elite mentality or just a desperation not to give up life as a United player, either way, it shows great determination.

Those saying he is our best CB are being silly though. He is behind de Ligt, Mazrouai and Yoro playing in a back 3, and probably a fit Shaw too.

It’s just nice to see such a maligned and memed player have his moment. If we can go on to win it, he will have a completely different legacy than he would have done, and I think we can all agree that is nice for him.

Bilbao will be tough, but I hope we get a special occasion this season. The fans deserve it and so does Maguire.
