Lindelof and Maguire could be something special. Both have unique qualities to make this a strong partnership.

Best CB performance by a United CB since the days of Rio and Vidic

If today was the standard then he'll have the same impact for us that VVD had for Liverpool

Yup, let's hope it continues. Having a player of Maguire's calibre alongside Lindelöf clearly benefits The Iceman as well. We could be on to something good here.

i loved the fact after the 3rd goal he joined the celebrations with what looked like a team talk for the lads, maybe Lindelof will learn from him, harry is without the best in the league with headers
Yeah a captain on the pitch already. This guy will lead us to a league title before he’s done. I have no doubt

Finally a CB who doesn't get nervous while having the ball in his feet. A joy to watch. Goodbye Smalling and Jones era.

Excellent performance, started off having a few issues with positioning in his partnership with Lindelof, to be expected given their handful of days training together, a few simialr problems in that left channel with Shaw but grew into the game and had a very strong second half performance. More of that that and I will be(happily)forced to change my mind on him.

Looked a lot leaner than in his Leicester days to me as well, might be just the shirt I suppose.

Not sure if Smalling, Jones or Rojo are injured, but I am definitely pleased with Lindelof and Maguire as starting CBS(expected of course) and Tuenzebe on the bench.

Good debut, not many of his driving runs but was composed and looked confident and in control of the back 4.

Aye, those praising him highly have only ever watched him in one solitary game.

Are we now trying to pretend that opinion on Maguire were always this consistent? He had a fantastic match but once again we need to reign ourselves in. Folks could learn a bit or two from what Maguire himself said post-match.

I hope you're right.

During the celebration of the first goal I noticed his instructing the players and speaking to them like a leader and captain.

He will be great

I was surprised by how we were able to be on the front foot most of the game, he had a lot to do with it.

Very impressive today. There were two or three times that he just won the ball on crosses so easily, when last season the same crosses would have resulted in shots on target with Jones or Smalling. Such a confidence booster to have two center backs who are not getting bullied by opponents.

He also won the ball that, and made the pass to Rashford for our second goal. Good stuff.

Hopefully this is s sign of things to come. Best of luck lad, we really needed you!

Looked the part for us today exactly what we have been missing and i am sure he will get better

If this form continues, it will be money well spent - looked like he'd been part of the team for ages today

Barely any training with his teammates and a performance like that. Don't think he lost an aerial duel.

I like his composure on the ball. It's huge for the team.

Great performance. Hopefully keeps it up.

We told you English hating negative nancies that he was going to be a great signing. Exactly the type of high character player this club desperately needed.

That's a bit premature, very solid player but VVD's streets ahead of him.
Streets ahead

What's up with Caf and hyperboles. Seems like people have lost the ability so assess things without going over the top.

Neville made an excellent point today. People like to point out he cost more than VVD, but if VVD was sold today? He would cost about £150m so its hardly comparable

It felt like he held himself back sometimes. Maybe smart when you're leading the game.

Aye, VVD was (rightfully) seen as going for a fairly ridiculous price at the time - but Liverpool were desperate and just needed to address their defensive problems whatever way they possibly could. But in retrospect he's been much better than anyone could've expected him to be.

But I'm still not really arsed about what we've forked out for Maguire. Even if he's not an £80m player the impact of someone who's just consistently solid at the back for us over the course of a season would be invaluable. Doesn't even necessarily need to be spectacular to be a very good signing in that regard.

Solid debut. He'll have to establish communication with Shaw as Shaw gets sucked in but at least Harry tales up good positions to cut out the inevitable crosses

If you adjust it for inflation, Lindelof plus Bailly cost about £80m.

Harry Maguire on his own costs £80m.

The first option contains two gambles and a pair who will likely take a year or two to adapt to the PL, if ever. The second option is nailed on to be top class from the very first game.

The £80m we spent on Maguire was the premium you pay for certainty. I don't mind gambles in the transfer market, but sometimes you have to go a different route if you're under pressure as a club to take a step up in a particular area of the pitch.

He wa imperious today. I've never seen a CB pairing at United so comfortable on the ball. In fact, I'd be fairly confident saying it's the best ball-playing centreback partnership in Man Utd history.

He’s basically Gary Pallister with Steve Bruce’s head.
