Harry Kane | "I will be staying at Tottenham this summer and will be 100% focused on helping the team achieve success."

why?

its fairly obvious, even ignoring today’s reports (which say he wants to stay in the PL) that he would prefer to stay in the PL.

Who can afford him? City, Chelsea and us.

Even if he wanted to go to Spain, neither Real or Barca have the money.

PSG are one of the few teams who have 2 top strikers. obviously Juventus can’t afford him. Bayern have Lewandowski, he’s of on age he could be replaced, but more likely to go for Haaland next year.

so how many clubs do you think are ahead of United?

Yeah and an added factor is, can anyone imagine Kane trying to speak French, Spanish or Italian?

Kane wants to win the biggest prizes. Unfortunately that rules us out. Unless we have 300m to spend this summer, even then we'd be just closing the gap and not guaranteed to be winning the league or CL.

Let's hope he goes abroad.

This has got a move to City written all over it. Will be abit like when Utd came so close to signing Shearer but he decided to go to Newcastle. Kane at City will help them win a CL trophy or two.

Cavani probably won’t play more than 35 games, with maybe 25 starts.

A Kane/Martial swap - and both Kane and Canavi can easily be accommodated.

I agree that striker is not THE priority. But if this is an opportunity to get a player, and he will fill the position for 3-4 years, then perhaps we can make do elsewhere. If, and clearly a big if, we bought Kane, he wouldn’t be our only signing - and his goals and presence could see us challenging, despite shortcomings elsewhere.

it’s the sort of sighing fergie would go for. Strikers make the difference.
I'm not saying I shouldn't go for him, but if we sign Kane, Cavani's minutes are getting slashed significantly. He's likely only starting in the League and FA Cup with possibly the odd fixture in the league when it's congested. Not sure if he would be anywhere near as effective if he's playing so infrequently and it could rub him the wrong way if he hardly played.

Agree with everything you say though, Kane is too good a player not to explore.

I really hope we won't be wasting our time on this saga unless he really wants to play for united. Levy is gonna make this painful, and if kane is leaning towards city, then it's not worth it.

I don't think anyone would blame him. He's been a nearly man for too long, if we take into account of his immense talent, he should have the titles that match his goal scoring feats.

I don't know. It wouldn't feel the same, him hitching along for the ride to a couple of titles that City would likely have won anyway. I'd imagine he does not care on iota about this sort of thing, and City might actually be the least politically toxic choice for him and the lesser of the three evils for Levy, but, I don't know, wouldn't it be seen differently him winning the first title in 5-6 years for Chelsea or first in 9-10 years for United as opposed winning the 5th title in 6 years for City?

It works both ways. Players shd not sign long term contracts unless they intend to stay long term. I can see his Spurs departure becoming a long drawn out saga very much like Zaha's.
He was foolish to relinquish such control over his career no doubt.

In other news, the sky is blue!

Im sure he would go abroad given issues with his family etc., but can’t see any of the PL CL clubs going in for him.

Hopefully he fancies a move to Dortmund.

Dont think he’ll go abroad, no.

Me neither, why Lingard apparantly wants to leave WH is bonkers. Thats his level (and a very good one..)

I'm not trying to be all pessimistic but I genuinely think if Kane went to City or Chelsea, it doesn't matter if we sign Sancho, Rice & Varane. He's that good. But then again I am really in awe of him so of course I'll be biased!

Rather than strengthen Utd or Chelsea I imagine Levy would rather sell to City who are already top of the pile and will continue to be whether they sign Kane or not.

Don’t think anyone would blame him if he signed for City.

Yeah I'm not saying people would blame him choosing City. I'm just kinda thinking out loud about the three different moves could be potentially perceived. He's earnt the right go wherever he can get his hands all the major trophies.

I think Cavani and Kane can play together. Ole is a Fergie disciple - playing 2 strikers, with Kane dropping deep (as he’s done for both spurs and England) can mean Cavani would get a more than decent amount of games. Not saying that would happen as a standard formation, but could see it happening. Both Kane and Cavani also have history of injuries, and as opposed to spurs if/ when Kane gets a nightlong injury - he wouldn’t be rushed back as we have players capable of playing the role.

Nothing to read here. Levy won’t sell him to a PL club unless it is obscene money. That rules out everyone except Abu Dhabi FC.
They’ll sign him for €35 million*

*Plus a £70 million seller’s fee to Spurs and Levy, £50 million signing on fee to Kane and his agent, a 10 year contract with a base wage of £59k/ week with a breathing bonus of £61k per breath, £100k per goal, £2 million if the goal was scored with a part of his body, a guaranteed place at Manchester Grammar School for his kids, a starting spot at the Elite Development Squad for his sperm cell, £3 million/ year groundsman jobs for his family, a second mansion in Alderley Edge, sponsorship rights for Etihad to use his drawling voice to narrate children's night time audiobook ‘The Camel Who Came To Tea’ and a complimentary Airbus A380 to commute to work in from his home in North London.

Absolute bargain, and well within the confines of the now-obsolete Financial Fair Play.

Bet he wishes he hadn't signed that new contract in 2018. The most likely scenario is that Levy will want a transfer fee so big that he will be at Spurs next season.

Cavani extending his contract, together with Rashford, Martial and Greenwood we have enough firepower to be successful. We need to focus on other much-needed priorities in the team.

I'll be really interested to see if we move for him or not, because I expect Sancho to be our main target this summer. Wonder how this changes things. I can see him going to Real to be honest.
Kane is not that rated outside of England. Don’t get me wrong he’s rated as a good striker, but not £150m then play him every match do everything to accommodate him good. So can’t see him going to Real.

The Abu lot don’t really pay obscene money and refuse to be held to ransom. Eg they pulled out of Maguire, Sanchez and a few others.

My bet. City, if not Halaand, they will sign a number 9 between £30-80m who most didn’t think of as an obvious signing or who many might not have even heard of and he’ll end up being successful... then years later we’ll be on here moaning about scouting and finding hidden gems or rough diamonds.

See what you mean.
Obviously he wouldn’t be too popular if he went to Chelsea, yet in some ways if he signed for them he would be viewed as their no1 player indeed they may even offer him the captaincy. Could be viewed as the missing piece in the puzzle.

If he went to Utd he would be competing with Pogba and Bruno, further more would Rashford, Greenwood, Cavani and Martial be happy playing second fiddle? ....also who would be the penalty taker?

If he goes to City he would be a superstar amongst superstars ....though he would be the penalty taker no arguments!

For him to tell Spurs he wants out, I fear City have already told him they will pay fot him this summer.

City will be in for him or Haaland, depends, they will look to replace Aguero moving forward. Aguero to Spurs to sweeten the deal?

Look at it from Kane's perspective, City are so much closer to winning every competition next year compared to us. We are hoping to put in a title charge next season with some new additions, maybe progress well in the UCL. City are likely setting their expectations to retain the PL, win a UCL etc.

If his sole focus is to get a title/trophy under his belt next year, he's not going to join an "up and coming project", he wants a ready made team. It's going to be City, and we have to grin and bare it.

They can have Martial / Lingard as part of the deal . Get it done
Always baffles me how people think we can just throw unwanted players on clubs

How often do you see a swap deal? It's very rare.

For this to happen, Martial/Lingard would have to want to join Spurs, Spurs would have to want Martial/Lingard, and they'd have to come to an agreement on wages.

We don't need Spurs to take Lingard/Martial. We can sell them to raise funds, and the result is the same for us. Finding a buyer may be difficult for certain players, but it's more realistic than swapping our deadwood for whatever player we fancy and thinking everyone involved will just automatically agree to it.

Hate to say it but City’s chances of winning trophies are much better than ours for at least the next five years. And he knows that too. You could say that Chelsea’s chances are pretty slim too. City or Paris is the place to go for Kane.

That’s the sad reality, Abu Dhabi got the $$ too.

We need a DMF, RWF far, FAR more than a striker now that Cavani is staying, and Greenwood is rediscovering his incredible form. Kane would cost the whole transfer kitty.
He'll be 28, consistently misses large chunks of the season with an ever increasing injury list, and he's clearly already lost a few steps.
Please, someone take Ed's fax machine away.

Ole's first real test.

Another point of view and that’s Pep’s. He’s traditionally not been a fan of static number 9s. Aguero had to adapt a lot to Pep... at Barca, where he had the most success he did it without a number 9. Ok, he had Messi.

But this season with Aguero out, he’s won the league and reached his first post Barca CL final. Maybe Pep won’t feel that a superstar number 9 is suitable for him. He might even turn Torres into a central forward, buy more wingers to improve and a number 9 signed for plan B when a match is going wrong.

Think of the children..... Having Kane will only hinder Greenwood's progress.

I think Ole has shown that he believes in Greenwood through the management of his playing time through his early-season dip in form. Plus another additional year's the Cavani tutorial is only proof that Kane's just not part of the long term plan.

Well Martial needs to sort himself out. Shocking form this season.

I've been backing him up every year, but this year's failure to challenge City is all on him for failing to score.

No doubt he is a top class striker but shouldn't move away from our original plan of CB, RW with a DM too

It’s not a completely bonkers idea, though ... Levy will be desperate

Reading back in this now; enjoyable but mildly confusing thread. Think it means HK to Chelski. They win CL final, ticker tape and balloons. Cue tearful slowmo pensioners, pan to herself as wot manages the women’s team, Roman in bad disguise in the stand; more red eyed sniffles, cue drama music, camera starts going up, up on a crane as ‘Arry in blue flies on a heading from north to west, flightpath being tracked from The Shed...

Death, taxes and Levy selling no one to Chelsea are guarantees in life.

We could offer double what you guys would offer and he would reject it instantly. It’s not about the money in this instance, we are a London rival and he doesn’t want his best players making another London team stronger.

I’m not even sure Kane would join us. He sees Aguero is leaving this summer and conveniently starts pushing harder to leave. Read between the lines.

Sky running with the story that he’s told Spurs he wants to leave.

United, City and Chelsea in talks with his people

I bet he goes to whichever team loses the CL final, + for silly money. Either the Sheikh or Roman will see him as the missing piece to the greatest club trophy on earth and will pay the Levy tax.

I feel like Kane leaving would kill Spurs in terms of them competing and being part of the ‘top six’. I know they haven’t won anything but they’ve been in the conversation in recent years, and Kane has been so important to that.

If he goes I don’t really see what they have. They don’t look any different to Villa without Kane.

If he has to let him go Levy will do everything he can to shift him to a foreign club

But not sure who has the cash to spare?

City looks the most likely destination to me

I don't see any foreign club spending a near record fee on him. Heck I don't see a PL doing it but City still would have some chance. In the end I think Kane has gotten himself stuck and the best he can hope for is Spurs themselves committing to greater ambitions and maybe really spending this summer
