Harry Kane | Bayern Munich player

Not saying we should not sign Kane but the price would have to be reasonable, I suspect Levy will still ask for £100m even though he will be 30 and have 1 year left on his contract, that seems to much I guess I would not feel comfortable if the club paid much over £50m, ok world class player will break all prem records but just not sure.... but then signing him at any cost just because who else is also not a great thing.

I trust ETH's judgement, TBH would love to see Kane in a Utd shirt, but then I guess I am a bit off put by players like Ronaldo, Sanchez etc... who have come too late, with too much money attached

My feelings are the same.

Would love a prime Kane at United. Ronaldo got alot of goals for United but was a determent to the rest of the team.

I have a sneaky feeling, Kane will be the same. I do not feel comfortable for us to spend anything over £50m on him because of his age. People will reference Benzema, Lewan to me but at 30 they were still relatively pacey. Kane will become even slower, his pressing is non existent.

Do we want a player to score goals and not fit the system? Its a No from me.

Shouldn't really come as a surprise to anyone that he wants to renew. Guy is a loser with no serious ambitions beyond personal accolades. He's comfortable where he is and doesn't have the big club mentality.

We need to move on and not make this bloke our annual summer 'chasing shadows' target.

Yeah what a loser not wanting to join a club whose last big trophy was in 2017.

Who said he's a loser for not wanting to join United?

You literally finished your post with "We need to move on and not make this bloke our annual summer 'chasing shadows' target".

And from that you've drawn the conclusion that I think he's a loser for not joining United?

He's a loser for signing his previous long-term deal where he snookered himself and had no escape plan. Levy was never going to let him go anywhere. And he's an even bigger loser now for contemplating a new deal. It would finish off any remaining possibility of joining a big club.

I don't want us to buy him at all because Levy will well and truly rinse us. It's not worth blowing the budget on a 30 year old when we have several other needs too. But on top of that, if he doesn't even want to move, we need to move on immediately. We can't spend yet another summer chasing someone who doesn't want to join us and then panic buy some aging stopgap bum late in the window.

Let him stay, he lacks ambition, and clearly doesn't have the mindset to deal with the pressure of playing for a top club like Manchester United.

Can't argue against this after his first long term contract extension with them.

By that time he was wanted by many and could easily have ended up at City for example and would have won the league but he opted to stay at Tottenham...

If he does extend again it just proves what you said about his mentality..

Yeah if he extends then time to push boat out for Osimhen despite the eye watering sums involved, well once the ownership situation is resolved because until then we don't know how much we have available

TBF it's not like we're winning trophies every season like City. Think if he does eventually leave it'll be to Bayern or somewhere outside of England.
Yes, but with a player like that we're be in a better place for start winning trophies. Especially since with ETH we got a good thing going.

I felt this is what Casemiro felt when joining us, that we are the next best thing going and was happy to join us.

If Casemiro did then Kane could as well.

Luckily Casemiro felt something a lot of our fans dont which is obvious in - we havent won anything since 2017, why would he come - type of posts.

I wonder if we've told him that we aren't interested?

Maybe we've identified some younger players that we'd rather go for?

If we aren't interested, it doesn't really give him many other options. Man City are the only club that would pretty much guarantee him trophies and he's missed the boat to go there now, so maybe he's decided just to try and milk Spurs for as much as he can?

We will be interested. There’s no one close to his level we could possibly acquire.

A key difference is that Casemiro had already won a lot. The reported motivation for him coming here (aside from the financial stuff) was less to win trophies and more a desire for a new challenge.

Whereas Kane doesn't have those CL and La Liga titles already in the bag, so is possibly less interested in a new challenge than simply winning things. Because whatever he wins in the next few years is it for his career. If he went to Bayern for example he would be guaranteed league wins in a way he wouldn't anywhere else, plus however many years trying in the CL. For a man with no major trophies, that might be tempting. Depending on how highly he rates a German league win I guess.

He said in 2021 that he didn’t see himself moving abroad and that the premier league goalscoring record is important to him. I don’t think he’d sacrifice that record for a few Bundesliga titles but could be wrong. It’s why us winning something and comfortably outperforming Spurs this season is so important. We should be in prime position to persuade him we are the best option.

Well he tried to move to Man City so I don’t see why he wouldn’t try move again.

If he doesn’t want to move then he wants to stay loyal (something he forcefully had to do just in the last 2 years) - or he has arguably also seen Ten Hag’s arguably fantastic management in just 6 months + his underdog CL management performances for Ajax.

If he stays he stays; if not he would come here in my opinion.

There is more to life than winning a trophy or two. He is a father and might not want to move his family to a new place.

It’s not a black and white situation.

Next season's CL teams will be Arsenal, city, Spurs and Newcastle. So I can see why he'll just stay. Arsenal is a no-go, city moved on and Newcastle are a couple of seasons away.

Kane staying at Spurs is a no-brainer for him whatsoever, there's no pressure to challenge for anything and he will be handsomely rewarded. It's a bit like Shearer at Newcastle. Count your money and play football with no pressure for the team you support.

I think City were the only club he wanted to join. They were as close to a sure thing that you could get in terms of winning the league so he probably felt it was too good an opportunity to turn down. Not sure he would feel the same about a club like us who are still very much a work in progress and have ownership uncertainty.

But he doesn't play for Arsenal.

I think Weghorst today gave is a glimpse of what Kame would offer us

was having this exact conversation with friends during the game.

kanes hold up play is made for our team. Everything Wout did today, but with a genuine world class goal threat to go with it.

we all agreed however, that blowing an entire summer budget on him when his mobility is clearly in terminal decline is an enormous gamble.

Just wish he was 3 years younger

The main reason I'd sign Kane over other options would be if Utd had a shedload of cash, meaning they could therefore still afford to sign someone like Ferguson as well to be his understudy and eventual successor. It'd also help prevent Kane being run in to the ground when his pace and fitness issues have been a concern. Really Utd will need to sign 2 CFs soon anyway (even this summer), with Weghorst and Martial unlikely to be at the club next season.

Signing a stop-gap like Thuram, Vlahovic or Osimhen might be short-sighted and block the chance of signing someone like Ferguson who could actually develop to be the next big thing.

Are we even interested in this Ferguson guy
