That was his 2nd start - thought he was very impressive. Agreed he is a little raw around the edges but he definitely has what we need.

Very promising from me.

Won't be a 10 long-term, no chance. Maybe at youth level he could play as more of an attacker but at the top level I don't think he will be that productive, at Man United as a 10 you have people complaining about Bruno even though he puts in ridiculous numbers, work-rate and creation. That's the kind of bar for attacking players - it's pretty high. Maybe Hannibal will improve that side but personally I don't think it has been there at club or international level to date to think he can be a 10 at this level.

Most of what we're seeing that is good is energy, combative, physically looking really strong now - doesn't look like a young player anymore in his body. He's a deeper midfield player, probably an 8 because there's more freedom.
absolutely. might be the kind of player that is useful and provides balance in a 3 - but not going to be good enough at any specialist role in centre mid.

thought he was poor in possession tonight overall but he is early in his career so that could improve very quickly as the nerves fade. looked more mature than previous seasons where he was a bit of a red card liability. happy him and pelli have got minutes this week, shame amad has his injury

Did better than I thought he would do, especially with his temperament but I do like that with every foul, he turned it into "theaterics" instead of getting into argument. I guess that is one way to curb his anger.

I liked the energy Hannibal brought. I think he did a better job of what Mason Mount was supposed to do than Mount did himself in the early games. Decent game for a first competitive start.

Not everything came off but a decent game for someone being thrown in such a dysfunctional side.

If ETH really commented that Hannibal played a perfect game then I do worry long term tactically both for the player and the team. It means he's insisting on Casemiro as a single pivot and two midfielders ahead. Hannibal was in really advanced positions, high up in the field and it was okay against Burnley but we ceded too much possession and territory. It's not gonna work against better teams with more attacking prowess. We really need someone to sit deeper and take the ball. The answer is certainly not McTominay.

This is how you take your chance. He should be in the first team mix. Gave everything for the team from minute 1 to 90. Wasn't just a workhorse either, showed glimpses of quality and composure. Hope he keeps getting opportunities and keeps taking them.
Good post.

But he wasn’t asked to play this way v better teams, he was asked to play this way v Burnley?

Highlight of the season for me tonight. Energy and an actual footballer to boot, which is what i thought you needed to play for this club

So happy he's finally had a chance and he's proved to be absolutely ready as many of us knew (though some people here who probably never watched him thought he wouldn't make it in the Prem).

If you look at his out off possession game you'll understand.

Did not put a foot wrong today, a solid and composed performance. A serious prospect.

Good performance from Hannibal tonight. Yeah, a little raw but he’s definitely got magic in his shoes. A promising 90 mins from the lad.

Didn't look out of place. Solid performance, he lost the ball twice on the edge of the area when unbeknownst to him the play had stopped for offside, can't think of anything else he did wrong.

Every time I’ve watched him I’ve been impressed, he can be a bit petulant at times but I see no reason he can’t make it in our team, he show’s determination and has quality to back it up, I’m happy ETH is giving him a chance

I’m a big believer, although I do think he could have used the ball better on a few occasions. Would like to see him a little deeper.
Fgs Rozay you’ve been one of his biggest supporters for weeks, after a good performance you can’t start bloody saying he should be doing stuff better, he had a good performance, enjoy it man!

Hannibal player with a lot of restraint and I’ve been saying the day he starts 4 to 5 games ETH will never be able to get him out of the team. E is much much better on the ball and press resistant than he showed today and I always said he’s a better midfielder than Mount. Hannibal, Amad and Kobbie Mainoo will be starters before this season is over.

Big statement!

My issue isn't with the performance, of which I think Hannibal did well and offered some much needed legs and bite. It's just I think his talent on the ball in terms of ball progression (with his dribbling and ball carrying in short spaces) and short passing is being negated further up the pitch if ETH asked him to perform the role of 'hard working 10'.

Anyways it's early days and I'm definitely reading a lot into it. Hopefully he'll feature more as I've always been excited to see him play.

Is it not a concern that he only had 23 passes in the whole game? I thought the game passed him by for long parts. Finished the game strongly though and never stopped running

Might not be popular here, but my guess is he'll end up mid-table Prem player as his energy and pressing are good but I haven't seen enough from him to think he suits a high possession. Sort of looks like the kind of player Hodgson has done well with at Palace or Silva has used well at Fulham to keep them defensively solid and surround their more talented players.

More than weeks mate, but you have to try and say what you see, otherwise people won’t respect what you have to say on other players/topics. He did a lot well, but I think in key moments the pass wasn’t right. It’s not terminal, and I think if he ever gets a real chance in what I think is his best role - he can be one of the PL’s best few midfielders. But you didn’t see all that from him last night.

thought he was good tonight, don't think he'll ever be a starter, but brought energy to the MF that's been sorely lacking this season.

ETH needed him to do a role there and I'd say it worked extremely well. He had 3 out of 4 attacking players working their asses off, Rashford put in more of a shit than usual too. Mejbri persistently blocked the passing lane for the centre backs to midfield and supported Hojlund (it must be agonising deploying the high press and feeling let down by your teammates).

I'm sure in due course he'll be utilised (or discovered) as that ball progressing midfielder, but for tonight we needed him there and he did all you could ask of him.

I just hope he becomes a regular in our first XI from now on. If the team can start developing in the final third we might have the luxury of having no guaranteed starters, i.e. they'll have to work hard if they want to play.

It was just one game. But I liked what I saw from him in it. I would say even better than Mount so far in United shirt?

If Hannibal and Mainoo are starters by the end of the season then there are going to be some big names on big coin that would have become squad players instead of starters so that would be real interesting

Hannibal is damn good. I’m the U21’s he was unplayable and there were fears he’d get seriously injured the way he was getting persistently fouled. He’s similar to DeJong with similar dribbling qualities but that will show in the league when his body fills out more. I don’t think ETH initially rated him that much having never watched him play much but then that wrexham match we went down to 10men and he just took over the game was the first time I heard ETH wanted to keep him.

He entered the game against Brighton and always wanted the ball. He doesn’t waste the ball as you saw today.

Yeah I think the likes of Amad and Mainoo are the clear future of the club as well, a great combination of technique, dribbling and passing ability. Seeing how well some of these scout oriented signings and academy products are looking, I wonder if it was a big mistake for Murtough to sack Lawlor and Bout after all. Impossible to say without knowing the full details but before the sack their team identified some serious talent, Bellingham, Enzo, Alvarez and Caicedo to name a few.

It wasn't Bout and Lawlor because they were leading the recruitment at first team level. It was the head of youth recruitment David Harrison that oversaw the recruitment at youth level since 2016/17. Currently it's Luke Federenko who is in charge of recruitment at youth level, with Harrison given a new role where he's overseeing the recruitment of emerging talents in Europe.

Harrison was poached from Man City and he structured their youth recruitment structure which he led.

I never get high hopes for youth teamers becoming stars these days, so I'd consider it a big win if he could just be a good, versatile squad player that can actually pass.

So weird watching him fight for every blade of grass and running around like maniac and then seeing Mctominay casually strolling with no cares in the world...

If he was Scottish and a midfielder and his name rhymed with Spot McNominee he would be accused of hiding from the ball.

34 touches and he's been praised? (Only 3 out of the other 21 players starters had less touches. And one of those came off injured after 20 minutes)

OK.

The kid completely showed your boy up, confirming what a passenger he is. Though wouldnt be hard, admittedly

"My boy"?

So, you aren't a United fan?

Both are "My boys", for your information. We aren't all in separate camps of supporting certain players over others.

Whomever wears the Manchester shirt, I'll give my unwavering support.

But you continue with the mob mentality. Have at it.

You probably should be staying quiet.
