Yeah, it´s sport for tough man.

I will watch some games if there is Polsat Sport in the hotel I booked in Krynica. Poles are not going to be anywhere near top 3, I guess, still worth a look.

Are there no danes on this forum? Would be nice to be able to rip into them a bit when we beat them later this evening :D

I did play Handball at school and I used to love it more than football in one aspect only, scaring the crap out of the keeper.

Handball is such a class sport. I love it, both playing and watching.

Agreed shame that we "suck" after the generation shift.

Damn, that was close, lucky danish feckers. But a draw is sufficient considering we were missing one of the best players in the world, if not the best.

May I ask who is it ?

 Ólafur Stefánsson, played for Magdeburg in Germany and now plays for Ciudad Real in spain, has been voted the best player in germany and has been in the world team a few times. Won trophies for all his clubs. Brilliant player.

Giggsy_PO, what country are you from? Is your country competing?

I am from Slovakia. We are in the group of dead...(we will lose all matches:( )... But for us it is a big success to only qualify for such an event.

Btw. I saw Ólafur Stefánsson here, when Cuidad Real was playing Champions League here. Top player, but I wouldn´t say one of the best, now. Maybe a few years ago. But that is just my opinion.

Now I would say it is between Ivano Balič and Iker Romero.

too bad we didn't manage to nick it in the end against the Danes but at least we're safely through to the 2nd stage

You´ll be back at the top if 2-4 year. You won the U21 WC 2? years ago and all... But do you have any quality goalkeeper coming through? Genzel and the other cnut(svnsson?) is pretty old arent they.

Also, handball is another sport where Finland are utter shite. Which is nice.

VR, what sports are you good at? Booball or whatever it's called and javelin throw?

Excellent:lol:

To be fair, ice hockey is a decent enough sport, though I don't follow it.

Handball is just pathetic.

Handball is a stange sport in Finland cos its only the swedish speaking finns who like it/play it.

Same with "boboll", finnish speaking finns luuuuuurve it, I hate it and dont get the point of the game.

We´re also good at football. :p

There's really nothing pathetic about handball. It's a real proper sport, for tough feckers.

Giggsy_PO, I feel for you about the group of death :P it's no joke going against these teams.

About Ólafur, I agree he was probably better a few years ago in his time at Magdeburg but he's still a magnificent player. I haven't followed his progress at Ciudad as much but he really raised their game when he went there.

The fecking serbs really tried to hammer him down, and in the end succeeded by bruising three of his ribs with a blatant elbow into his side. He couldn't play against the Danes because of it.

We're seeing some players really holding their own now though, it's almost been a one man team in the past few years but now Snorri Steinn and Guðjón Valur are starting to shine and Arnór Atlason is showing a lot of promise.

Hope we can beat the russians to get into the final four, I doubt we can put Croatia down though.

I also remember one player from Iceland. His name was Dagur Sigurdsson. I saw him when he played for A1 Bregenz. Was he any good before ?

He was really good, him and Ólafur came from the same side here in iceland, but Dagur went to some lower-level leagues after playing in germany so he could be a player/coach and it seriously brought down his game. He recently retired from the national team.

It's like football, but you use your hands. instead of your feet.

What's the point in any sport?

For me, a sport has to be physically challenging and require skill. In many ways, handball requires more of both than football for instance. Throwing a ball from the floor under someone's arm at 88 km/h isn't something your grandmother is capable of.

It's tactical, athletic, it's fast-paced (not like the NBA where there's a commercial break every 2 minutes) and you have to be pretty fecking hard to play it (a lot more physical contact allowed than in football for instance). If you lose the ball in offense, you have to react quickly or you'll get punished hard on the break. The goalie is tested again and again throughout the match, nobody is a spectator in handball.

It's also fun to watch, at least the national competitions, players really put their all into it.

Since we're on the topic of "point" in sports, what's the point in cricket? Because I can't for the life of me understand how someone can say handball is pointless when they follow cricket (which you seem to do)

Btw wancolos, it seems our nations will meet in the next stage :) will be a tough match for us.

Cricket is a wonderful sport. But it's tactically extremely complex and difficult to explain to an outsider for that reason.

People think it's boring because "nothing happens" but it is similar to football in that respect. The game can meander along until sudden moments of action.

The final sessions of the second, third and fifth tests this summer were as tense as I have ever felt watching sport.
