Just watched the first episode and...ITS GOOD!!! With all the re writes its finally clawed its way out of development hell. And the result, with the first episode anyway, is really fecking good. Action, intrigue, decent characters, doesnt shy away from the ultra violence either. Holy shit, they even show teens getting legs and stuff blown off before getting it worse. Pablo "pornstache" Schreiber does a good job as Master Chief. He does take his helmet off which felt weird. Really weird. But apart from that, good.

Down sides are few. If I had to be critical, Id have to point to the FPS moments. Not as bad as when Doom did its FPS section, but its not great. Thankfully though, they are very short and only a couple of moments. It doesnt follow the games at all. Lots of familiar stuff, but its a totally new story line. So, if youre a die hard halo purist you might be put off.

One of the things I saw the internet was worried it was going to be "woke" and have Master Chief being a side character in his own show. Happy to report this is not the case. MC is the main character, but there are other main characters. So its not getting the star trek treatment. MC isnt some kind of space jesus and theres no endless angry crying. Well, not yet anyway. It is only one episode. Still plenty of time to turn to shit I guess. But if it continues like this, I have high hopes its going to be fun.

A solid 8 out of 10. What do you lot think? An die hard halo fans love/hate it?

Just saw it dropped on Paramount plus. I'm planning on watching it tonight. It does look very promising and visually arresting. Hope it's not another Defiance. I played the heck out of Halo years ago.

Halfway through the first episode and it's not half bad. It goes right into the action and the meat of the storyline begins taking prominence halfway through.

The acting is predictably sub par in places but it remains engaging and the visual effects are stunning at times. I'd say there's promise in this especially if you go in with tempered expectations

I hate that they showed his face as it was just unnecessary. Other than that it was pretty good. Way more graphic than I was expecting.

Wasn’t this originally supposed to be a movie, written by Alex Garland no less? I’m guessing that got stuck in development hell.

Heres a brief history of what went wrong there: https://screenrant.com/halo-movie-updates-not-happening-why/

In short, it was Mircosoft. In the long, it was Microsoft.

Neil Blomkamp was set to direct. It never happened, but he did shoot a short low budget halo film that gives you an idea of what it would have looked like had he made the movie way back when.

The reviews its getting seem middling right now, but will give it a try, but only once all the episodes drop.

But the important matter is why does this thread have a full stop at the end :wenger:

Not too bad. As someone who only played the original Halo I am completely lost as to the plot and characters (other than MC). Is this the story from the games?

Mixed bag so far, some bits look great, others very cheap. Story line is ok, will see how it goes.

Considering he’s made some at least one legitimately excellent movie it’s weird the way Blonkamp seems to be always scratching around making shorts and trying to pitch for more work.

I thought Chappie was ok!
It was OK but his films did seem to be following a steep downward trend after District 9. Remember him being linked with Alien for a while and, seemingly, having some decent ideas but he's probably considered a risk now, with his films being fairly expensive, concept-y sci-fi.

Why take a gamble when there's old films to be remade and comic books to adapt?!

Ha! Yeah. I guess so. Another reason to loathe MCU.

I felt the ending to the pilot was very strong and was hoping they dropped at least three episodes at once! It's very promising

I thought the first episode was OK but it lacked the sound of 13 years old claiming to have fecked my mum and calling me racist things.

2nd episode still building up to obvious war event. It creates good tension, that is if payoff will be worth it, of course.

Willing to give it a chance for few more episodes. Halsey and Chief are not that bad of a cast. Cortana's entrance will probably make it even better for hardcore fans.

Kwan's character so far no bigger meaning than revenge...

2nd episode not too bad. I did get a kick out of the "Graphic Violence and Course Language" warning for an episode with basically neither but no nudity flag. Not complaining at all, just found it funny.

I'm sold.

How can I watch this in the UK?
Isn't like Paramount Plus already in UK since February ?

Or f*ck it, there's a topic on the Caf where people express full disgust of links... not to confuse it with Twitter thread.

Episode 3 was brilliant. The introduction or Corana was handled well. Hate that its a weekly release format

Episode 4 wasnt too bad. The kwan sub plot is really dragging the show down. I couldnt give less of a crap about her or her sub plot. The character is bad, and the story they are having her run down is meh. Id rather this time was spent on Master Chief or Silver team. Watching Kai going through the same thing as chief, with popping out her chip and seeing the world with fresh emotion and fan girling over the covenant weapons was a cool. It just needs to get rid of Kwan and Ill be happy.

I agree Kwan is so boring. I don't care even a little bit about her and her stuff. They aren't making it interesting at all.

The action scenes in this are so good I just wish he'd stop taking his damn helmet off. The show would be so much better if they kept him helmeted and voiced by Steve Downes.

I dont mind the voice, but the taking the helmet off is getting so stupid it’s actually funny. And they actually made it worse with the inside helmet shots. We can tell from his actions what’s going on, we dont to see his face to understand.

Kwan was once again utterly pointless. But once the action started it was pretty bad ass. Especially seeing the grunts and jackals finally.

More action, less exposition and no Kwan and this could be an awesome show.

He made a point in episode 1 about how tough the Mjornir armour is so why the hell does he keep exposing his fleshy head?! The voice isn't terrible, but his voice from the games is so iconic. If they had just not had him remove his helmet they could have got Steve Downes to voice him and it would have been perfect. Because they absolutely nailed the look of Chief, it's just a pity he doesn't sound like him.

New episode was meh. No Kwan story line so that's a plus, but just watching a few mood people walk around and talk for 45 minutes is boring. I think it is safe to say most of us are coming for the action scenes and the most action in this episode was Master Chief getting a little fresh with the freaky alien worm pied piper.

Another very average episode. No idea why they would devote a full episode to Kwan, I just don't care about that arc. At least it had some action in this one though.

Well, it was half a good episode. Moved the story along, and Master Cheeks got his end away .

I really loved that Kai took her helmet off and then instantly found out why you don't take your fecking helmet off. Only wish Master Cheeks was there to see it too and get the message. Half decent action and plot moving, but the writing still leaves a lot to be desired. But no Kwan? Amazing. Keep doing that.
