The Premier League are bringing in half time interviews, dressing room coverage and interviews with subbed players from next season.

I took this as them suggesting it. Is it actually happening?

finally. looking forward to “skidder cam” where they go through the dressing room toilets and expose the teams with the worst shit stained toilets. they’ll then be the obligatory vote-in where fans can guess who left the streak.

probably spawn a football fantasy type spin off where you buy players based on their leavings and see who gets the most points.

We already get a lot of "cookie cutter" answers before/after the game, I can't imagine that anything of interest will be said half way through a match by players/coaches, it will also be another thing to try and squeeze in between the ad breaks and the punditry. I think dressing room coverage could be interesting though.

How long before a player who is subbed for playing crap or injured explodes at the interviewer because they don't want them in their face, or some feisty language is picked up in the dressing room? Maybe even someone walking around bollock naked?

Guessing it's advertising driven? Don't go and make a brew or get something to eat at half time, stay watching to see the half time interview and the ads either side of it. Sub interviews sponsored by Coca Cola or whoever.

Edit: Subway are going to end up sponsorsing the subbed interviews aren't they? "Been subbed? Grab a Sub! Substituted player interviews in association with Subway"

There was a game on Sky a few weeks ago where they spoke to one of the subbed players, think it must have been in the Championship. Don't see the point personally.

I do remember half-time interviews used to happen with Sir Alex during CL games on ITV.

I have no interest in this whatsoever, let them focus on being athletes & coaches instead of media personalities...

Imagine having a difficult half against up against an opposing player and you're trying to reset yourself physically & mentally to go again for the second half, then someone pops their head in the dressing room "Gabby Logan is here to ask you some generic questions about how much you struggled in the first half"... just no.

They use to do it in UCL games in the 00s so not a completely new thing.

Football interviews are so pointless. Nothing of interest is said, and on the rare occasion someone shows a bit of emotion and inevitably swears or has a go at a ref, they get fined. Why bother

Why are they so obsessed with turning the PL (and CL for that matter) into the NFL? What's next, halftime shows with Beyoncé?

This thread has taught me that people just want to complain about everything. How is this a problem for anyone?

It's a thread to discuss an idea that's been proposed. Naturally, some will agree and others will disagree with it. What were you expecting, unanimous approval?

They used to do this. I remember Fergie still being interviewed when O’Shea scored about 10 seconds into the second half.

NFL players don't seem to be a big fan of dressing room access, and rightly so. No idea why the PL thinks it's a good idea to adopt something that is already incredibly unpopular with the people directly involved.

No problem with the other two. Interviews are bland and inane anyway, no matter when they're done. Looking forward to more frequent iterations of "We knew it'd be a tough game, it's a difficult place to come, they're a good side, happy with the 3 points, take each game as it comes, enjoying my football, get it in the mixer, jumpers for goalposts"

I'll remind people that these aren't new

was just going to mention this. Fergie in the tunnel on cl nights before heading back out is hugely nostalgic.

Also, fergie saying here that weve to keep going for that 3rd goal - knowing that the 2-2 would send us through, and that wed just pulled it back fro 2 nil down against one of europes best. What a guy, lived for winning

Erm nah. I'd rather them use the 15 minutes to do something useful thanks.

God, can the PL not focus on fixing their sh* refereeing and VAR system before implementing this kind of rubbish.

Not sure about all of those new elements. But the halftime interview works pretty well in the Danish league.

We also have sideline interviews once or twice during the game with the head coach/manager or assistent coach. It's only the audio that you hear on the television. So you don't miss anything or is bombarded with ads.

I think it works well in the context of the Danish league. The interviews tends to be more about specific moments or situations in the game with a tactical perspective.

Not sure about how it will work in a highly profiled league like the PL though, where every word of everyone is analysed thoroughly.

I used to enjoy SAF’s half time CL interviews, you only got a tidbit but it was a good indication of what to look forward to in the second half. Imagine it would be tedious for every PL game though.

Honestly, I didn’t expect much engagement, and certainly not much negativity. What is the problem?

"Rashy, when you were subbed off it looked you said 'feck sake you bald cnut.' is that correct?"

"What? I asked the lads if they could scooch over a bit."

"Are you sure? Our mouth experts think otherwise."

"No. There was literally no space for me to sit so I asked them to move over."

"Hmm, interesting. Back to Adrian in the studio to talk shite."

Sounds like yet more gimmicks to address / appeal to the ever reducing concentration spans of viewers nowadays.

Always hate it when they interview the manager on the touchline while the games taking place - mostly see that in early rounds of FA Cup when it's a non league / lower league team involved. Feels wrong and very intrusive, though they've obviously Ok'd it beforehand.

Also, in Cricket they've started micing up the players and interviewing them while they're actually on the field playing! That never sits well with me, as they should be full on concentrating on the game - though it's usually in the more gimmicky formats like Twenty20 and The Hundred anyway.

I want hidden cameras and mics in all dressing rooms and they're not allowed to tell any of the players or managers until May.. They can release all the footage at the end of the season.

They can blur out the dongs.
