Hakan Çalhanoğlu - Attacking Midfielder | Leverkusen

Very interesting player who can do great freekicks, but not what we are looking for.

If we look at Leverkusen we should be more interested in
Leno (as replacement of De Gea)
Bellarabi (who can play as a winger, right?)
Kießling (who is "old" and imo not good enough to be our permanent number 9, but could be a good addition to the squad as a striker)

Oh, and the most interesting person at Leverkusen is their coach, Roger Schmidt. He would be on my observation list as well.

Edit: The german papers are not even reporting the rumours yet.

Every time I've watched him, I've loved him. Is he not cup tied for Europe having played against Lazio though?

He's been really good everytime I've watched him and he's only 21. He's also started on the left wing this season and we could definitely use another wide option. I think he will definitely end up as a CM and with Carrick and Schweinsteiger coming to the end of their careers he would be a be overall a very good signing. We still need a striker though!
If Bastian is coming to the end of his career, why did we sign him?

Sign him up. At last we will start scoring from free kicks.

They got through, so why would they sell him after their window has closed. I could understand Lazio shipping players but not them.

That's a question to be asked, honestly.
I like him and I hope he comes good, but last season wasn't promising for him. World Cup might've very well been the last hurrah of his carreer, the last time he has been consistently at his best.

Good player but not what is needed. He's a playmaker style player, a would occupy the same areas as Mata/Herrera/10 and too a lesser extent Rooney (when he wanders down). Great set piece taker and passer, but not a pacey and unlikely to beat his man from what I've seen of him.

I don't think that Leverkusen would sell as the german transfer window is closed already (so they can't replace him), but he would be a good fit to the name of United as he is clearly the turkish version of David Beckham. By far the best freekicks in the Bundesliga. Commentars even say that they consider his freekicks as penalties. :D

And he is still so young. He will play for a topclub in future for sure.

How do people actually rate him? He is eventually the best setpiece taker in the game, but the rest of his game is a bit “meh”. Not bad at all, but also not great. Good passer with great shooting, but he offers little more. Leverkusen uses him to his best but I don´t think that he is good enough for a better team.

That para would describe Beckham would it not?

Beckham was on a different level.
Leverkusen plays insane pressing so everybody has to contribute. Hakan is great for them, because they make the best use out of his strength, while his weaknesses aren´t a big problem. I just don´t think that he overall such a great footballer. A good one, but not a great one. He couldn´t be the playmaker for a top team, so he´d have to play in a Mata-ish kind of role and I am not a big fan of this arrangement. I am open for different opinions about him; I think that it is hard to rate a specialist like him.

I don't think Calhanoglu is anywhere near ready for a top club or a club that wants to be one.
He's decent and looks quite good in Leverkusen's football, but I think he has some improvement to do before he can move to a bigger club.

His Freekicks are really sweet though :drool::drool:

The Kyle Korver of football (some Basketball fan like @Eboue will probably slaughter me for that comparison). Brilliant at one thing (freekicks), probably the best in the world at it right now but totally average at everything else.
Judging from his interviews and the transfer drama when he went to Leverkusen from Hamburg, I also think he might be the dumbest professional right now. Oh yeah and for someone who scores freekick after freekick he's exceptionally shit at penalties
But yeah, no way this transfer is going to happen although it would be quite hilarious as he just had a go at Heu Ming Son for his transfer to Tottenham a couple of days ago.

Do not want, he is a cnut of the highest order. Exactly the type of player who will feck us over witj his agent and who will get in trouble with van Gaal. Talented player and probably the best free kick taker in the world right now, but really not the signing we should throw our money at.

There is still Donis Avdijaj. They let Poldi and Großkreutz look very intelligent...

Only watched him twice and he was lively on both occassions but my Turkish friends keep abusing the Leverkusen coach claiming that his best position is deeper in midfield with protection from an athletic tackling partner.

Leverkusen's coach has done a great job for them and Leverkusen need him more as an AM than as a CM.

Calhanoglu is a very interesting player. Perhaps the best freekick taker in Europe currently?
But I don't see why on earth Leverkusen would sell him. The window is closed in Germany, they'd need a replacement for Calhanoglu, but can't get one.
