Only in terms of G/A. And that too in cumulative terms.

If any of them plays for City / Liverpool you still want us to 'enjoy the ride'? feck that. Hope he scores an own goal to send them out of the CL.
I don't feel the hatred for our rivals that you do I guess. I want us to win every match and watch all our games with passion, but I can also enjoy watching good football played by other teams (also rivals) as long as it's not against us.

So you like seeing City and their players doing well? More of a football fan than a United one then.

Either way this obsession with only numbers is something else. As if nothing else matters at all.

Is it? That you prefer dribblers, maestros or a more complete type of player over a pure goalscorer is fine, but it's obviously your subjective opinion.

I think Muller would have had a greater legacy if he didn't play 2nd fiddle to Der Kaizer most of his career both for Bayern and for West Germany.

Are you telling me that if Haaland scores more goals than Messi/Ronaldo he'll still be in the Benzema, Lewandowski and Suarez tier? You'll find Benzema, Lewandowski and Suarez in that graphic as well. Do you think they stand out in the same way?
We haven't seen a young striker banging in goals at this rate since Pele in the Paulista (regional league in Brazil) back in the 50's, he's crushing records whenever he steps on to a pitch. I don't think you really understand what you see in that graphic, in his statistics or if you watch him play. It's different. It might not be as pretty as Messi's dribbling or Maradona doing his magic, but it's more brutal and effective than pretty much anything I've see on a football pitch.
Their goals are of course one of the main reasons why Messi and Ronaldo are up there too, together with the trophies, but they literally played in superteams that dominated 95% of the games they played for more than a decade each. No one has ever had better support crews on a football pitch than those two. If they had 350 career goals each they wouldn't have been close to any goat discussions. There is more than one way to be a great footballer. I've seen street artists do things with a football that Maradona, Messi and Ronaldinho could only dream of doing.....What makes you a great footballer is the impact you have for your team on the pitch, which of course is why Maradona is considered one of the greatest of all time.

To make it into a goat discussion by the end of his career he'll need to win a lot of trophies, Ballon d'ors and take Norway to the KO stages in a couple of EUROs and WCs as well. It is not easy, but it's definitely not impossible.

If Mbappe goes to Real Madrid soon and continues his trajectory he'll be a Ballon d'or contender most seasons for sure...

I guess we'll know more as time flies by.

If Messi scored HALF the goals of Ronaldo, Messi will still be in contention for greatest ever. THere's simply no way you can get into that conversation if you are a pure goal scorer. However I think Haaland can be one of the greatest 'strikers', which is amazing enough.

It's ofcourse Mbappe.

Haaland just doesn't have the all-round game to be in this conversation.

What I meant was that I don't feel like Haaland is best player in the world material unlike Mbappe - at least for a sustained period. Mbappe may be a player of moments but Haaland is a pure poacher. Ideally there'd be more competition of the complete variety.
He might be a poacher, but he is also very good and unstoppable at what he does. When there is no defenders who could possibly stop him from scoring goals and hattricks after hattricks, people would naturally hyped him up as the best in the world.

Personally I always feel its more fun to have 2 completely different type of players competing with each other.

(ie Messi vs Ronaldo, Ruud vs Henry, Romario vs Baggio, Cruyff vs Beckenbauer)

Mbappe vs Haaland would be interesting competition over next decade.

We need to sort out the ownership quickly and have this battle in Manchester next season.

True for Ronaldo.

Not true for Messi. I'm pretty sure that's more than Maradona has in his entire career and he's still in GOAT discussions.

A pure goal-scorer IMO can't be in the GOAT discussion. For what it's worth, I think Benzema, Suarez and Lewandowski were all better players at their pomp than Haaland is now(he might develop further).

You need to have insane innate talent, and while Haaland is extremely talented, he falls short of the talent Messi had quite clearly.

He's not even more talented than Mbappe and Mbappe falls short of Messi's talent too.

Haaland’s scoring numbers are out of this world, he’s going to destroy that Shearer/Cole record in his first year. Mbappé after 4 years at stacked PSG still hasn’t seriously threatened Ligue 1’s records.

Mbappe is more than a pure scorer though. Both great players in their own right

The record is 44 goals. There isn't a lot of players that have registered that type of numbers and there won't be many that will do it.

I think Haaland would have done it with that PSG. Mbappé's best numbers are still behind Cavani's and Zlatan's..

He may have done it but not as a winger or wide forward. And yet Mbappé's numbers are far better than Cavani's, Mbappé has 191 goals and 93 assists in 238 games while Cavani had 200 goals and 43 assists in 301 games.

A forced rivalry. Mbappe is a final third player but Haaland is a poacher. The former is clearly superior.

Its not even debateable who is the better all round footballer. Haaland is a great goal scorer and will always be such, Mbappe is a great player. One relies on his team, the other can do it on his own. People expecting this to be Messi vs Ronaldo will be very disappointed, the gulf in talent between them is far bigger.

Haaland may still win bdo's etc... purely based on scoring feats but he'll never be what Mbappe is.

Gotta have a new war for the upcoming generation of fans so they can get as many social media clicks and engagements on this focus of individual rivalry in a team sport.

It's very much akin to RvN vs Henry. RvN was a bit underrated because of it, but it was clearly a mismatch of overall impact and talent. Same here.

Ridiculous to use this video as it intentionally skipped on Halaand's best and includes only close range goals.

I don't know what's worse, this video or people responding to this that Mbappe is superior.
I don't think anybody needs the video to come to that conclusion.

You think that video includes Mbappe's best? It's date November 6

Moreover, do you think Haaland is a better player than Mbappe?

They have at least a decade until we can decide who's the better player. You cannot conclusively say Mbappe is better because Haaland has poor couple of months. Halaand's goal scoring at his age is unmatched while Mbappe has more to his game.

I'm not trying to hear any of this babble. When people ask you who do you think is the better player, they're asking you about now - you don't need a decade to make up your mind  that's a ridiculous notion

See the first response quoting the video.
I have, but that's not the point I'm making. That video is clearly edited to make Haaland look bad, but it's not what's helping make the argument. You can just watch both players and come to the conclusion, I feel, even with my own bias aside. Haaland is a better goalscorer, Mbappe is simply a better player. I don't need to wait until the end of their careers to see that and I don't see Haaland closing that gap within the rest of his career. He should just focus on what makes him great, but it's, at times, a job that's going to make him look limited because he's so dependent on others to shine, whereas Mbappe can make things happen on his own and drag others to wins that wouldn't happen without a moment of genius. At least with the CR7 vs Messi (which I also found ridiculous as Messi was clearly more talented), there was more of a similarity in the overall individual impact, but here it's really stretching done by the media to make this a comparison and keep some kind of indiidual rivalry going purely to get engagements from young fans.

Mbappe can make something out of nothing, a game winner. Haaland will score plenty but won't get you out of a hole. Mbappe is obviously the better player.

A ridiculous notion is saying "one is clearly superior" when the other one is just 22 and is a better goal scorer in a massively superior league.

in a way ,Mbappe and Haaland are quite like a Play alike ( look a like )versions of Messi and Ronaldo

Mbappe is a year and 4 months older than Haaland. And it’s not as if we’ve watched Mbappe play at the highest level both in club or international football, right? Also, most people know there’s more to football than just goal scoring, thus most don’t pretend it’s even close when asked “who’s the better player?”

This is literally a copy and paste of the Messi vs Ronaldo argument

They play different positions. Haaland is deployed by his manager to score as many goals as he can and he's doing just that while en route to breaking an all-time PL record at the age of 22. Mbappe's role requires more than just goalscoring and he's currently the best at it.

Tell me again, how is one clearly superior? Can Mbappe play as a pure CF in the PL and match Haaland for numbers?

Aren’t their goal records really close?

Close goal records when one played for dortmund and salzburg and the other for a side that is hugely dominant in its own league. Since haaland went to City i think his goals per game is way higher

Except that Mbappe also played for Monaco and scoring goals for Salzburg is not exactly a big deal
