Group C: Colombia, Ivory Coast, Greece, Japan

But then foriegn food in Japan can be equally hit and miss.
Not really true, French and Italian food are the best in the world outside their home countries in Japan.

As proven by the huge number of Michelin stars...

Try and get a decent tiramisu for your saturday night desert :)

I'm not a big fan of desert, but my overall impression of Japanese desert is that it tends to be very sweet.

Anyway, I might be in Tokyo for the WC final, any idea where'd be a good place to watch the game? 4am in the morning...

How good are these teams? Anyone could go through. Greece seems like specialists in draws (maybe I made that up) and the other three are decent teams. Ivory Coast seem to have some big names but how do they work as a team? Japan go from awful to quite good very quickly in the games I have seen and I know little about Columbia apart from the fact they have played well in the qualifiers and will be more used to the conditions.

Not a group to bet on.

Depends on what you are having I guess. I can't get enough of Mochi and Tsuya, the latter probably being one of my favourite deserts. But I won't continue the off-topic discussion, apologies!

〈Station〉
Shimbashi(新橋),Shibuya(渋谷), Shinjuku(新宿), Ueno(上野)
Maybe you can watch the game at Any Japanese bar(居酒屋) and bar.
Remember this
「テレビあります」
「ワールドカップ放映中」
If you see the word, that means you can watch the game in the bar.
But take care. You don't had better go Kabukicho, Shinjuku East=歌舞伎町, 新宿東口(This place is danger).

I hope Japan wins the group - to me they are tho most exciting 'dark horse' at this WC.

Columbia would probably also do well.

Ivory Cost have good players, but most of them are aging. I think they will under-perform.

Greece will compete for the most boring team at the tournament.

Ivory Coast squad is getting older but they do have some quality younger players too such as Aurier. I think he will have a strong world cup and is on my "short"list of transfer targets :p

Does anyone think Japans ex-pat community in Brazil mite give them a little home support? I read theres somewhere like 5 million Japanese-Brazilians in the country, many of whom arent assimilated into the country as well as they could be. Surely then this would be a chance for them to show both their love for their roots, and their new nations love for football.

Sort of like the support the Dutch recieved from the Afrikaaners in South Africa in 2010. Anyone with any knoelgde of geography or history would have know how much some white South Africans would have loved to support the Dutch (Im sure English South Africans did the same)

Personally if it were me, Id watch it in your hotel room, or accomodation. It will be on domestic tv here. Otherwise you can always rely on the hub, but for the final Im guessing many bars or locations will be showing it, so you could watch it in a more Japanese environment. Lets just hope the broadcaster doesnt cut out half way through the trophy lifting for the 7am news, it happens far too often.

You mean not in your hotel room, right? You'd probably want to do a search of sports bars or English style pubs and check which ones would be open.

Really not dangerous at all.

I don't know about your description about the other teams but I agree with you about Japan.

Honda hasn't been playing well. For Japan a lot will depend on how sharp he'll be on that ever-important match against the Elephants.

Japan is actually secretly hoping we could get support not only from the Japanese-Brazilians but from the other Brazilians as well.

Apparently that's the reason our football association decided to color the away shirt yellow, so that the Brazilians may feel some affinity. :D

We'd have to put up a good attacking fight to gain local sympathy, though.

Martinez has picked Colombia as his dark horse for the tournament and Cuadrado as his player to watch. Sign 'em up.

I normally go to the one in Roppongi, further down the road to Feria, not sure if it'd be open for 4am though.

Japan team watched Ivory Coast video today. Konno says Japan needs to team up to stop Yaya. Well, nothing surprising there.

Mourhino and Maradonna both said, separately, that Colombia and Ivory Coast will get out of this group...

Mourinho tipped England to win the WC whilst we all know how much Maradona knows about the non-playing side of football. :smirk:

From Japan's POV, since we lost to Ivory Coast, I'm hoping IC will win against Colombia so that there'd be some hope left for us...

Standings heading in to the final round of the group stage:

Colombia: Already secured a spot in the top 16. :D

Ivory Coast: Win against Greece will allow them to advance regardless of the other game. :smirk:

Greece: Needs to win against IC and have Japan lose against Colombia. :nono:

Japan: Needs to win against Colombia and have Greece win against IC in a very low scoring game. :wenger: [Edit: See Sarni's correction below.]

Things are looking bad for Japan at the moment. Not only do they rely on a win themselves, but also for Greece to win theirs against IC which also chases an advance into the ro16.
Not impossible for a Japanese advancement, but I'd say that my bet will be COL and Greece since those pesky Hellenics always seem to just barely make it when it matters most...

If I was a neutral I'd bet on IC to be the other team to advance.

Japan have no chance but they don't need Greece to win. As long as they beat Colombia by two clear goals they are through if Ivory Coast don't win. Japan are awful though.

Sure thing. I expected greater things from this side than what they have shown in this wc. Especially in a (relatively) weak group. However, many "great" teams have failed in this wc and played well below par.

But all in all not too unexpected resoult in this group. Col. were expected to go through and Greece is, as always a difficult oponent, while not the most threatening forward.

CIV has been (imo) one of the weaker African teams (The weakest?) And that only shows how poor Japan have performed, unless they can turn things around in this last game I'd say it has been a disastrous WC for them.

Under these circumstances they should have done better. They were ahead in Ivory Coast game and played against 10-men Greece who have been below par the whole tournament for 60 minutes. To have 1 point after two games is inexcusable, the only reason why I give them a chance against Colombia is because Colombia might not care. Full strength Colombia with something to play for would blow them away.

Might very well be, but on the other hand, a full strenght COL with something to gain could be the kind of oposition Japan would do well against. Thus far I haven't seen they play well when they are the "fav's" as they had to be considered just that in their previous games (Lead vs. an underachieving African team and be one man up vs. one of the more defensive minded, slow paced teams). I think they might have a chance vs col, but on the other hand I have a feeling that Japan is out of the cup already.

I just have a feeling it will be Greece to proceed in the cup, but this is a very open contest.

Won't be surprised if Greece nick a 1-0 against Ivory Coast. Would be ridiculous though.

Oh, right. Thanks for the correction. Yes sadly they are awful.

Based on their current form, Japan are going out tonight... But based on their standard form, Colombia is by no means a team that's impossible to beat. I'd say the game would be 60/40 in favor of Colombia if Japan was in their standard form.

I feel that anything can happen tonight. It's completely random who will follow Colombia out to the knockout stages. Greece can be incredibly hard to play against, so they might get a sneaky 1-0 win and go through. Japan can definitely beat Colombia, but that is not enough if Ivory Coast beats Greece. Even a draw might be good enough for Ivory Coast.

I'm really excited for these two games.
