Griezmann back to Atlético? \ Signs for A.Madrid

Imagine if they somehow got the De Jong paperwork done, and end up signing him when they didn’t need to. That’ll help things.

I've watched Griezmann quite a few times, and for the life of me I can't figure out what he's supposed to excel at, or why he ever became so highly rated. He's so often anonymous, ineffective and just so very meh, whether he's playing for France or Barcelona. Am I the only one who just can't see his special qualities?

I get what you're saying but if you look at his contributions in 2016 you surely have to recognise something special? Best player in the CL finalists, best player in the World Cup winners, while being the creative lynchpin in both teams ahead of a midfield that focused more on destruction than creation.

There's hardly any players in the last decade that have excelled in that setup in the way he has. You need serious discipline to play in a Simeone team, and you need real tactical nous to excel in both competitions with completely different supporting casts. The things that Griezmann is really good at aren't that flashy but they are incredibly valuable in that environment. His best quality is just finding pockets of spaces like Ozil, and he does that while providing clinical finishing and leading from the front defensively.

It’s the fault of the transfer registration website according to Sky.
Whatever you say Barca

The funniest part about this is he has to knuckle down at Barca for another year when everyone knows that he doesn't want to be there, the manager doesn't want him there and the fans can't stand him. What a terrible fall from grace for both player and club.

He’s signing for Atletico mate.

I've been saying it for years too. He's an average player with decent contortions on his body as he makes a pass. Looks stylish and artsy as he curves himself into a lithe pose and plays a pass. Surpasses the 100 million pound eye test that.

This is a great move by Barcelona, even though they lost money on it. They let go of his salary, he's been terrible even post-Messi, but I suspect he will be much better at Atletico and might even haunt Barcelona in the future.

Maybe he will win a league title now

Great deal for Barça...

Griezmann is 30, never worked here, never had to come, we get 40M in transfer fee and we save 40M in salaries this year and even more the next ones.

You bought him at 120M and on a ridiculous salary and had him for 2 years while both RM and AM took turns to win the league title and you didn't get any closer to the CL title.

Now you're giving him back to Atletico for 40M with them not having to pay that fee for another 2 years (I'm hearing 1 year + option for another loan year?) while his salary partially contributed to Messi leaving.

Hey, I personally prefer Barca over the other two teams, but I can't possibly see that as a great deal no matter how much tint I try to apply on my glasses.

He's clearly saying its a great deal to get him out instead of keeping him around right now.. terrible signing.. right call to let him go.

Barca going into the season with a front 3 of Brathwaite - De Jong - Depay is just weird .. Fati will return.. Coutinho.. maybe.. Aguero and Dembele can barely play.
yet they are almost certain to quality for the CL..

The revenues wont take that much of a hit.. they wont turn into an Arsenal.. La liga just doesnt have that many teams behind the big ones ready to take their spots.

And to think 10 years ago they were the best team on the planet by some distance, arguably the best ever.

Thank god we are a pretty well run club.
Are we? Barely winming anything since SAF's retirement whilst spending a disgusting amount of money doesnt scream well run to me.

Failing managers, hefty contracts to average and old players, managers succeeding managers with completely different playing styles...

I think the club knows how to generate revenue as good as any club mainly and we don't spend beyond our means, which is pretty decent I guess.

Criminal tbh. But since their top 4 is almost guaranteed, they will be fine in the long term. They will need a galactico summer to properly rebuild as right now they dont seem to be an attractive option for upcoming talents. I dont think players like Haaland will be interested in them next summer as they dont offer much chance of a la liga or cl title.

Idiot of a player, no need to go to Barcelona. Could have been a real legend at athletico. Back now having flopped at Barcelona unsurprisingly. Will probably help atletico retain the title.

Are we really? I agree though a lot of mistakes have been rectified in recent times. Barca signing Luuk de jong reminded me of us signing Ighalo on loan.

who cares what we paid? we can't change the past.

today, getting 40M for a player that didn't work in the team, who is 30 and who is in ridiculous wages (40 this year, but it would increase up to 50) is a great deal. keeping him would be way worse.

1 year loan (barça pays 0 salary) with mandatory signing next year for 40M. we couldn't use the money due to salary cap anyway so it does not matter.
messi leaving was a necessity too, he was in 120M per year... we saved 160M in their salaries this year. this is crazy. we were not competitive with them anyway. messi should have left the previous year.

Ighalo wasn't signed as a backup to Braithwaite though. We had decent options, Barças attack is no where compared to ours when we signed Ighalo. Besides he barely played and He Jong will play quite a bit. Barça should have let Messi go last year, this is the worst Barça attack I've seen since the 80s. From Figo, Rivaldo, Kluivert to Ronaldo, to Saviola, to Ronaldinho, to Eto'o to Henry to Guily to Messi. Now they have Depay, De Jong, Braithwaite, Fati, Dembele and Aguero. Poor poor planning. We could give them our backup front three and still have a better attack then they do.

Racist, egoistical, cringy and mellodramatic fortnite player. I dont think a human being can get any worse in this modern age.

40m euros. That has to be one of the worst deals ever, him going to Barca that is. Up there with Sanchez?

At least we didn't pay €135m on Sanchez, actually we didn't even pay a damn fee.

A fully fit Fati, Depay and Agüero is not so bad is it? Then you have De Jong who on his day scores goals, I think they'll be fine. They've still got good Midfielders that can create a hat full of chances for them attack, their midfield would control most La Liga games.

Good for Barcelona. He has apparently been shit even after Messi left and is on huge wages. Poor signing but letting him go is a positive for them,

Pedri is amazing and so is Frenkkie De Jong and with Busquets it's a good midfield but against better sides that 3 will be bullied. Quote me on this, fully fit Fati Depay and Aguero is still not a Top3 attack in La Liga. Atletico Real and Seville have better attacks. They'll struggle to challenge if I'm being honest. Get top 4 and maybe The Copa Del Rey and it's a great season for them.
