Greenwood or Rashford? Who starts the final?

Rashford can set up Cavani more than Greenwood even from the right.

Start with Rashford and bring Greenwood on when we need a goal.

I'm happy with either Rashford or Greenwood starting, and the other coming off the bench. I just hope we get to the final with everyone fit and Ole gets to make that choice.

Rashford is a very good player from the left, a good player from the right. In a normal game, I'd probably prefer Greenwood from the right as I think he offers more cutting in on his stronger foot. But, as it's a final, I think I'd prefer Rashford as the more senior player to start and use Greenwood off the bench.

Just so long as they're all fit and available, and the same for Maguire, Shaw and AWB in defence, then that's the main thing.

While I agree the statistics don't lie, I think alot of the fans on here are basing their opinions on recent form and overall team performance.

If we went solely on statistics, VDB and Mata have over 0.5 Goals/Assists per 90, and ranked in our top 5 players for attacking output. But nobody is putting an argument for either of these to start.

While Rashford is a good player who had a very good first half to the season; he has been poor and inconsistent in 2021. And our team, at present, looks and performs best with a front 3 of Pogba/Cavani/Greenwood.

Based on 2021, what do you think our best front 3 is?

In 2021
Rashford - 6 goals + 9 assists in 2128 mins - 141 mins per G+A
Greenwood - 8 goals + 3 assists in 1949 mins - 177 mins per G+A
Cavani - 11 goals + 3 assists in 1263 mins - 90 mins per G+A
Bruno - 13 goals + 9 assists in 2504 mins - 113 mins per G+A
Pogba - 4 goals + 6 assists in 1503 mins - 150 mins per G+A
Martial - 3 goals + 1 assist in 1225 mins - 306 mins per G+A

We have good options, so should have at least 1 match winner from the bench. As a right winger Greenwood should always play as first choice.

Love Rashford but it's not even close. Greenwood's form is far superior and he's a much better option from the right.

People are scared of this, but Rashford is probably not going to be some top 10 player in the world or something like that. He will be a good wide player who can score goals, but people are scared to admit this because he's a homegrown product that we are pushing through and we want him to shine as much as he possible can. I see Rashford ( even though he's better) like Joe Cole at Chelsea. If Chelsea were as intense as we are about having a young english player that has quality, they would not have been anywhere near as good in attack. Rashford isn't Figo, Ronaldo, Salah, Rivaldo, Ribery or Hazard where he's the star of the team so can demand no competition and a spot in his favourite position. He's like any other talented winger like Sane, Gnabry, Sterling, Mahrez. He can be really good in some games, can have great form and can have terrible form. We should go ahead and sign Grealish or Sancho to compete with him. If he proves to be better than either and play more games, that's fine. If he doesn't that also fine. Even Scholes and Giggs weren't immune to competiton within the team. Rashford isn't consistent or great enough at this time to demand consistent playing time.

At the same age Salah scored 19 goals in 41 games for Roma to even think when Liverpool signed him people thought he was going to be as good as he is now, I am all for not hyping players up to a degree but the nonsense being spoke on here is madness sometimes

We've played them 4 times and all have ended 0-0. That's uninspiring.

You could make a case for both players to start but I'm happy regardless of which one of them who starts as they are both quality players and both suit Pogba and Cavani. Rashford will though as he is a big game player.

This is my take too. I'll add that I hope Martial can get a few minutes beforehand too because I'd love to have him on the bench too. Would be nice to have our best players available.

Well, Ole seems to think Pogba is offering more than Rashford from the left these past few weeks.

I suspect the front 3 in the final will be Pogba Cavani Rashford and I'm fine with it.

Though it isn't crazy to say Greenwood is better on the right as it comes more naturally to him than Rashford.

Rashfords goal and assist output are predominantly from the left. From the right things change.

Pogba helps us control the games in other ways which is probably one reason Ole likes him there

Genuinely I think you have Rashford in there, even when carrying knocks he has been our 3rd best g/a in 2021.

Anyways back to the game we are talking about I think Pogba and Mctominay could play Central and work with Greenwood and Rashford in their best position, probably a bit harsh on Fred but I don't see why we'd need Mcfred against Villareal to be honest.

i think Ole would opt to start Rashford on the right but i won't be shocked if Greenwood due to his current form gets the nod ahead of Rashford.

Although Rashford is limited on the right, he has moments and is a threat

I will choose Mason 100%, esp. when we are talking about the rw spot.

Should be Greenwood, probably will be Rashford.

Not talking about age here, I'm taking about consistent performances. Has Rashford on a PFA player of the year award? Until he's at that level, he shouldn't be given special treatment.

I’d probably say Greenwood at the moment and especially if Rashford is carrying injuries that he needs surgery for.

Rashford is a big game player so I would start them both. On current form McTominay should be on the bench and Pogba would have to be a regular midfielder.

I dont think it is going to matter. I honestly dont think Villarreal can match up with you on their best day.

Ole will start Rashy, but Greenwood has to start in my opinion. He is in better form, more of a team player, deadly finisher and a better football brain. I think Rashford has been unfortunate this season and has not been able to move forward. The boy needs a long break away from football (few months), he has been overplayed for years and in the last 14 to 15 months, carrying injuries and not been able to fully recover. His potential is devastating, sometimes we forget he is not even 25 yet but carries the weight of the club on his shoulders.

Ultimately we need to find a way to play Rashford and Pogba. Changing up the midlfield in such a way as we can have Pogba in a "freer" left-sided role perhaps.. But we would need a seriously good DM for that.

Right now if we are set on playing Pogba on the left wing, we have to play Greenwood on the right. Rashford just doesn't look the same on the right, a waste of a selection.

Greenwood has to start (if fit). He on form at the moment and scoring. As much as I like Rashford, he has a habit of losing balls and poor attempts on opposition goal. I still feel he's not full fit or is metally distracted. As much as I hate to say this, he should be a sub but should come on later.

There's more chance of Greenwood starting ahead of Cavani than Rashford.

If he's fit, Rashford is the second name on the team sheet after Harry

May be 3rd after Bruno. But Ole always trust Rashford, and Greenwood is better as impact sub anyway.

If anyone thinks even for a minute, that Marcus Rashford isn't starting the final, they should get professional help immediately, because they aren't living in reality.

If he's even halfway fit, he plays.
Don’t get why he’s so underrated by some of our fan base. He’s one of the most highly rated under 24 y/o forwards in world football.

He's extremely frustrating with his decision making at times, but along with AWB, Maguire if fit, and Bruno, he's one of the 4 must start players on the team.

Rashford is a brilliant player, Greenwood is a brilliant u21 player. There's a big difference there. Greenwood is perfect off the bench. Rashford whenever he had time to get fit has shown his best form, but has struggled for fitness. Hopefully he gets wrapped up for a few weeks now to get fully ready.

Has to be Rashford. His pace is a key factor here as we may face a low block and any chance to counter attack has to be maximized.

The only thing missing from Rashford's game right now is his decision making when he has a lot of time on his hand. When he has to make a split second decision he usually gets it right. Still, currently he is a better player than Greenwood, and it's coming from someone who believes Greenwood will one day become one of the best forwards in the world.

Rashford is a much better player than Greenwood at the moment. Rashford's pace hurts opposing defences. Easy decision to make.

I think I'd start really attacking and drop one of Fred or McTominay, in order to get Rashford, Cavani and Greenwood all in their best positions. Hopefully Martial is fit enough to come off the bench by then so we still have a decent attacking option.

I think Ole will go with the tried and tested Pogba left, Rashford right and McFred in midfield though. In fact it's probably the easiest line up predictor of the entire season

Form can go and come I get that, but effort is non negotiable. This guy jogs around like he's playing walking football with some old dudes.
He's selfish because he will only run when he thinks he might get on the end of a pass to score

He's lazy and always want basaka double teamed.

For a fast player he slows the game down with too many drag backs and feints.

When was the last time he run at a full back? I don't even remember.

Greenwood should play but Ole won't have the bottle to do so

Why not both? Pogba can play in midfield alongside Fred or McTominay.

What about Bruno?

Not too bothered which one starts, great attacking option from the bench either way. But can't see Ole sitting Rashy.

Rashford should start only if he is playing on the left. But, Ole is going to start him even though Greenwood is in better form and the better player on the right. To that end, hopefully after the Liverpool game Rashford plays last 2 games off the bench. Still doesn't seem fully fit to me in how off he looks on the pitch.

He's extremely frustrating with his decision making at times, but along with AWB, Maguire if fit, and Bruno, he's one of the 4 must start players on the team.
I agree also most roaming forwards of that age are not the complete players. I look at Rashford and compare him to many of the players that were hyper online last season, 2 of whom are now in the premier league and Rasfhord is several levels above.

We should try Pogba on the right and Rashford on the left in one of the next few matches and see how it goes. Experiment a little.
