Green Day vs. Oasis (vs. Aerosmith and Blur apparently as well)

You utter cretin

I hate it when people go on about how they "know" about music. Something which is based completely on a person's personal taste.

Most people who listen to music as Black Francis once said are "passive music fans" meaning their buying and listening habits are generally governed by whatever they hear on the radio or see on the TV. They don`t tend to search out new music or different sounds. I started a new thread a week or so ago about a Bristol band called feck Buttons who have an incredibly fresh sounding energetic album out at the moment and got no replies whatsoever. People just seem to want to listen to the same old tired names.

And there it is. The bands in question undoubtedly being bands you`ve never heard. You`re like the "film goer" who insists that Shawshank Redemption is the best film ever despite only having seen like 200 movies.

No. I just know a hell of a lot more about music than someone still clinging to Oasis.

Surprise me and tell me you didn`t go and see the Foo Fighters this year. Or better yet list your favourite albums.

Like I said, Oasis did make a couple of decent albums back in the early 90s. But that`s a long time ago and their more recent output has been very patchy. Radiohead will never scale the heights of OK Computer again but 2007`s In Rainbows is up there with their best work.

I do find it difficult to believe that anyone who has an Oasis album as their favourite can have a really wide knowledge or understanding of music. Why? Simply because they`d have found lots of better albums years ago if they did.

And the award for the most pretentious, wannabe music journo goes to...............

Who are 7club7 :D

S Club 7 > feck Buttons

I fecking hate people like you. Just because Brad prefers Oasis over you beloved Radiohead it doesn't mean he doesn't have a wide knowledge of music. I've listened to OK Computer and it is one of the most depressing albums you could ever listen to, give me an Oasis album anyday. (Of course, that is just my opinion on it)

You say a couple of their early albums were 'good'. That is bollocks, Definitely Maybe and What's The Story stand alone as two of the greatest albums of all time.

How many albums do you own then, 20? Not liking OK Computer because it`s depressing is the sort of argument a fourteen year old girl would come up with. Prick.

Hehe,

Shouldn't this be Radiohead vs Muse?

Ciderman, I need your assistance.

When I posted my favourite 50 albums on its thread Spammy (who seemed to have similar taste) asked why didn`t I post more here and really this thread is the answer. Go to a dedicated music forum and you find fresh ideas, healthy debate and recommendations. Here, certainly today all i`m seeing is complete Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime with no taste. I feel sorry for you really.

I dunno, I'd rather be someone who a random idiot on the internet thinks has no taste, because I like a few Oasis songs, than be a random idiot on the internet who goes about preaching to people abut what music they're allowed to like.

If someone can write their own songs, and make them not sound crap, then they know more about music than most people. If all they can do is go about telling everyone what they're allowed to like, then they're just a pretentious feck button

Its Green Day, Oasis, Travis and Eminem at the end, there is no Aerosmith or Blur in it

I was able to take him seriously right up until he started talking about feck Buttons.

Not everyone has the same opinion about music, but it's perfectly okay to mock the tastes of others as long as you don't come across as a smug cock while doing so. Which, in fairness, is tricky.

I'm going to go into a corner and shut up now.

I like a few Oasis songs too, first album was great, and back in the day were by far my favorite band, but I grew up and so did my taste in music.

Your arrogance really knows no bounds, does it? You feel sorry for me? If you had one scintilla of an iota of common sense you would just shut the feck up and let people like what they like. But that would be too enlightened a view for someone like yourself.

You wear your musical taste on your sleeve as if it somehow makes you more informed than everyone else on here, and you look down on people who like commercial music. Good for you. You like music. That goes for a lot of us on here. In fact I'd say there's plenty on here who are better informed than you, but they don't go shouting about it because they realise one thing your pretentsion doesn't allow. Music is subjective. There are no right or wrong bands/albums to like. If someone likes Oasis, what odds does it make to you?

The fact that you are talking about going on message boards tells me everything I need to know. You are probably led by the arseholes that inhabit those places and only like bands who don't sell any records. The people that talk about bands "selling out" rather than their music. You talk about healthy debate, well where has that been in your posts? You seem to prefer childish insults and snobbish views.

Been great chatting to you.

No, I don't like OK Computer, end of. Do I have to like Radiohead albums? No I do not. And vice versa you do not have to like Oasis albums. Just don't spout shit to people because they prefer one band over another.

Oasis are a bit shit though, it has to be said ;)

IMHO of course :D

Shame Liam can't sing for toffee these days.

How've you been Red?

And fair enough, that's your opinion. I'm not going to bang on about how I know more than you and criticise you for not owning every album ever produced, just for the simple fact you don't like a band I like.

What do you make of the new single?

I'm alright lad.

As for the new single, it's same old same old for me. I gave up hoping for a good Oasis album years ago.

I won't call you a cnut for liking it though, you'll always be a cnut in my eyes regardless :D;)

This is a message board last time I looked and i`ve already mentioned Radiohead. But I suppose it`s easy to ignore that because then you can pigeon hole me as an active music fan who hates anything popular. Yawn.

Quite clearly I was referring to music message boards, which you were talking about. I'm not pigeon-holing you, your comments in this thread have done that on their own.

Because I don't get paid until Friday, and even then I don't know if I will be able to afford it.

I don't follow how much they sell anymore, so wouldn't know how quick they'd sell out (if at all), though going by the ticket sales to their tour they still have massive pull.

On another note, have you ever ordered anything form their site? I'm wondering how quick/reliable they are.
