Greatest ever Cricket XI

Don Bradman
S Tandulkar
V Richards
B Lara
Sir Gary Sobers
Imran Khan (Captain)
Adam Gilchrist
Wasim Akram
Shane Warne
Murali
Michael Holding

No doubt missed a few dozen greats in the process.

I'd take out Richards and put in Ponting and take out Akram for Mcgrath.

Alan Donald
Sir Jack Hobbs
Clarrie Grimmett
'Big' Joel Garner
Michael Bevan
Dean Jones

Sydney Barnes

Those are just some names I can recall (not first hand for most of them... but through many a rainy day when the cricket is on).

Those two are clearly not greats. . . (and I'm not even sure Donald is can be classed as one. Both good one day players, that's about it. As for Sydney Barnes, I wonder if he actually played against more than one side.

(although, I don't think you're classing them as greats. . . )

I don't know how many have seen this article below. It's an emphatic vote for Bradman and Sobers. If we include 21st century performances as well Warne would have a lot more votes, and Murali, and possibly some others, would be in.

*********************************************************

The Wisden Cricketers of the Century are five cricketers who were judged to be the most prominent players of the 20th century, as selected by a 100-member panel of cricket experts appointed by Wisden Cricketers' Almanack in 2000. In order of votes, the Wisden Cricketers of the Century are:
Position Name Votes
1. Sir Donald Bradman 100
2. Sir Garfield Sobers 90
3. Sir Jack Hobbs 30
4. Shane Warne 27
5. Sir Viv Richards 25
6. Dennis Lillee 19
6. Sir Frank Worrell 19
8. Wally Hammond 18
9. Denis Compton 14
10. Imran Khan 13
10. Richard Hadlee 13
Many members of the panel complained that two of the five votes cast by each member would be wasted, as they would almost certainly be cast for Bradman and Sobers. The editor of Wisden at the time, Matthew Engel, noted that the only real deficiency of the list was the absence of a fast bowler.

Even, though that list is biased. . . I'd have no qualms in calling Sobers the greatest cricketer, ever. In fact growing up as a kid, it was common knowledge.
