Since its a preety rubbish day, thought Id give my greatest ever cricket XI to the caf. Only rule is that you must have watched the players in your lifetime, and you must pick a Test playing team.

  1. Sachin Tendulkar
  2. Mark Waugh (Cpt)
  3. Rahul Dravid
  4. Brian Lara
  5. Kevin Pieterson
  6. Adam Gilchrist (Wk)
  7. Shaun Pollock
  8. Shane Warne
  9. Muttiah Muriliatharan
  10. Wasim Akram
  11. Glen Mcgrath

My most exciting selection is including both Warne and Murali. I would love to see them bowling in tandom, however much they do not like each other! Ive had to make a big call in leaving out Ponting, but I do rate Mark Waugh.

I think Pointing would have to be in there. For either Waugh or KP.

I know KP is possibly the best bats man at the minute, but Pointing has been doing it consistently for years.

Otherwise fine.

I'd definately have either Youssuff or Ponting in there but apart from that it's a good side

Never mind the fact that you've selected a player with a Test average of 40 in a greatest ever XI, why've you got him as captain?

I agree with using both Warne and Murali in the same side. You can do without an extra batsman if your top 6 comprises players like Tendulkar, Lara and Dravid. They'd make 450 no trouble at all, especially with handy batsmen like Akram, Pollock and Warne in the tail.

I'm slightly staggered you've left out Ponting though. I'd have him in there instead of Waugh.

feck being only 15 is a hinderence here anyway....

1.Sachin Tendulkar
2.Lara
3.Ponting
4.Pieterson
5.Mohammad Yousus/Yousuf Youhana (good than aswell)
6.Gilchrist
7.Freddie
8.Warne
9.Ambrose
10.Mcgrath
11.Murali

As i say i have'nt seen as many as other people but there have been some amazing cricetters in my lifetime.

Right, have this on for size:

1. Taylor
2. Tendulkar
3. Ponting
4. Lara
5. Border (c)
6. Botham
7. Healy (w)
8. Warne
9. Ambrose
10. McGrath
11. Marshall

No Imran Khan?

While Ian Healy is the greatest gloveman I've ever seen, Adam Gilchrist was also one of the better keepers of his generation and an absolutely phenomonal batsman. I think the 20 odd runs he had over Healy in terms of batting average (30 at his peak) compensates for slighly reduced keeping ability.

Mark Taylor is the greatest captain I've ever seen, with Fleming a close second. Truly masterful tactician, and better than AB, as good as he was.

I'd also have one of the great Pakistani bowlers in there for Ambrose, but that's a bit more of a close-call.

I tried to go for one all rounder, and that was Botham, although I could have easily replaced him with Khan. Just personal choice.

AB gets the captaincy for pure nostalgia. I only saw him at the end of his career, but managed to see the unbeaten double-hundred he got in 1993 against England - phenomenal.

As for Healy, I went for an out-and-out keeper. Again, nostalgia. remember him saving a test back in 1993 (Graham Thrope's debut if I remember rightly), and as amazing as Gilchrist still is, no-one that I have seen has been a better keeper than Healy

And again, I'm feeling nostalgic about the state of West Indian fast bowling, so I got greedy and chose two

1. Gavasker
2. Tendulkar
3. Ponting
4. Lara
5. Sobers
6. Imran Khan C
7. A Gilchrist
8. W Akram
9. Ambrose
10. Warne
11. Murali

This is unfair, I could probably do three teams all capable of beating each other.

You've missed out Viv Richards, Sults, without doubt the best batsman I've ever seen. And Imran's a must in any all time side(with Melb on this). One of the best fast bowlers ever(probably better than Younis and Akram), fantastic batman and a great captain to boot. Not bad at all. Probably makes the top 5 greatest cricketers of all time. Oh and I'd have Holding in there as well, instead of Ambrose, in fact I can think of a few I'd have over Ambrose. Holding was a brilliant bowler, at his best probably the greatest of them all. And yeah, tough call, so many players to choose from.

First of all, while I've never seen Viv Richards bat in real life, I've seen videos, his career records etc and for me, Ponting is better. Ponting would be my all-time number 3, so I find it hard to understand how people can not pick him in a team based on cricket of the last 15 or so years (give or take a few). I'll try and pick a team, but since I've only really been a big fan for maybe 10 years and then not watching as much world cricket as I should/could, I have to apologise if it's all a bit skewed.

1Jayasuriya
2Steve Waugh(c)
3Ponting
4Tendulkar
5Lara
6Kallis
7Gilchrist(w)
8Warne
9Pollock
10McGrath
11Murali

Honourable mentions to: Graeme Smith, Thorpe, Fleming, Stewart, Flintoff, Ambrose and Walsh (I was too young to see them at their real peak), Hayden, Dravid, Gough, Donald, Pietersen

I did my list in about a minute.

I agree, Sir Viv is a cert in any world team, Holding was one of my all time favs, It's also a travesty I could not fit Waqar...

I'm not sure about Gavasker now.

I reckon you do one team for English conditions and another team for Indian conditions.

You'd have done well to put Saeed Anwar in at the top of the order and move Waugh to the middle order in place of that fecking no-mark Kallis.

But then you'd have had to drop one of Warne and Murali to accomodate a 3rd seamer, so I suppose that's a consideration too.

Indian conditions

S Gavasker
S Anwar
S Tendulkar
Javid Miandad
R Dravid
Imran Khan C
WK
Abdul Qadir
W Akram
W Younis
Murali

That's a quick one, sure to have missed some greats out...

Can't leave Brian Lara out of that line-up. The best player of slow bowling I've ever seen.

My team from what I have seen (bias is a factor here)

Vaughan
Tendulkar
Ponting
Lara
Pietersen
Flintoff
Gilchrist
Pollock
Warne
Donald
McGrath

This is largely based on visiting teams in England, given I didn't have the right tele to see England abroad until recently. I am 24:

Tendulkar
Ponting
Lara
Thorpe
Dravid
Boucher
Akram
Warne
Donald
Ambrose
McGrath

I seem to have given preference to bowlers here (I'll claim Akram as an all rounder at a push!), but then again, they were up against English batsmen...

There's no certain 11 for me so instead of looking like a spastic for leaving someone out I'll just name my certainties...Tendulkar, Richards, Akram, Holding, Warne, Imran(c)

There have been so many underrated players in my cricket watching era. Gary Kirsten, Richie Richardson, Phil Tufnell, Stuart McGill, Chris Cairns come to mind

Obviously not all of them are world beaters but a few have been legends in their own right

Stuart MacGill must be gutted to have been born so close to Warne.

Who knows how good he could have been at international level.

Where the hell is Sir Beefy??!! Astonished that you have left him out there.

People are already including Pieterson in all time cricket 11?

He has a long way to go to be counted among the likes of Sachin, Lara, Richards etc
