Grealish To City? | City bid £100M

He didn't have less chances created, I just told you that. He had more, quite a bit more actually. Big Chances is some weird FIFA stat, with no delineation. Check fbref or whoscored for congregated Opta stats.

Also he didn't most of his career in the Championship. It was 3 seasons out of 8. You said Bruno will have double the chances created, he doesn't even have more now, let alone double when Grealish joins City.

Bruno is the more productive player.

He's gonna prove to be better than Sancho. He's gonna win player of the year in the next 2 seasons. He's that good. England would have won the Euros if they had built the team around him.

I just went off the PL website so im not sure how that big chances created thing works admittedly. He spent 3 out of the 8 in the Championship but that's taking into account his first seasons in the PL where he barely got a game (18 appearances in 2 years), if you really want to start digging up stats we can because those 14 goals in 3 seasons of Championship football isn't looking good.

Grealish has had the best 8 months in the history of football having been injured, barely making the Euro squad and making 2 appearances for Villa at the end of the season its fecking nuts the England hype has sky rocketed him to the moon.

Bruno racking up 30 odd goals and feck knows how many assists in 18 months and you're trying to dig out a stat making Grealish look good. Get the feck out dude.

Nobody played false 9 before. Wingers, no 10 s no 8s tried to play. Some times work some times don't. But he has attributes to play there in pep system.

Many teams try to play false 9 but asked too much from them who played as false 9. City system allowed false 9 to be effective because of attackers work in tandem and wing backs and no 8s joined in attack too. There will be enough space and time to impact the game for grealish to play in there.

They already had that experience of playing false 9 system with out any focal point last season. They scored goals for fun too. Why with grealish they will struggle suddenly without him they proved already it is working.
What do you mean nobody played false 9 before? Hasn't sterling played there a number of times for pep? I don't see what he's got, aside from being able to keep the ball in tight spaces, that would make him a particularly good false nine.

Yep, if he actually goes to City, I'd put some money on him winning POTY if I were a betting man tbh. He was the forerunner along with Kane this season before he got injured, and he was setting up El Ghazi/Trezeguet/Traore etc.
I’m happy to take a friendly bet he doesn’t even make the team of the year

Grealish is phenomenal. Anyone calling him average is out of their mind.

I don’t think anyone is calling him average. People are talking about him getting overrated which I agree and people who believe Sancho is or will be the better player doesn’t mean they think he’s average.

Not gonna suddenly change my mind about a player who I find enchanting just because another team's after him and made a monstrous offer. City might not have been his first choice, but the money shows they appreciate him.

He's a ridiculously talented player, but his output isn't anything special. That could be down to the fact that he had to do everything himself at Villa, we will have to see. I

That’s so dumb. England had a plethora of talent in attack. They got to the final and lost in penalties. If he was so good why didn’t he step up and take a penalty? This creaming over him being a generational talent over the last 12 months is just over the top. Him and Sancho are both very good players. We “needed” Sancho more than we needed grealish. End of story.

When we need to put out an Earth 11 against the Monstars I hope they build the team around Grealish and leave the likes of Neymar and Mbappe at home. Hopefully we'll have perfected human cloning by then so he can assist himself and can replace those scrubs Haaland and Donnarumma as well.

You do know Sancho is 5 years his junior right? Sancho is already more productive than Grealish has ever been, how much better is he going to be at 26?

I don't know about any hype from when he was injured, and whatever there was probably had something due to the storming season he was having before he got injured. When he was in the Championship his game was completely different, but of course if you only look at goals/assists you won't know why.

He was given a more attacking role last season and better players around him and his production exploded, and will explode further if he joins City. I'm not even saying he's better than Bruno or anything. You said Bruno will double his chances created among other stats after he joins City, which just doesn't make any sense. When it comes to creative stats like chances created, shot creating actions, goal creating actions, and even assists they're already very close. If he joins up with Sterling/Mahrez/De Bruyne and God forbid Kane, I don't see those numbers going down.

I don't bet but I'm happy to do one in spirit mate. We'll revisit this at the end of the season. Even if he stays at Villa (team of the season, not POTY :D )

I didn’t comment on this but looking like it’s going through it doesn’t make sense looks like a big gamble to begin with judging off his profile and price tag, but worse is I feel Pep is looking at Grealish as a experimental project with makes it a massive gamble.

Southgate chose the takers. Grealish wanted to take one.

Yep. Grealish is undoubtedly an excellent player too, but it's purely a "can't hoard all the good players" situation. There's loads of top #10's and left wingers, and we have a problem fitting them all in anyway. Grealish would've made a bigger difference to a team like Chelsea IMO who need the individualism in attack that Grealish can bring, so I'm not too bothered by City getting him.
Agree wholeheartedly, the cult of Grealish is close to overtaking the player himself.

Feck me

He’ll find an absolute cure for Covid in his spare time also.

He may prove to be ‘better’ than Sancho [I don’t know as I can’t tell the future] but feck me our fanbase are disgusting, Sancho is a 21 year old wunderkind who has been likened to Neymar et al. & people are crying because City are buying yet another good player.

Get a grip gentlemen.

Surprised I'm still seeing those takes tbh. Southgate had to come out after the game and clarify exactly for this reason.

I am a bit baffled at the meltdown. Gutted they're signing him because I love him as a player, but the difference he'll make is just not worth crying over? He's a great player being added to a squad of great players, its just yeah alright City being City, what else is new? Only new part is them openly spunking a big sum of money for once.

He is joining City. Don't understand why there is so much discussion.

Not sure why this has turned into a Sancho vs Grealish thing, but you guys have bought an absolute gem, who is 5 years younger, nearly 30m cheaper and just completely bossed one of the best leagues in the world. Whether or not Grealish is currently a better player (who even knows), but City signing him doesn't take any gloss off your signing.

I think he is saying that to take on the blame and divert the attention. You don’t pick a player if they don’t put their hand up - at least for the first five takers.

When a Villa fan has to enter the chat to give United fans heads a wobble over their new £70mil+ signing it shows the state of this place.

Well said sir.

Bit hard for so many on here to do the jewish kid at christmas routine that we so often see on here when we've bought Sancho, Varane and will most likely get a midfielder and a new RB too.

Meh. People just don't like that Grealish is finally getting the credit he deserves (which is seen at the expense of Sancho) so they'll try anything to knock him. Grealish being great doesn't mean Sancho won't be.

It's just a shame it's going to take him tearing the league up at City to convince some.

I bet loads put their hands up to take one. Our squad is filled with a lot of confident people. Pickford said he wanted to take one, too. Gareth just preferred the 5 that took them.

Sadly, I think that's why he's probably going to leave. As long as he plays for Villa, he'll always be knocked down a peg from his true standing, even seemingly by his national team manager.

I think it’s a ridiculous sum to be paying for anyone, let alone Grealish.

I like Grealish. He has good ability, is creative and is a pain to dispossess. But he has never in a million years done anything to merit that sort of fee, nor do I think he’ll ever justify that sort of outlay in terms of his on field performances.

That said, it’s loose change to Man City’s owners and he’ll be a good addition to the squad.

100% agree with you. Grealish and sancho are bother special players. I still think sancho is the better player just because his stats are much better but that may be down to the fact grealish is playing for villa. If he makes the move to city this season we will see who has the bigger impact.

For some people, it isn't enough that we've massively improved 2 areas of the team, we've also got to compete with city for every player they want as well. Some people just cannot be satisfied. They want everything now or everything is shit forever.

From the outside looking in, you guys have been a long way behind City for a while, but this season (and last 2 to be fair) you have made very significant strides in bridging the gap. Sancho and Varane are transformative signings. Unless people thought you could bridge the gap to a team who can pay 100m for a player up front in 1 window, not sure what more you could expect? For what it's worth, I think you're a couple of midfield signings and maybe a goalkeeper away from putting up a good fight this year.

I think this debate has less to do with being upset that City got a player or that we need him. I think its primarily about how good Grealish is.

Group A thinks thinks he's a brilliant player, who is among the best in PL, and will be a big difference maker at City. Would get into any team. Up there with Bruno and KdB.

Groups B thinks he's a good player, but will struggle at City, will not stand out and just be one of their many attackers. Might not even start at United over Rashford or Sancho. Like a Willian.

Since there is a difference in evaluation, Group A thinks Group B is downplaying his ability(sour grapes), and Group B thinks Group A is overrating him(media hype). I guess we will see when the season starts. I'm firmly in Group A.

“Tell me you’ve never watched Sancho without telling me you’ve never watched Sancho”.

Exactly. The noisy neighbours are tinkering with a winning machine whereas we've spent 3 years building a car from scratch. Last season was encouraging but it highlighted the weak points and we've set about addressing those flaws quickly and efficiently this summer.

We've signed one of the most exciting youngsters in Europe and one of the top 5 defenders in the world. We're still after a midfielder and a right back.

We were already very good but we're definitely going to be better next season.

And yet, despite all that, you'll still hear moans because city are signing Grealish.

Now I'd love to sign him - he's fecking brilliant. I can't think of a single PL player who's impressed me more over the last 2 years.

But we can't sign everyone. And we can't afford to spend our time worrying about what our rivals are doing. The most we can do is improve ourselves and we're definitely doing that.

It will be interesting to see how he adapts at City. He hogs the ball whereas most of the City team like to play quick 1-2s. Also what happens with the likes of Sterling, Silva,Torres etc

Exactly. This isn't Liverpool signing the final piece of the jigsaw like VVD to elevate them to new heights. City are already a top team and this signing will probably marginally improve them given the quality they already have.

We have Bruno as a 10 and Rashford as a LW. So I'm not sure where he fits into our plans given we arent state owned.

The only other reason I can see for this hue and cry is if City had signed a Messi, Neymar, Ronaldo etc level player and they haven't. In fact the player they're linked with who is the most frightening proposition is Kane given he's miles better than what tvey hage in the same position. That's much more a league breaker than this.

Basically calm the feck down caftards. You can't have them all.

Maybe because I haven’t really watched him much but Grealish strikes me as a ”moments player” good player but not someone who’s going to have De Bruyne influence when he isn’t scoring or assisting.

again I haven’t seen him enough, I’m not surprised they are signing him but surely a natural goal scorer should have been the priority for City.

Seems to be someone who is always in the game to me as his speciality is his ability to carry the ball without opponents being able to get it off him. But at the same time, KDB is much more efficient in his use of the ball and makes the ball do the talking with his ridiculous passing

Definitely agree that a quality CF imrpoves them much more.

He's almost the complete opposite. Regardless of who he's playing for or where, the games seem to run through him. Haven't seen him have an anonymous game for 3 years, and I can probably count on one hand the number of times he wasn't the best player on the pitch.
