Grealish To City? | City bid £100M

To me Grealish right now is just a prime Willian (15/16). The Chelsea guys in here will probably be the only ones to get what I'm saying. That is nowhere near a £100m fee. City are getting totally fleeced here and I'm glad Chelsea are playing no part in this.

I must have forgotten that period where Willian looked like one of the best players in the league

Are you kidding ? Overrated player where Sancho is the superior player atm is the view of many in here because Sancho has better G/A stats. Comparing a Bundesliga player in the second best team in the league vs a PL player in a midtable team is stupid.

Aye, it is stupid to compare someone who’s 21 and shone for 3 seasons in a good league in a top team AND in the CL to someone who’s turning 26, plays for a midtable team and has had 2 top seasons in a top league.

So far, despite being 5 years younger, Sancho has achieved much more than Jack, hell Jack might be the better player, but right now the opinion Grealish is a superior is based on a “feeling” rather than what’s actually happened in their careers.

I can see a few people are trying to play down Grealish's abilities now but it's as clear as day how good a player he is. Even with the embarrassment of riches Pep has, he still feels he needs to spend 100M, which would make it the most expensive transfer in Premier League history.

It's a bit shit because he's a player I admire a lot. I kind of hope he does well, as long as it's not against us. I have the same feeling when it comes to Sterling.

I guess this season, it's going to be a case of Grealish vs Sancho. No doubt they'll be a thread on it soon. Hopefully, our boy comes out on top.

Ah for us, yes that’s different although sometimes you have to just pay the money to get the best players

Yeah sometimes you have to pay that little more when you really need a particular profile of player. Similar to what we had to do when we purchased Maguire.

Thing is though, is Grealish the type of player City need? A ball carrying midfielder? They have a few, whereas we have none.

Depending on what you class as a ball carrying midfielder we do have plenty ourselves especially if you're included the wide forwards (which why wouldn't you as that's where Grealish will likely be playing for City)

I do feel Grealish would fit in better with us than with City though, he's a bit of a maverick on the pitch whereas at City he'll have to adapt to exactly what Pep wants him to do

I’m not sure what that even means? Pep decides feck all about the budget, he simply says to City”we want him”.

Looking more and more likely he’ll end up at City and I think he’s a cracking signing. Lot of debate about age but he’s at the perfect time to kick onto the next level.

I think it’s money we’ll spent, a good deal for both clubs imo.

No he wasn't :lol::wenger:

We played against Neymar and Mbappe who are streets ahead of Grealish. We also played against other actual world class players like Salah and Kane who have been at the top level for years now not just 1 year.
Sure they are better players on paper but Grealish was electric against Utd. I was worried every time he got the ball. Reminded me of coming up against prime Hazard, where you just can’t get the ball from him.

I think he's a decent player when it comes to skill, vision and delivery but also comes with some big flaws like tracking back, defending, lack of goals, lack of pace etc. Pound for pound this will be a complete bust footballing wise.

People are going absolutely berserk and comparing him to Iniesta and whatnot - completely over the top. As a partner for KDB in midfield this will not work, and playing him as a LW would be counterproductive given his lack of pace. I had to do a double take, but he's scored 15 goals in the Premier League and 14 goals in the Championship for Villa in about 7 years. His football contribution to City will be marginal at best. Kane on the other hand is a different kettle of fish, that's someone they actually need.

But back to Jack and this 100m quid transfer. He seems to be very well liked by the general English public. I think this a PR move from City to further sportswash their soiled reputation in the game. Paying for goodwill is Abu Dhabi's MO, it is the reason why they bought City in the first place. Spending 100m quid on the darling of English of football (and maybe 150m quid on Kane next) buys them so much widespread acceptance and positive spin in the media that completely washes off all the dodgy sponsorship deals, the FFP cheating and the general stench of the Abu Dhabi regime. Who cares about slave labor when 'our boys Jack and Harry are playing under Pep in the CL tonight'. It will completely shift the narrative and that's what City desperately wants.

Looks like nobody wants Kane then.
Going to be a feeding frenzy for Haaland next season.

 Someone just get this out of the way and do it now.

I actually think both will struggle at odd points during the season but will show flashes of brilliance here and there and will probably end up with double figures in goals and assists. Both will be very good signings in the long term.

I worry that Grealish might help City vs us as the game inevitably follows the usual pattern of ultra quick attacking blitz from United followed by defending in a low block and holding on for the rest of the game, launching the odd counter. Having Grealish and the constant fouls he draws might unsettle our defence/midfield a bit and allow for City to be less one dimensional in their attacks.

Why are people worried about Man city signing a player like this

When we have this demon at home

You're forgetting that we've signed all manner of "set piece specialists", that when they get to us, never even hit the target again, let alone score.

Depay the absolute best example.

From what?
I'm basing what I said on actually watching every minute Grealish played for Villa, and seeing Watkins and the other "forwards" consistently screw up.
Yes, De Bruyne, or Ozil the season he was on fire wouldn't have seen their strikers put every chance away, but the converted chances were woefully low.
Expected assists. Same thing as xG but for assists. As in he got basically the amount of assists you would have expected given the chances he created. It happens with every player, Grealish had nothing weird going on with his stats not showing the whole picture or anything.

I know some people might be annoyed that City can just suddenly dive in with unlimited wads of cash at the last minute while other clubs have to work for their money. But don't forget that City's money comes from entirely legal avenues, such as their sponsorship deals with Pep-Si and their most recent one; Manchester City with a Fake Moustache.

It's truly pitiful to see United fans doing everything they can to discredit Grealish because he's joining City. Let's face reality. This is the type of signing Ferguson used to make when United were on top. Not content to rest on the past season's success, he would bring in fresh talent to rejuvenate and motivate the squad, crushing the rest of the Premier League by signing its best players for fees others cannot compete with. Guardiola is following in Ferguson's footsteps. It might be a harsh reality to face, but it's the truth.

I mean, I'm sorry now but....ahahahahhahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah.

JFC.

Good one.

He will hate it there and Pep seems like the type of manager that would have a problem with him. Should have signed him instead of vDB.

This thread only proves that some of our supporters don’t deserve nice things. The moaning over Grealish is just completely over the top.

You're right, it is pitiful to try and discredit Grealish but comparing City's attitude of treating the game like a Free to Play app, whilst using Dad's credit card to buy all the booster packs, and Fergie's teams that weren't even the most expensive squads at the time, isn't entirely accurate.

He’s a good player but some of you on here are going on like he‘s the English Zidane. Sancho is potentially a generational English talent, Grealish is NOT.

Not sure why people are determined to compare Sancho and Grealish. Sancho has a much brighter future and will likely be a better player but City's squad is just incredible. Adding a player like Grealish just gives them another player who can win a game on his own. That highlight of him falling over is pretty funny though.

I haven't seen many people trying to discredit Grealish. I think most accept he's a good player but many (rightly, imo) have some doubts about whether he'll improve city much and whether he'll be able to perform as a medium sized fish in a big pond as opposed to a big fish in a small pond. I think both are reasonable.

Aye, it’s so far wide of the mark.
A billion spent in 5 years is so far removed from the Fergie way, that post is an insult to the great man.

A billion in five years. Mental when you put it like that. 200 million a year. It's impossible to operate as a profitable business and keep up with that.

I cant for the life of me not think about that one picture that he posted with a girl who looked up to the ceiling. Good player but he's a bit dumb.
