Grealish To City? | City bid £100M

Isn't it more to do with how Pep would want him to play? He doesn't like his players to hold the ball for long.

Henry has previously commented how players in Guardiola's system have freedom in the final third and he wouldn't hang on to the ball for as long as he does with Villa, since he would be playing with better players.

Grealish and Kane would be pretty frightening, not gonna lie. However, it doesn't always work out the way you'd think when a title winning team buys two world class players : Shevchenko and Ballack -06/07 and Veron and RVN- 01-02 spring to mind

wishful thinking/straw clutching maybe.

He just doesn't hold it for the sake of it, he helps the team with his carrying of the ball. We also have to take into account his current team, it is usually better if he keeps the ball because they would probably lose it otherwise. So, I think he'll do less of that with City but it will still be a weapon they would use a lot.

I don't think Pep will have a problem with that, he bought Bernando Silva after all whose attribute is exactly that. Grealish will be the improved version because he also possesses better playmaking abilities.

Grealish will improve quite a bit under Pep. If City get Kane as well, they are very likely to finally win the CL.

He’s my top pick for the summer so I really hope this goes through. I do think he’ll play a slightly different role for City than Villa though but I think he’ll be excellent. Gündoğan turns 31 in a couple of months so I would expect to see Grealish & KDB in the middle given the option so Foden can continue to run at players with freedom. It does still leave us with a big gap up top.

Foden - Jesus - Mahrez
—— Grealish — KDB ——
————— Rodri —————

Sterling, Torres, Fernandinho, Gündoğan all rotated in. I think B.Silva will leave if you believe the rumours. Obviously if Kane lands then the team above improves significantly. Let’s see.

This is how I see it too. Everybody in this thread keeps talking about him as a Sterling alternative but my strong suspicion is that Pep sees him as the left 8 in the 4-3-3. Gundogan was massive last year but it was clearly a purple patch in terms of end product and he is getting on in years. And if KDB begins to decline then Grealish is there to pick up the slack with creativity and chance creation over the next few years.

There are some similarities here with SAF signing Berbatov. Its not really a signing of massive immediate need but if you get the chance to acquire one of the league's best players you just do it and figure out the details later.

His perfect position. He will tear it up there.

Also, yes he is the archetypal SAF style signing. If Ole is worth his salt, he’ll kidnap Grealish at the airport. Biggest mistake of any manager’s career to let this guy sign for someone else.

Ok I've seen several types of hyperbole in this thread but this is new

I can’t see how he fails to perform at City, he’s gonna get more space and time than he’s ever had at Villa and his quality is clear to see. But not every transfer works out and that’s the hope I’m clinging to

If Jack Grealish is what City can get for 100m pounds then I'm happy with that. I'd rather have Rashford.

Yeah. Sometimes I lose it and flip out. But Grealish to City? God damn.

Some of y'all on this here forum need to get a hold of yourselves. We're not talking about God's gift to football or something. He's not going to suddenly win PFA player of the year, be the best player in Europe, lob Seaman, win the Nobel Prize, or whatever you all are worried about. Even if he does well for them, so what? I'll start worrying if they get an actual striker for him to supply.

Also, we're not in for him because we can't afford to sign him right now. I'm not going to lose sleep over unrealistic transfers.

This feels like one of those mass hysterias where people are getting worked up because others are getting worked up and it's feeding on itself. Breathe. It's gonna be OK.

I'm confused. He's a good English player, but nowhere near the standard of some of the other City players or some of ours. He'll probably improve them, but they haven't signed Messi (or Sancho). I'm actually kind of pleased they've decide to splash out their £100m on him.

Nowhere near worth their money - if that’s their marquee signing this season, we might be closer on the paper to them than in many years

Genuine question to those trying to really downplay Grealish....did you actually watch him play for Villa many times last season?

I've watched him as much as any other player playing for another club. He's a very good player, is he £100m good? I'm doubtful. He seems to have become a bit of a media darling in the last year without actually improving his stats and performances too much.

City will probably be improved by him but he's definitely not De Bruyne standard in terms of the quality he will being to the team. If you were going to choose Sancho or him who would you choose? I think most people would choose the latter outside of the English media.

I’m sure all that is true, or most of it anyway but he just happens to be my favourite player, has been for a while, and as a fan I wanted us to sign him. If people are going to ask me to be rational I might as well give up altogether.

As it is, I’ll be fully pissed off for an unhealthy period and will then fasten myself firmly to the next impossible dream, if it’s okay with the Sensible Squad (who I’m sure live happier, more well-balanced lives than me!). That’s just how I do this football fan thing.

Yeah. He's a quality player. He isn't a generational talent. Sancho is for me a better player especially with what he's proven in his career, and one far more suited to us as he can play on the right (and is 5 years younger). Bruno is for me a different player but better as a #10 for us. With Rashford in the squad as well, we never needed Grealish once Bruno was signed.

At City, he won't be main man ahead of De Bruyne and they need runners in behind and a direct player more than another creator who likes to come short. That's where I stand on it.

Only odd thing about Grealish is that he's 26 soon. I don't know if he was this good in the championship or he's just a late bloomer. It's why it's a crime that Southgate refuses to start him. He's not a youngster.

I saw the Kane rumors and I don't think they can afford him, even if they're a state backed club. If Grealish goes for 100mil, Levy will not let Kane go without 150-180, not a single chance.

But, at a second thought, if they get 40 mil for Silva and 60-70 for Sterling, that's Grealish on a free and a quarter of Kane. Silva will be easy to move as he can play anywhere, but Sterling is very hard to get rid of, especially sending him outside of the UK.
Yep and they’ve already made 40-50 million in players sales this window.

if he plays as an 8 I cant see how the team will function better out of possesion/pressing/defensively. If he plays wide then he has to stick to touchline a bit more than hes used to, hes got a lot of adapting to Peps style for sure
