Gaming Grand Theft Auto V | 2022: GTA+ (monthly GTA Online subscription) announced exclusively for PS5/Xbox Series

4 years is a long cycle though.

Nearly every other series has a 1 or 2 year cycle.

We need another GTA, this gen or not.

If we wait for next gen, which hasn't even been invented, we'll be waiting another 4 years.

Not to mention all the teething problems you usually get early on.

San Andreas was ace. I probably spent 20 hours playing it during the first two days since release, I barely got out of my room, I was just driving around the city all the time.

It's a shame they never thought about making a HD re-release of the series for PS3. It'd sell like crazy and probably wouldn't be so difficult to produce seeing as they basically do that with everything nowadays.

People probably mean that they expected Rockstar to go down the previous route, i.e. release new editions of virtually the same game, like San Andreas and Vice City to a GTA3.

I got a feeling they will wait until 2013 before they release it. They have been going down the 1 game a year path for a while now and they have Max Payne 3 scheduled for a March 2012 release, and it's bound to sell big as it's the first one in this generation.

They released Stories from liberty city and Red dead for PS3 in the space of 2 months. I don't think sales are an issue. The other thing that has most speculating that it will be out is that Take 2 have forecasted a massive spike in share value sometime next year.

Researchers predict GTA V will be download only | Games industry news | MCV

Market research company Newzoo has made the bold prediction that Grand Theft Auto V will be released as a digital-only product.

The prediction comes just hours ahead of the official debut trailer which is due for release at 16:00GMT today.

"There are a lot of reasons why publishers are pushing towards digital distribution of triple-A games,” Newzoo’s report states. “Speaking out loud might harm the relationship with retail partners, but the benefits have become too large to remain silent about the desire to go completely digital.

“The ultimate objective being to launch games faster, create continuous revenues on a title and simply to make more money. Will retail disappear from the picture? Of course not. Retail will always remain an important channel to promote and distribute games. Retail has a strong hand to play when it comes to eyeballs and… boxes make a nice gift.

“Boxed games will not disappear, but what is in the box will. That is why the boxed GTA V version will contain a collectible piece of merchandise and a download code. No disc."

Though MCV doesn’t believe Newzoo is correct, the outside chance of a digital-only release was alluded to on this site last week.

However, on the presumption that GTA V will be released for the current generation of machines it’s almost impossible to believe that Rockstar would choose to alienate such a large proportion of its potential target audience by adopting the strategy.

Not only do a high percentage of console owners have a small capacity HDD (or in the case of some Xbox 360 owners, no hard drive at all), but internet infrastructure would make the downloading of such a vast game – likely to be 8GB at the very, very least – a very unsavoury proposition for many.

Ahead of the reveal of the first GTA V trailer this afternoon, gaming-focused market research and consulting firm Newzoo speculated that the title will be download only.

"Boxed games will not disappear, but what is in the box will," CEO Peter Warman said yesterday. "That is why the boxed GTA V version will contain a collectible piece of merchandise and a download code. No disc."

Not so, according to industry analyst Michael Pachter, who took to Twitter to say: "It is not possible that GTA V is digital download only, ZERO probability. 40% of 360s sold have 20Gb or smaller HDD.

"Rockstar in business to sell a lot of copies, won't do anything that compromises that goal. It's a profit deal."

Pachter added: "GTA V trailer tomorrow; if the game is the best in the series, sales will be the most ever in the series (over 24 million units). Can't wait."

I read some spoilers in the newbies about the game, I hope it's not true because it spoiled the ending

I'm not a huge gamer anymore to be honest, I'll be getting MW3 purely for the multiplayer but very few games have a good enough storyline to keep me hooked these days.

I came rivers when I saw the mountain. San Andreas!! (Or Los Santos)
