Can't believe its that time of year again.

Right I had a shite Cheltenham Festival, apart from the outsider the missus picked, and luckily I backed.

I'm going to do Big Fella Thanks & Arbor Supreme to win, and Sir Alex Ferguson's horse What A Friend each way.

Anyone else got any red hot tips?

If the ground has the word soft in it I think Silver by Nature is perfect for the race. He stays, he jumps and he has that bit of class.

Tidal Bay is a bit of a dodgepot but is trading at 48 on Betfair and that is excellent value. Again, he's classy on his day and has an excellent record at Aintree.

That is the name I've been hearing, he's a lock to place at the very least, at Haydock he looked fecking majestic.

Chief Dan George is my outside bet, currently 75-1 on betfair and he should give you a decent run for your money

With Ferguson's luck he'll probably win the Bloody National too.

Skip to the last two minutes of this race and look how effortlessly Silver By Nature jumps, he barely breaks a sweat. He's at ridiculous odds at the moment, I got him at 18-1 a while back. I think the starting price will probably be half that.

Sweepstake?

Winner gets an avatar?

Put me down for a horse if someone does it. I've no time - mum not well and got to do her shopping.

Why haven't we had the sweepstake this year?

Isn't it Brad who does it? Someone do the sweepstake or the Grand National is dead to me.

I'm having a bet on Fergie's horse. It just has to be done.

He reminds me of Earth Summit. Just a relentless stayer who jumps for fun. But the ground isn't gonna be soft enough.

That was my fear aswell. Looking at the weather forecast theres not alot of chance of decent rain either. Havent looked at it properly yet but Id imagine there isnt too many Irish stayers suited by the likely conditions.

My usual approach is go for a "workhorse" type rather than one who's won big chases etc at Cheltenham. The classier types dont really win Nationals

Gone each way on Oscar Time, Ballabriggs and Silver By Nature.

I like Oscar Time, ran very well at Fairyhouse last time out. Jaysus it would be some year for Sam Waley-Cohen if he won this race.

Its a very competitive race this year and I can't see a Mon Mome repeat

So come on then. What's the top tip? Looks like the ground is going to be fast tomorrow.

Anyone ever gone? Its a great weekend even if it is in Liverpool.

I've been the last 7 years. Gutted to be missing out this time. Its a fantastic day and a brilliant weekend away. No-one should believe what they hear about Liverpool. Their football team might be a crowd of cnuts but the city is great to go out in.

This year i'm goin for Oscar Time, Arbor Supreme and Silver by Nature. Was talking to a close friend of the SBN team in work today, and he said that its in unbelievably good shape for this race, and that even in good ground they would be extremely confident of it running well. That was reassuring given that i'd had already put a large stake on it winning.

A good outsider that i'm going to do is In Compliance. Still 100/1 with some bookies, just have to hope it can stay the 4.5 miles. If it can its got a chance.

So silver by nature seems to be the horse to back this year, but having spoken to my dad and youngest brother, both of who follow horse racing avidly, they both seem to think he needs softer ground than what is under foot today. What does anybody else think?

I'm currently swaying toward backstage/oscar time/arbor supreme to win.

in compliance/big fella thanks/what a friend/tidal bay/comply or die each way.

Just need to make up my mind which ones to go with!

I've backed Oscar time.

Just heard that they have watered the course very heavily last night so SBN might still have a chance, perhaps that's just blind optimism on my part. If I was placing a big bet now it would be Oscar Time to place.

I said earlier that he reminded me of Earth Summit and the thing about that horse is it was more a marathon trip he needed than cut in the ground. He won a Scottish National on fast ground. Hopefully that will apply to Silver By Nature also.

As well as that horse I have Tidal Bay, What a Friend and I backed The Midnight Club at 20/1 before his last run.

This is going to be a really beginners question here but how does each way work? I'm going to stick a tenner on Oscar Time each way and it says my return is £190. What do you get if he comes second or third?

Tenner each way costs you 20quid.

Say the horse is 20/1 and gets a place. You get a fifth of the odds with your each way bet.

So if your 20/1 shot finishes in the first 5* for your tenner each way your get 40quid back.

If your horse wins you'll get the "win" money aswell as the each way money.
