Graham Potter | turns down Ajax job

He’ll be gone by the summer and they’ll be looking to replace him by either gazumping Spurs target, Nagelsmann or former Barcelona supremo Louis Enrique.
And what if both of them don’t want the job? What then?

Bohely has already shown that he’s rather have someone who’s proving themselves with a lower team than someone who’s won things

To be fair Emery is a damn good manager, just not one of the absolute best around. Arsenal stint aside he has already achieved more than most managers would in their career.

Remember how bad the Moyes season was? Chelsea are four places below that and they still aren’t sacking him

I hope he beats Liverpool mid week and that buys him enough credit to see out the season. Two birds, one stone.

I’m am slowly shifting mindset here and I was all for Potter coming to Chelsea.

The drop off from Tuchel is horrendous.

His mismanagement of young talent is my biggest concern though. Badiashile and Mudryk cannot get a run of games to develop. We just do not score goals under Potter, a similar concern Brighton fans had also.

His continued reluctance to play centre backs in a back 3 is frightening. Reece James and Cucurella in a back 3 is mind boggling and totally nullifies our right hand side when Reece James is not playing there.

I get Cucurella as you have Chilwell, who I think is better anyway but the Reece James situation is strange. James at RWB is a goal threat and a massive creative force. Putting him at RCB in an emergency or due to an injury crisis is one thing but to play him as RCB with Chalobah and the other CB you signed on the bench with RLC as RWB just makes no sense to me.

Struggling for goals and having one of your best attacking player further back is poor.

Was reading Potter talk about Mason Mount a bit earlier and his words were "he's a smashing lad, and he's been really supportive". What an absolute melt.

This game against Liverpool is hilarious. Battle of the diddies.

Chelsea. Not sure when I last saw a team so absolutely useless in either box, and at the same time so absolutely brilliant everywhere between the boxes.

Well, it isn't. Very few shots from that position end up as goals. It's not like you've made a defensive cock-up if you allow opponents to shoot from there.
Maybe he posts on RAWK. Didn't they used to have a par league or something?. xG, xP are all well and good but the table doesn't lie.

Seems like they're thinking of replacing him with Nagelsmann, according to Romano.

He certainly isn't doing any favor for the reputation of british managers in modern EPL, top teams will try to stay away from them more and more, even if they do great with mid table teams.

I can see Chelsea trying Nagelsmann or Luis Enrique.

I'm surprised. I rated him at Brighton, maybe needs more time to get things going. Though it remains to be seen if he'll be given that at Chelsea.

Plus Emery looks cool in a suit and expensive black loafers, whereas Potter looks like a farmer who’s taking part in a fun run arranged by Trivago.

They lost by 2 goals, and failed to score against a Villa side who aren’t hard to score against.

Potter’s Chelsea are shipping goals and can’t score.

Someone please put this man off his misery

Makes Todd like like an absolute mug doesn’t it. The guy he fired will possibly go on and win 2 major trophies this season whilst the guy he paid millions for is completely out of his depth.

Most damning thing for Potter is that Brighton despite losing him and a few key players have gotten even better

Potter also took a lot of the key coaches with him as well I think.

And they lost Cucarella directly to Chelsea also, and also sadly lost the absolutely excellent Mwepu due to his tragic condition.

It’s genuinely amazing what Di Zerbi has done there. Be fascinating to see if he can continue it next season.

I think Potter is a better manager than he's shown at Chelsea tbh, albeit he is/was very overrated. His problems from his Brighton days, i.e. not being clinical and being sloppy at the back, are happening again.
He's David Moyes 2.0 for me. Good manager at a certain level but certainly not a top level manager. The fact Brighton haven't missed a step since he left says it all.

High regarded for Brighton - not to replace a world class one. It'd be the equivalent of City firing Pep for de Zerbi
Come on now Tuchel is not as high regarded as Pep.

Potter was in the conversation for us as well so it's not like it was out of the blue. I wouldn't have sacked Tuchel but after doing it Potter seemed to be one of the best calls.

Tuchel is extremely high regarded- and will probably have his second CL trophy this year.

Potter was flavor of the month only in the mediocre British context - media hyping up English coaches as world class who would never ever get a look for some of Europe's top clubs. Would Potter get a look in at PSG, BVB, Inter, Benfica, Madrid? Let's get real, there's levels to this.
