Agree with the above. Mbema will be good I think, but Janmaat is crap, Riviere, Thauvin, Siem de Jong (good, but could not stay fit if his life depended on it), Mitrovic (Red card walking). All very poorly thought out signings tbh.

Thauvin was a horrendous signing, Can't believe the club greenlit that deal. Riviere was crap to. To be fair Janmaat had a good World Cup and did start pretty well, but he got sucked into the Newcastle state of mind. Mitrovic was a gamble, it was always going to be rather an excellent coup or a disaster and unfortunately it has been the latter.
So odd that they bought out of form players and expected it to work. Janmaat is just a terrible defender though, he runs a lot and gets up the field, but is always found wanting when asked to defend.
Yeah, Janmaat is your typical dutch 3-5-2 wingback. Great stamina, can put in a decent ball but has horrible concentration defensively, makes far too many fouls and is a huge card risk.
Totally agree. Especially the French based players as you said, The dressing room has been toxic in Newcastle for years because they had too many French speaking players so to bring more in (especially ones that have been poor beforehand) was a really bad choice. Yeah Janmaat is bad defensively but can be pretty decent going forward, although in a team like Newcastle that is never going to work longterm. I think if Newcastle are wanting instant promotion back they are going to have to get rid of quite a few players and start afresh.
I think the only thing that saved Janmaat from criticism from the Newcastle fans as he actually played like he cared.
Agreed, I think they will have to start a fresh and do some whole sale changes, but lucky for the manager that goes there; they've got some really good youth players who will get their chance in the Championship. Adam Armstrong being my top pick to nail a starting place.
Adam Armstrong being the only pick unfortunately, unless they are keeping them very well hidden. Janmaat started his career very well for us - better than DeBuchy who he replaced - and there were quite a few calls for him to take the captaincy from Collocini. Unfortunately like the rest of the team his form disappeared with his confidence.
Hopefully we can keep hold of Mbemba, Townsend, Perez, Shelvey and Lascelles, and I'd give Mitrovich more time too, especially in the Championship. Couldn't care less about the rest of them.
Graham Carr was the biggest myth around this place for a while. I had many a Graham Carr rant on here. Odd bump, though.
Lascelles has played in the champ so you'd be mad to ditch him, the others I do think deserve to be playing in a top league, so hopefully they'll stick around. Although I'd worry for Mitrovic in the champ, as he'll get into some fights, for sure, if he continues the way he plays.
Cal Roberts from what I've heard and the snippets i've seen should be able to get some minutes and I think there's a few others. Names escaping me now. I guess fingers crossed for you guys we come in and pay mega bucks for Perez eh?
