Good or poor film adaptations of famous novels

You should see Blade Runner. It's brilliant. Defined cyberpunk. . .and still looks fecking amazing.

Are you going to see the Definative version, Spooney? Its supposed to be the best print and most defined version according to Ridley Scott...who knows, but the sooner Ridely gets his ass into gear and does a commentary, together with a three disc dvd set containing both versions of the film, with about three days worth of extras and a blow job from Darryl Hannah in full costume, then I might think about parting with my money!;)

How much will the boxset cost? I'm thinking of getting a HD DVD player.

Which version do I watch then, Bellenda Carlisles?

I seem to remember asking this before, leading to Mehro having some sort of epileptic fit

Director's cut. That said, I think it's the only one available on DVD. Although, as Hammer's pointed out, you could wait for the new version. Which will be sexier than me without clothes on.

"Das Boot" written by Lothar-Günther Buchheim.

The miniseries that went on german television in 1985 that included scenes that were not in the original movie are fecking fantastic.

Kinell, that's pretty fecking sexy

But then you haven't seen me with no clothes on.

Shit...this isn't Spartacus, is it?

Back to Blade Runner...maybe wait for the sooper dooper new version, although when it will come out I'm not sure...it has a limited run in cinemas at the moment.

I watched a german film in a European history class and there was some minge in that too. The Jerries are good at slipping some gash in.

Well, I never knew it was based on a book...learn something new.

The miniseries was, I agree, even more superior to the film version...one of the best represenattions of WW2 that I can think of. Great shout!

Get Shorty was a good movie, and almost identical to the book. As was Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas.

My fave Stephen King adaption has to be Christine (although it looks a little dated now) but many of his books have not adapted well to the screen (ie: IT - which was really crap and Dreamcatcher)

I thought LA Confindential was aces, but Black Dahlia was utter pooh. I quite like some of De Palma's earlier films, but that was on a rubbish par with that crappy Mars movie he did. I have been trying to find the movie Cop - starring James Woods, as that was written (or at least based on the books of) James Elroy, the Lloyd Hopkins trilogy.

German television... does that count?

Although, I remember watching Heimat when they showed it on C4 back in the day. It was excellent... even some minge.

The movie "Das Boot" came out 1981. Then in 1985 there was a "Das Boot" miniseries which had scenes that weren't included in the original movie. I suggest everyone to watch this.

Yep, where they fall down on sense of humour, dress-sense, and war conduct, they go some way to redeeming themselves with their enlightened attitude to broadcasting women's fannies.

Jurgen Prochnow is in every German film. Just like that bloke who played Muriel's dad is in every Aussie film.

I found the book more or less unreadable which was surprising since I was hooked on the mini series.

Just thought I mention Lord of the Flies.... I think the film was good, watched it years ago but didn't finish reading the book so not sure of it....

What's the greatest thing minge-wise ever shown on telly?

Highlight for me was Les Valseuses... that was amazing, sorted me out for weeks

you liked the woman on the train didn't you?

you twisted little lactateophile monkey. Boob milk is for the babies, not you.

Anna Friels tits in that show about the cult.

Imogen Stubbs in The Rainbow.

Jane Asher getting her tits out was great...top MILF.

Friel and Stubbs were class, yeah. Never saw Asher.

The Camomile Lawn was obviously fantastic... Jennifer Ehle's tits were magnificent. But nothing comes close to that spell of playing French films that C4 went through... happy, happy days.

Claire Bloom got het tits out too, but I can't find it anywhere on't'internet.

I remember some unexpected tits in Tenko too.

I don't remember that bit :nervous:

Liar, it's the bit towards the end where they see a woman breast feeding a baby and force her to let one of them have a drink too.

amen to that, my girlfriend recently bought that on DVD and I can confirm it wasn't just the hormonal teenage boys eyes making them better than they were. Her tits were sublime (even if her voice was annoying). Although they do have one odd thing about them that I have only encountered once in real life and that is that her nipples were exactly the same colour as the rest of the tits. strange.

Yep.

I've never seen Blade Runner, but Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep? is a great book

Tell me it aint so? How can someone not have seen Blade Runner?

And I'd have called the book interesting if rather badly written.

The DVD containing all 5 different cuts of the film is released before Christmas including the new "real" Directors Cut and the original version(s) with the cheesy voiceover which I also like a great deal.

With you on that one. So far the Ellroy adaptations have been pretty much spot on.

American Tabloid is one hell of a book - and might make a terrific film if handled in the same way as L.A Confidential. Been trying to finish the Cold Six Thousand for about two years now...just get caught up in other things.

If anyone hasn't yet seen L.A Confidential then it comes highly recommended.

They fecked the film up though, the main villain doesn`t die in the book and appears in White Jazz.

The Cold Six Thousand is a good novel but nowhere near his best.

I`m not sure American Tabloid will ever get made - it shits on the Kennedys too much.

For me if i read the novel beforehand and really like it, its very unlikely that any movie can live up to that sort of expectation. There are a few exceptions only (e.g. clockwork orange, LOTR).

Had much expectation when i saw 1984. Thought it was decent but being based on one of my fav dystopian novels think it was a slight let down. Then again you watch tripe like Equilibrium which makes you appreciate other movies more.
