Also, Mourinho tried to buy him at Chelsea in January before they bought Costa the next summer:

All 38 goals for Napoli this season:

I think it would be an RvP esque signing.
Lethal, strong, good at holding up the ball and easily a 20+ goals striker in the league.

Only just turned 28, so we would have at least 2 years of his prime and more likely 3 or 4.

We should seriously consider him imo.

Would like him, wouldn't even mind seeing a 442 with him and Ibra Upfront. If that would ever work or happen...

I think it's either Hig or Ibra not both. Would love either here but a big factor is 1 is Free and the other is £40-50m worth. Both would be on 200k plus wages no matter what, but I think we will go for Ibra simply because he is a free transfer.

A front two with Higuain and Zlatan would put huge pressure on our defence i think. :D

Yeah, we are only going to buy one striker this summer. I'm just not 100% keen on Zlatan because of his age even though i know he is class, would prefer a younger striker.

Would love him here but Argi's never seem to do well for us.

"Van Gaal had him watched". I'd love to know how are transfer plans are being directed atm.

Also wonder how many players we'll be linked with before the summer is out.

Would much rather have Ibra on a free. Better player and cheaper.

Besides, the source here is the Mirror and it says that LVG is targetting Higuain.

Tevez? If we are playing with data I'd say Argie strikers have always done good with us.

To the point though, would prefer Ibra who is a better player

The Spurs of strikers.

I don't like him at all. He's not athletic. I don't understand how he scored all those goals. I would much rather have Ikardi from Inter. That guy is amazing.

He is slightly better than cheech just about. Also bit of a flat track bully. Don't want him and no he is not the all round player rvp was.

Not worth it. Many better options for what we would have to pay for him.

Great movement and good finishing is how Higuain has maintained a frankly awesome record since playing centrally.
Since 08/09 when he moved centrally
168 in 250 league games
201 in 343 in all club games
I'd say somebody who can put away chances and has good movement would probably suit us better than most options
I was one of the seemingly few people who wanted him last summer... That said he is now a year older and will probably cost quite a bit more but still a good option imo.

A flat track bully is what we need. We play rubbish teams more than we play good ones, and have at least equal trouble beating them as we do better sides.

A striker who scores loads vs weaker teams in the league will win you leagues. 'Big Games' are all well and good for television, but titles are won and lost at the Stadium of Light.

It's not like we can't score goals, though - we are really quite clinical. The style of play and lack of creative players are mainly what hold us back currently. We can't flat track bully currently because we barely manage to create openings.

He's miles better than Chicharito.

stats not up to date - but frankly his stats at Napoli only boost the arguments made

Keep in mind this includes some time playing wide in his early career as well but
Goals 221 & Assists 82 which is a very healthy ratio and 48 of those assists have come in the last 5 seasons when he has scored a more than healthy 133 goals
http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gonzalo-higuain/leistungsdaten/spieler/39153/plus/1?saison=ges
Ave mins per goal is 128 and 111 over his league career
Stats dont tell the whole picture but this is somebody who has performed at a high level for a long time and from what I see of him he looks like he could add a lot to our attack - though after the season he has just had I dread to think how much money he might cost

He is a good striker no doubt. The only thing that worries me about him is how he went from a top striker at Real to a bench warmer who couldn't hit a barn door with a banjo within two seasons for them. Makes me somewhat question his attitude tbh.

He's a hard worker and has scored tons of goals in Italy which is hard to do with their defending.

Great striker - certainly the best of the Serie A - whose market value is superior to €60m.

Cavani (Napoli) was sold to PSG for €63m.

His last three seasons at Real:

Higuain
12/13 a goal every 104 mins in the league and 139 mins in all comps (18 goals and 9 assists and total playing time 2494 mins)
11/12 a goal every 77 mins in the league and 101 mins in all comps (26 goals and 13 assists and total playing time 2630 mins)
10/11 a goal every 130 mins in the league and 127 mins in all comps (14 goals and 6 assists and total playing time 1780 mins)

So you are saying in his last three seasons he deteriorated that much?

For comparrison as he was competing against Benzema for the main strikers role most of the time:

Benzema
12/13 a goal every 149 mins in the league and 136 mins overall (21 goals and 21 assists and total playing time 2732 mins)
11/12 a goal every 94 mins in the league and 107 mins overall (32 goals and 19 assists and total playing time 3425mins)
10/11 a goal every 124 mins in the league and 105 mins overall (26 goals and 9 assists and total playing time 2869 mins)

Totals:
Higuain 58 goals & 28 assists in 6904 mins (a goal every 119 mins and an assist every 246 mins)
Benzema 79 goals & 49 assists in 9026 mins (a goal every 114 mins and an assist every 184 mins)

Honestly not much to pick between them in terms of goal record there and I think it must be a very small barn door your expecting Huguain to hit when you look at his last 2 seasons they are pretty good... its just that Real decided to go with one of the two and Benzema just edged him out

+ Napoli did need someone to replace the best scorer of Seria A - Edinson Cavani

He's a much inferior player to RVP at the time of the transfer. And Italian defending is an outdated cliche - just look at his goals this season. Defenders and also goalkeepers are mostly absolutely clueless.

Considering the potential price I don't think that he need him. Ibra is still a better player and will come on a free if we'll persuade him. Plus Higuain is almost exclusively a goalscorer, while I prefer more all-rounded forwards.

Not like defending in the PL has been so good either. Actually, Higuain's goals compilation looks quite impressive, plenty of good striker finishes.

One of those strikers where it's very difficult to argue against his stats, yet my perception when watching him is he's a very good striker, but not in the "top category". Also always seems to bottle it in the big matches.

For the money touted, I'd add a few million and try and sign another Martial type instead - young, potential. Like Dybala (though Juve wouldn't sell him) or pay Griezmann's release clause (again, complications etc.). I'm just using those 2 as an example.

One of the major reasons I wouldn't mind Ibra is because he's free and he's a short term solution - which seems perfect for Rashford's development.

Serie A used to be known for having the best defenders which isnt the case anymore. Also there seems to be another match fixing scandal going on

Ridicilious own goal by Consigli

Similar own goal at the end of last season

Suspicious as f..k :wenger:

He's had a great season and been a consistent enough striker over his career, his all round game is a bit limited though.

I should have put attitude in my post. Tevez was great for us. One of my favs, Too bad he went mental.

From some of the comments you would think he was playing in Norway or something.

It's Serie A ffs, still one of the best leagues around and he scored against everyone except Roma.

He is world class, that's what we need to put in a title challenge next year.

He'd be a great signing. If Arsenal had bought him in 2013 they'd have won the league again by now.

Think he is being a bit underrated here because of his performances for Real and Argentina but he has had a tremendous season for Napoli. Arsenal should have bought him when they had the chance. I don't want us to sign him when Ibra is available on a free transfer though.

Please no. He goes missing everytime I watch Napoli (though not a lot of matches) but scores when I don't. If we get him, I'll have to stop watching our games.

He was an undoubted success at Madrid. Played a pivotal role in their last two league titles and was one of the few who managed to consistently perform over that time. He had a couple of really fantastic seasons and no poor seasons. In 08-09 he was RVP-esque and in a 4 year period between 08-12 he scored in 81 goals in 118 league appearances. For comparison, van Nistelrooy scored 68 goals in 115 league games with us in his first 4 seasons and he's still revered here.

He was a success at Madrid but the stigma has to do more with his reputation of missing chances in big matches and looking inferior to Benzema at Real. Not fair to compare RVN to Higuain though, different eras and different sides. Real Madrid teams score a lot of goals, especially since Ronaldo got there.
