Gollini, Lezzerini, Madrigali and Capezzi from Fiorentina's U16s

I find the whole English pilaging of foreign academies pathetic and mind-numbing really. Techinically there isn't any case to answer but morally it's poor stuff and stinks to high hell of hypocrisy and self interests.
I agree. Shameful behaviour, kidnapping of the worst sort that - paying young footballers a very big amount of money, giving them a good education and offering one of the best training setups in the world to someone who wants to develop as a player.

You're talking like the boys have no choice in the matter, that they have to move if a foreign club comes knocking on the door.

generally I agree - but at the same time I can't help thinking "why the H... can't these countries change their legislation ?" I mean surely - even before this started, they must have realized what the consequences would be ?

I tend to agree, but the only thing that would change is that big clubs wouldn't go after talented youngsters because of the high associated fees. That would be good for the selling clubs, but poor for the player himself if you're just talking about his development as a player.

The problem with it is that clubs put time, money and effort into developing players, only to see bigger clubs come along and poach them. It's dishonourable behaviour and disincentivises clubs from investing in youth.

That was the rationale for introducing the 90 minute rule over here in England, though, which isn't too popular.

European Union. Free workflow between countries. Can't do what S-American does.

It's fecking nonsense to be honest. UEFA are trying and failing to get an exemption on French/Italian/Spanish employment legislation when it comes to footballer's and the club that trains them as a youth but can't ensure they reap the benefits by tying them to a pro contract until 17/18.

Rubbish. How the hell is United gonna get talent? No way they're getting much out of England. Have you seen what Young and Jones cost? That's the norm of getting English talent unless they happen to go to school near your ground.

Fiorentina could have given them contracts by now. If they did and the boys rejected what is there to do?

They don't leave completely on free. If he spends a certain amount of time before the age of 21 teams get compensation. I'm expecting they cost between a few hundred thousand and one million pounds at the end of it.

It's the Italians' own laws that ban them from offering contracts above a certain wage to young players, whilst we can pay more.

Hadn't heard about that law. That's quite...fascist of them.

The Italians have been the most corrupt and bent in football for many years. God knows in how many big games they have influenced referee's over the years. And I am sure they have possibly pilaged many South American academies among other places over the years. Did player cheating originate in Italy also? I would be surprised if it did. Its their Karma surely!!

So, it's clubs faults for taking advantage of laws in other places because the rules in England hurt their development of players. Italy, Spain, France, etc all pluck players from South America and Africa with much less regard for the players than most major clubs in England. Somehow it's objectionable for England to use its one advantage(lower age for contract) while others don't play by the same rules in terms of drawing talent.

Macheda might have been forced to quit football because Lazio weren't paying him and his parents could barely afford the daily trips to training and other expenses. United come along and give him a contract and help his parents find jobs, yet United are the bad guys in this?

Most Italian youth players are desperate to move abroad. Int italy they are not given a look in and usually end up languishing in lower divisions till they are 25.

At this point the top clubs realize that they actually are quite good ant go and get them.

As we reported yesterday here in The Gossip, Italy Under-17 goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini looks destined to join the Reds' youth ranks. Speaking at a youth tournament in Italy yesterday, he said: "With Manchester we can say that everything is already done. Soon I'll be leaving for England. I'm really happy because for me it's a new adventure and I hope to do my best."

Well he's only three years younger then our first choice 'keeper and he's Italian so thats a good signing in my books.

According to this statement by Fiorentina sporting director only this Gollini has agreed to join us

A statement on the club's official website read: "Fiorentina sporting director Pantaleo Corvino has taken into consideration the comments made by player Pierluigi Gollini and is surprised by his decision.

"He takes the opportunity to thank players (Niccolo) Fazzi, (Saverio) Madrigali, (Leonardo) Capezzi, (Federico) Bernardeschi and (Luca) Lezzerini, who have decided to remain with the Viola club, not being lured by false illusions of English sirens in recent days.

"Of the 150 players that have decided to go abroad, no-one has been able to earn a place in the first team."
