Golf 2025

Not half! Incredible mental fortitude.

Delighted for him. Watch him go now. Pressure and shackles are off, and having a fecking brilliant season already. Could easily win another 3/4 over the next few years. I love him.

The PGA is on at Quail Hollow next month which is undoubtedly his best course. He’s won there 4 times and holds the course record after shooting a 61, breaking the previous record which he held as well!

Then the Open is in Northern Ireland. This could be an absolutely massive year for him.

Ha! Same. JCL glory-hunter fist bump.
Some sports are quite moreish. Not golf. I feel like I’m all sorted on that front for the foreseeable unless Tiger is leading on the back 9 of the final day of a major or something. Might watch Happy Gilmore 2. Probably won’t.

Tune back in for the Ryder Cup in September. One of the best weekends in all of sport.

Indeed! Along with the Ryder Cup too. It's really could be an all timer of a year for him with the wins at Pebble, Players and now the Masters. So bloody exciting.

I hope he was doing that cutesy little finger wave at one of the old cnuts who interviewed him in the log cabin.

The 2nd on 15!! Just wow :wenger: .
When he holed the putt on the 18th and the crowd went wild there was one old bloke sat on his chair right at the front with his arms crossed looking rather miffed:lol:,iconic!!

I fecking love Rory, just needs a couple more majors to overtake Faldo, I can't wait.

It’s right up there with tiger 2019 for me, loved every minute of the final day and the finish was incredible

Can't imagine Trump who loves golf being happy with 2 people from the UK in the final of the Masters and Rory winning.
So expect a 100% tariff on UK golfers.

I had to give a sperm sample this morning so I just watched the 2nd shot at 15 to get me there

This was way more emotional than Tiger’s win in 2019, don’t think I’ve seen anything quite like this in sport. Maybe Aldaniti winning the Grand National, possibly Ali beating Foreman? Even a very patriotic American crowd were rooting for Rory over their compatriot, every single man woman and child present. Watching in NL I watched it in the CBS feed with Jim Nantz & co and they all couldn’t hide their emotions. A unique night that will live long in the memory to all who watched it.

I think it's bigger than that really, but I wasn't playing golf when Tiger was in his prime so maybe that influences my opinion.

Everyone making a big song and dance over him getting a green jacket. There were loads of people cutting about in them, even a load of old blokes. They're ten a penny.

Yeah I can see why it would be bigger if you weren’t following back then. For anyone who was I think it’s recency bias to say it. Tiger is the biggest name in the history of the game, his peak was much higher and his fall was much deeper. Nobody thought he’d come back and win another Masters, whereas with Rory he’s been in and around the leaders plenty of times in his drought. It really doesn’t compare in that regard. But Rory’s was incredibly magical too of course, and the quality and drama was probably higher.

Made in Vietnam, so their quite expensive nowadays those jackets in the US.

Probably a bit obscure that. And given his reconciliation with Erica and kid, this is history probably.

Bryson's (and LIV's) fans hate him with a fervor though.
Yeah maybe, more the women with long memories that hate him for that.

Woods had already achieved all you can possibly imagine in the sport, this is different. This is a new legacy created, and after all the pain of missing out all those years with all that spotlight on him, yesterday was sporting history.

Tiger's was just another major though, zero pressure compared to the grand slam being on your shoulders at Augusta for over a decade. I don't think Tiger has ever even had pressure like that, he just romped everything basically from the off for years.

The Michael Portillo looking twats.

My mate and I both said at the same time of his double putt feck up that it was the highlight of the day at that moment in time. Loved it
In saying that, they didn't even show hos eagle at 17, must have been a ridiculous shot

Tiger win in 2019 is way more unexpected, and a comeback story like that trumps what rory did IMO

I’m not a golf fan (at all) but surely the whole choker narrative made this a more compelling occasion? Especially when he came so close to choking all over again!

It did of course but the Tiger thing was huge for a whole different set of reasons. His fall was monumental, he was teeing off as 2/1 favorite or lower in most majors for years, and then his life collapsed, multiple injuries, surgeries and false dawns, he looked completely finished for a long time but found a bit of form coming into the tournament and pulled off a miracle.

And it’s Tiger, the biggest name in the sport and indeed one of the biggest in all sports.

Rory’s was incredible for all sorts of reasons. But he’s been favorite plenty of times, was 8/1 for this tournament and number two in the world. He climbed his biggest mountain just like Tiger of course, and the emotion was off the charts. You can’t really compare them properly as they are so different, in my opinion it’s just personal preference on which meant the most as a fan.

This. Both special for their own unique reasons. Chills e thinking about them both know. Can’t even begin to imagine the euphoria and relief both felt when they’ve won it.

Yes, it was special for Tiger and his fans, but it didn't change anything in golf history really. It's a nice story and it was great to watch, but he was playing with zero pressure on a course he had so much success at, it didn't get him above anyone else in majors, he wasn't completing anything in terms of milestone achievements. This was definitely bigger from an objective perspective.

Stopped reading after this. Ridiculous post

I’m sorry to be so blunt but it’s quite evident you just don’t know what you’re talking about

Why is tiger under any significant pressure for that tournament, outside of the normal "I'm playing in a major" type event pressure that anyone would experience whilst playing? Actually, it's even less than most would experience, because he's won so many of them. He was in his 40s, nobody expected him to win at all, he had 14 majors and 4 green jackets already. It's a great story, one of the best things to happen in golf in the last 20 years, but I just don't see how it compares to the McIlroy situation.

Natural successor to Tiger, one of the most naturally talented players to ever play the game. Storms off the blocks in his career and then cannot get over the line for over a decade in any major, let alone for the grand slam. He's left with the one tournament played on the same course every year, and over and over again he finds a way to throw years away, to a point where he looks like he will never close at a major again. He finally does it and does it at Augusta, to become the 6th person ever and 2nd person in like 50 years to do the grand slam, having to overcome 11 year's of scar tissue.

They're not like for like situations, but I just don't see how Tiger's is more historically important and as big at all.

This one stands out for me. Others are Tiger 2019, Faldo destroying Norman, and the Bear wining in 86 with his son as the caddy.
