Godwill Kukonki

Kwambala was an impressive physical specimen too, shame it never automatically translates into first-team quality but I hope this time it will be different. Godwilling.

Godwilling he will come good.

Jokes aside, he’s got the physicality needed for a quick route to the first team. He’s 6’3 and likely will grow to 6’5. This means injuries are likely very soon for that early growth spurt phase for kids. Will be interesting to see if can avoid that.

Inshallah he will be a success for you.

I was quite surprised to see him called up as his name didn’t really feature all that often in the youth teams discussions or the thread about Amorim promoting youngsters.

He’s looked really impressive in the 18’s and I didn’t realise he was only 16. Fingers crossed he continues to develop. I was convinced Tyler Blackett was a future United captain so not the best judge of talent

Regarding the bolded, it’s mostly guesswork based on very little.

Anyway plenty of youth players get to train with the first team. Especially during international breaks. Sometimes there’s a deeper ”purpose” but quite often it’s positional. So Amorim probably wanted/needed a LCB/LB from the academy and he got the chance this time.

I wonder if this was an internal recommendation or the manager has seen something he likes already? Physically he is ready, he can pass short and long when under pressure so ticks those boxes. Surely it’s just for numbers at the minute though.

Rhink Kwambala's issues were more technical than physical. Always looked awkward with the ball when in senior football.

He only saw the 18s a few times last year.

Has been fantastic as a 16 year old thus far playing both CB and LB. If he had more appearances people would be raving about him.

I've got no clue where the 6ft5 measurement came from because he just isn't that tall. At least a few inches shorter.

Yeah this doesn't seem much of a story just making up the numbers during international break. Good opportunity for the lad though.

I do wonder after Cubarsi will other top clubs also push in defenders earlier than they used to before?
