Glastonbury...experiences, thoughts and what are you looking forward to this year?

Any of you retards blessing the West country with your presence for this summers premier festival?

JUST GOT MY TICKET!

:wenger::wenger::wenger:

Woop woop

Anyways...

Anybody got any stories?

Seen any great acts? Might recognise a few off the DVD...

And what lesser know acts should i be seeing?

PEACE.

I applied for it but didn't hear anything from them.

You're only going to see Jay-Z aren't you, admit it, go on.

Been twice before; 2000, last year and i am going this year.

So Jay-z is not the reason I go to Glastonbury, no...

But...

I may well go and watch as Mark Ronson is on the decks for his set. ;)

Edit: Alternate version:

No bredrin, i is not guanin t tha glastonbree fo da Jay-z(izzle wizzle), mans is whack, u no wot mans is sayin? ireee

(I do actually quite like Jay-z tho)

Shit lineup this year, no wonder they can't sell out the tickets.

Very poor.

Should go to Reading. Its quality. Better than the middle of the road stuff they play at Glastonbury.

All the main festivals this year are pretty crap to be fair, same shit different venue.

I've been to the last few Glastonburys it's the best festival in the UK and possibly the world. I bought a ticket for this year but got a refund when I saw the lineup. I am now however thinking about buying a ticket again!

2002.

are you going to say its about atmosphere and getting pissed?

Not at all.

Of all events, places and mass gatherings of people; Glastonbury is by far the most friendly, diverse and discerning (people) of all festivals. Great atmosphere.

I am not enamoured with the "big bands", although Fatboy Slim and Kings of Leon will be getting some serious attention this year. What i most loved about last year was seeing Squarepusher with only 50 people, Stanton Warriors, The Klaxons and Pete Doherty on a small stage. Sorry, Marley brothers exodus tour was pretty special as well. Its very personal and i find people to be fantastically friendly and mostly cultured; a far cry from other festivals in the UK or in todays societies. The history, the purpose and the scenery is all very inspiring, it is not hard to come away with a different perception from the "Little Britain" portrayal of the UK today.

I dont know, maybe i am talking shit; i just feel this is slightly different from other gatherings of people or marketing obsessed cattle grids.

To an extent i understand what you are saying.

But have you been to Reading?

Yes, full of complete wankers.

Anyways...

I like relaxing while listening to music as well, a constant mosh isnae ma favourite pastime. Occasionally though, if the drug is right; i will be getting dirty.

fair enough i think we have a different taste in music.

I would steer well clear of download.

I had an inkling you were an Emo.

:)

 yeh.

looking at the glastonbury line up, foals are playing, quite like them.

I would not go anywhere near the ting tings or Will Young. Didn't realise he was still knocking about. Some shocking "artists" there, few decent mind. imo.

There's loads of bands who i have never heard of.

I will be making an effort to see...

Man Utd Chao

Atomic Hooligan

Freestylers

Example

Hot Chip

Kings of Leon

Massive Attack

Groove Armada

Sam Sparro

Seasick Steve

Shlomo and his...

Stanton Warriors with Utah Saints

Jay-Z

Raconteurs

Fatboy Slim.

I have a sneaky feeling that Linkin Park will:

a) Play with Jay-Z
b) Do their own set

or

c) Both

Which would be pretty good to see.

Im going and have been to the last 3. Though im not too excited this year. May be the weather at the last few and uninspiring line up.

fecking nightmare last year was, i have checked the weather report and it says good weather up until sunday, when it will rain heavily. I am praying for it to be dry for the previous week otherwise twill be a horrorshow, like last year.

Reading>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Glastonbury

Because

Rage Against the Machine + Metallica>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Jay Z + The Verve

Jay Z >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>The Verve >>>>>>>>>>>Machine + Metallica :D

I won't be going but I will be going to see Jay-Z in Manchester a few weeks later, been before he's great live.

Not a feckin hope in hell of Jay Z being better than those three bands. The only artists that could come close to that are the likes of Tom Waits - Springstein and so forth - Jay Z may be great in his own right but he doesnt have a patch on those three

In your opinion, my opinion is Jay-Z is better thats what's great about music people like different things. My main point is though I feel people are going to be pleasently suprised with Jay-Z's performance. The Verve should be good too, Richard Ashcroft is a brilliant song writer one of the very best, I remember when the Verve did Haigh Hall which is not far away from where I live I could hear quite clearly from a distance, always wished I went to that show it was when they were at their very peak.

Jay Z is a talentless armpit whose music only attracts clueless teenagers.

He's typical of today's generation of 'artists', or arse-tits as I prefer to call them - they sell utter shite to vulnerable teenagers who haven't a fecking clue what they're listening to but spend the cash in order to fit in.

Record companies are abusing the peer pressure exerted on kids in our consumer led society.

What they're actually buying is pure crap - cheaply produced dross which is derivative, formulaic and unimaginative.

The good bands are out there, but nobody takes a punt on them when there's easy money to be made exploiting easy targets - ie 12 year olds with their pocket money.

A passionate discourse.

Cant say i totally agree though; for me, Jay-Z is one of the very talented American rap artists, it is not my music of choice but i will not dismiss it as drivel. I would merely divest myself of the oppurtunity to appreciate somebody elses artform.

I may not react to Hip-Hop on an emotional level in the same way as i would listening to Pink Floyd, even so, i can listen and relate to his mode of expression.

That said, i think 50 cent is complete and utter garbage and i would be throwing piss and shit at the cnut if he were to be within range of my throwing arm.

One thing i do have against Jay-Z is his completely shite clothing line that has spawned off other shit clothing lines by black American rappers and in turn embedded itself inside many of the prevalent UK urban scenes.

I still had a great time last year despite the rain, but come Sunday afternoon i was knackered. Walking though the mud from one stage to another becomes a chore.

Dont think you can predict the weather that far in advance.

If I would have gone to Glastonbury I would have seen...

Editors
The Gossip
Kate Nash
Man Utd Chao
The Raconteurs
Crowded House
The Verve
Leonard Cohen
Goldfrapp
Massive Attack
Hot Chip
The Futureheads
Sons & Daughters
Lykke Li
Fatboy Slim
UNKLE

And if I would have gone to Reading...

Rage Against the Machine
The Killers
Bloc Party
The Raconteurs
Editors
Queens of the Stone Age
Mani Street Preachers
Justice
Simian

hmm, pretty good lineups on both..

You can and you cant.

I mean you can if you want to but you are likely to get it wrong, metcheck are running it as approx 3mm of rain over the weekend (average). Eavis says something about his Oak tree telling him that it will be the best weather ever.

I would expect a bit of both.

But...

I am hoping the shit weather at the moment will account for most of Junes rainfall and that the European monsoon season comes a bit earlier than usual. Most things that i have checked have been running it has very decent weather.

I agree with you about last year, how can you rave after carrying a set of wellys on your feet all day. Still, was great.

What an idiot, have you even listened to some of Jay-z songs? Talentless? clueless thats what you are. Go listen to Meet the Parents and tell me how a talentless person could do this off the top of his head? (he doesn't even write his lyrics down) Infact lets make this a little easier how can a talentless person start with nothing and be worth right now 600 million dollars? He is one of the most talented people in music today, he is on top of his genre of music and constantly makes great albums, 10 US number one albums to be exact only the Beatles have more. 12 year olds? this show your complete lack of knowledge. When i went to his concert over at the MEN arena there were no twelve year olds there and I am well past 12.

What you decided to do was generalise you thought hip hop music theres something I don't like so I'll just make up some bullshit maybe you were a part of some reject band? I don't know why but you are completely and sound like a complete idiot.

METALLICA. jesus dude, how could you have missed them off the list. There are loads of quality bands at Reading that many won't have heard of on here. Thrice are quality.

Well I bought a ticket again in the end. Time to start religiously checking the weather forecast! Really looking forward to it now actually.
