No videos above 240p though which is a shame.

Who's the guy 2nd from left don't remember him? I remember Wolf, Saracen and Cobra but the other guy doesn't look familiar

Shadow. He was awesome, but then got sacked for doing coke and steroids.

He was great, never blinked, always solid in nearly all the games from what I remember.

Think he's been in trouble with the law since

Thanks- just looked him up and it looks like he was removed before I started watching, so probably why I didn't recognise him, the first year I clearly remember was the Mark/Buster/Andrea year, although possibly would have watched one before that.

Would be cool if they had some of the favourite ex gladiators appear on this new series, even just show them in the crowd

Think he was nearly unbeatable on the one they swung weapons at each other while perched on things.

Can't remember what they called it now. Duel maybe?

Yes, that was duel with the pugil sticks!

The male blue contender was never 31 today by the way. Could've said 41 and I'd not have been surprised.

Shadow was unbelievable at Hang Tough and Duel. The power he could put into duel was amazing.

The Gladiators are all a bit crap at Gauntlet huh.

gauntlet is stupid.

The momentum to competitors take into it outweighs the basically static gladiators.

A new Aussie version has also just rebooted apparently. On Channel 10 so likely to tank.

I swear Gauntlet used to actually be somewhat of a challenge. They just walk through here

Also, not been a fan of either of the two new challenges.

Just had a quick look at the gladiators and their promos, this somehow looks even cheesier than the UK version

Quote likely. Aussie terrestrial tv can be terrible. So bad I haven't bothered repairing the anttena on my new place.

I mean you can't always win with these things as someone will have something to say either way, but it is interesting that all four contests have had 1 black and 1 white contestant.

I've watched both episodes this weekend and fecking LOVE it. It's so faithful to the original run and it captures that same sort of likeability that it had back then. I love that they haven't changed too much. The new games are great, too.

Sabre, Diamond and Dynamite.

Double quoted my post - here and in the "Posts that feel racist" thread. Well done. Do you have an actual opinion then?

I've replied to you in the more appropriate thread.

That’s one way of putting it

Michael Jefferson King, who's better known as Shadow from the hit 90s TV show Gladiators, was sentenced to six years and three months in prison on 27th August 2021 after pleading guilty to two counts of blackmail, according to The Mirror.
King, 60, admitted to threatening to hammer the said drug-user's legs and cut off his fingers when he tried to escape from being imprisoned in a flat and gagged and tortured.

Are you going to answer my question?
Check your question - "Why do that find that interesting exactly?" makes no sense.

Assuming you're asking why I find it interesting, it's because I do. Patterns are interesting and it is a pattern I noticed.

I thought the gladiators used to be harder to get past in gauntlet, I can remember people getting shoved over the sides. Now they're just easily brushed aside

I remember Lightning used to be queen of hang tough, she was rarely beaten

Have you watched the BBC before?

I'll tell you something else as well. All CIS contenders. Shocking. might not be true.

I was watching an American react to our classic series and, yeah, the Gauntlet used to actually be a challenge! You see how hard it was to get by Rhino who was first in line compared to the wannabe Wolf in Viper now and it's night and day

So what gives? Has the average Joe just become a lot more fit?
The big "pads" they hold are a clear disadvantage for the gladiators. Did they have those before or could they just grapple with their bare hands?

They had the pads, too! I think it's easier with the long stick one but, even with the two gloved ones, they were still hard to get past in the classic.

Have a look (I've timestamped it)

Alright. Nerd glasses on...

5 Gladiators in the 90's, 4 in the new one.
The poles are longer in the 90's.
The pads are smaller in the 90's. The new ones look really difficult to handle.
The Gladiators and Contestants are wearing what looks like bouncy material armour in the new, perhaps makes it easier to bounce and evade after the initial impact?

The walls aren't as high as the new one either

You make good points except the first one. I think they could have the whole cast out there for today's one and it wouldn't make too much of a difference!

I'm actually looking forward to the Gauntlet now just to see if anyone struggles

Finally a proper gauntlet!

Really interesting from Red Sky about how they used to have 5 gladiators and the longer pole, does the gauntlet itself look wider

Also don't agree they shouldn't be allowed to hold a contender in the pads, it should be up to the contender to get free!

The women gladiators just don't seem as effective bar probably Athena? TBF until tonight the male ones had been equally ineffective.

I remember people used to get launched over the sides. Do they pick gladiators who specialise in events?
