I´m just in the process of burning "where eagles dare" to dvd, i cant wait to watch it as its a brilliant movie.

i´ve decided now i want to get back into watching some of the great war films, so if you´d be so kind could you recommend me some your favourite classics.

meh

meh meh

now this i will download!! BHD is a good movie but not good enough to make it into my new collection

Meh for Full Metal Jacket? Its not only my favourite war movie but right up there for one of my all time favourite movies

And you say BHD is good. This makes no sense to me. Its an OK movie but is so Pro American its almost sickening

Full Metal Jacket.

Starts off well, then slows down dramatically. Apocolypse now for me was a bit of a let down, despite being a good film.

And you can meh all you like, but for the battle scenes alone, 'Saving private Ryan' has to be up there...

Another one. 2nd half of FMJ is superb. Apocolypse is fantastic too all the way through (unless you watched redux in which case I agree, all the extra stuff is piss poor)

maybe "meh" was too strong, FMJ is a good film but its not gonna make it into my sunday afternoon flopping on the couch film list.

my decision is final!!

Not sure I can agree, FMJ was a brilliantly dark portrayal of Nam. But after watching it once, It became tedious in parts, for me. Yeh, I watched the 4 hour long epic, which just seemed to go on and on. The opening credits with 'The doors - This is the end' are superb though.

I just love the opening battle of Saving Private Ryan, and as sat as that sounds, that makes it one of my faves.

A Bridge Too Far
Bravo Two Zero

battle of the bulge

Letters from Iwo Jima

I sat down the whole two and a half hours and not once did I look at my watch, nor did the film begin to drag. This is a true masterpiece and never have I seen a war film like this. Was so real like
To truly appreciate this movie, I will suggest that you watch Flags of our fathers first. It givens the opposing views of the American's while Letters from Iwo Jima gives the view of Japanese. Two individual films, but yet symbiotic in a sense. Clint is a hard bastard.
