Why the hell did willian not stop the ball on the goal line, get down on his knees and nob it in with his head??????? It has really annoyed me that he didnt do this. It would have been goal of the season.
 
I thought he was going to stop it on the line for Torres to smash home.

I once did that on a sand-based astro in a 7 as side. I over-balanced and sknned the bridge of my nose, right down to the bone. Still got a scar to this day. On my nose and my pride. True story.
 
I know you definitely can't do that as a way to pass it back to your goalkeeper - that counts as a manufactured backpass.

Somebody did that recently and it didn't get picked up - was it Steven Taylor at Newcastle?.

You can knee, chest or head a ball back to the goalie, so that makes no sense it would be a foul?

You can do it through normal actions in the course of a game - but inventing those situations is seen as trying to get around the rules.

Subject to the terms of Law 12, a player may pass the ball to his own goalkeeper using his head or chest or knee, etc. If, however, in the opinion of the referee, a player uses a deliberate trick in order to circumvent article 5(c) of Law 12, the player will be guilty of ungentlemanly conduct and will be punished accordingly under the terms of Law 12; that is to say, the player will be cautioned and shown the yellow card and an IFK will be awarded to the opposing team from the place where the player committed the offense. In such circumstances, it is irrelevant whether the goalkeeper subsequently touches the ball with his hands or not. The offense is committed by the player in attempting to circumvent both the text and the spirit of Law 12.

You're right though - it did happen in a game recently, and I remember making a comment on this forum about how it should have been a free-kick!

So is it talking about flicking the ball into the air and heading it back to the keeper and that sort of thing? Weirdly I don't think I've ever thought about the possibility before.

Thanks, so in what context could you be "tricking" ? I can't really think of a revelant scenario of how it could happen. How would they determine it was a natural action or a planned procedure :lol:

Not sure to be honest! I mean it's up to the ref's discretion... but yeah, I'd guess if the ball was on the floor and a player flicked it up to head it back that would be a foul? But if the ball was bouncing already and a player flicked it up and headed it in one movement that would be alright?

I do like these little rules/laws that exist within football but you never hear about because you never see them happen during a game!

Seems like a pretty conspicuous grey area, once you start thinking about it.

Any chance we could get:

- a compilation of the Hull players handballs throughout the game :lol:

Dunno if they're hard to make and take time, don't worry if it's a hassle!
