Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed Gervinho and Marouane Chamakh are close to moves away from the Emirates.
Roma are in advanced talks to sign Ivory Coast international Gervinho, while Premier League new boys Crystal Palace are thought to be chasing Chamakh.
Wenger is willing to let the pair move on as he looks to free up some funds for his own transfer plans, however the Frenchman insists there has been no movement on the future of another unsettled forward Nicklas Bendtner.
Eintracht Frankfurt have been linked with a move for Bendtner, but a move has fallen through for the Danish international.
Wenger admits he will know more on the possible transfers in the next 48 hours and he confirmed the deals for Gervinho and Chamakh will be permanent moves.
"Gervinho we are at the moment close to an agreement with a club where he should go," Wenger told the club's official website.
"Bendtner we are nowhere. At the moment he is completely here. Chamakh might go somewhere, it will be decided in the next 48 hours. [They are] permanent moves."

Two more panic buys gone. Making room for Luis.

Arsenal have done some brilliant business this summer. Finding buyers for the likes of Djourou and Chamakh is like signing Ronaldo, Bale and Fabregas in the same summer.

Gervinho is a strange player. He looked very good every time I saw him for Lille and was Ivory Coast's best player at the WC.

Gervinho's one of the worst big-club signings I can remember in the Premier League. It was clear from his debut against Newcastle that he wouldn't amount to anything. Bambi on ice.

Hey I'm all for defending a signing, but Gervinho cost "only" 10 million? That's like saying "hey, this pig shit I just bought cost me only about 10 quid!"

It's hard having a conversion with WUMS like you when you have an opinion based on nothing. Gervinho was hardly a shit player for them.

He was, largely, a very shit player for them. It's not a WUM, my best mate is an Arsenal fan and was furious with him basically every game he played.

His productivity is poor, and his footballing intelligence simply isn't there. Aye, he did wreak some havoc at times due to inpredictability, but his teammates were as much in the dark as his opponents were.

He'll go down as a terrible, terrible signing. Also, in Arsenal terms, £10,8 million isn't very cheap.

If SAF had bought them we would be placing them in the same breath as Djemba Djemba and Kleberson. The only difference being Wenger spent more.

Miller was a free transfer and Djemba-Djemba cost £1,5 million or something like that. Hardly comparable to Gervinho.

Chamakh is a decent comparison, a free transfer that didn't pay off.

Surely someone would be in for the (selfproclaimed) best player in the world!?

The problem with Bedntner is he thinks he's too good for the only clubs who would actually want to buy him. Turned down Hamburg because he wanted to move somewhere bigger, there's just no hope for him really, at 25 it seems its unlikely he's ever going to change.

Your best mate needs to check his footballing brain to be furious at Gervinho at every game. He had quite a few good games for them when I looked at Arsenal play. As I said his major problem was his finishing but he had the ability to get around and behind wing backs very well. That hardly seems like a lack of a footballing brain to me. He wasn't the best of players or wingers in the league but there are far worse players in the league as wingers than him.

There are far worse wingers than him in the league, but none of them was bought to be a starter for a team wanting to challenge for the title.

With those parameters set, I'd say he's pretty much amongst the worse I've seen.

I remember Gervinho in his first few months was completely overrated by Gooners, anyone can see he didn't have the talent for a top 4 club

Poor he may have been in a lot of games, but he was a whole lot better than Ashley Young or Aaron Lennon last season

I think Arsenal would take both over Gervinho, he was more of a hindrance than just plain average which was the case for Lennon & Young.

I think Gervinho will do better at a club with less pressure, very talented but I think he couldn't cope mentally. With our fans being fed up and being on his back that didn't help. Looked very promising in his first season, would go past players for fun but the end product wasn't there at all. He then went to the African cup in his first season and I think he missed a penalty in the final, came back a broken man and never recovered from that. He always gave his all on the pitch and I can't knock his effort, sometimes things just don't work so I wish him all the best.

Can't say I've got as many kind words for the like of Chamakh and Bendtner but our own fault for getting in this position.

I think we paid about £9.5mill and looks like he will be sold for about £7mill, so have recouped most of our money on him.

In fairness that's not a bad deal at all. More fool for Roma for willing to spend that much on him

Young and Lennon may have been poor last season, but both are hugely superior to Gervinho and have got credit in the bank from previous good performances in the Premier League.

Gervinho is just fecking atrocious and Wenger knows it, hence why he's ditched him relatively quickly.

I've held this view from day one and have been proven correct - https://www.redcafe.net/threads/gervinho.337474/

Abysmal player.

I think he will do fine there, this guy was very good in France and the likes of Hazard looked up to him when they were in the same team. Like I said I don't think mentally he coped at all with the move and it was a step too big for him. Some players are destined to be at mid table clubs and do well there and I think he is one of them.

Oh dear, that thread.
Yeah I don't think he's done too badly at all. With a flair player like him in your side you're going to get good days and bad days. Nani has them much less now, but Young/Valencia are on a similar level (I'd rate Valencia a bit above him)

Good signing.

Possibly.

I just think it's very interesting to see how happy Wenger has been to dispose of him quickly - he's normally more patient.

Gervinho's big problem is that his final decision/execution is virtually always wrong. He either falls over or picks the wrong pass/shot. For £10m, he really is rather rubbish.

Pete regularly took the piss out of PJS when he was here, but he was a far better player than Gervinho, and for half the price.

Credit in the bank? Gervinho was a much more effective player for Lille, does he get that credit or we're just going with Premier League here? If so then we shouldn't be buying good players from other leages then.

The idea of Gervinho being a really shit or abysmal player is just not accurate.

Firstly, the Premier League is a higher standard than Ligue 1, especially at the time Gervinho was plying his trade there.

Both Young and Lennon have shown themselves to be better players than Gervinho over the course of their respective careers. In Young's case, a poor season has made everyone forget how effective he was for a three or four year spell prior to that.

Gervinho's a bit useless, hence why Wenger's got rid. It happens, no need to get defensive.

Hardly being defensive. We can make a case for him not being effective a player as Wenger thought he'd be but I don't think as a footballer he was shit or abysmal.
