Geovany Quenda | Sporting CP player

I’m not massively convinced to be honest. Am I the only one who thinks he looks like he’s never in control of the ball in those clips? It’s always sort of either stuck under his feet or kicked way out in front at an awkward angle. He’s got a few nice nutmegs sure but his highlight reel looks very clunky imo
That's just from our away match against Braga. There's plenty of Quenda on YouTube.

What I like in Quenda is his physical traits, technical ability, tactical awareness and football intelligence , passing (look at some of his assists, specially his assist for Gyokeres goal against Citeh in the CL) and versatility since he can play multiple positions. Coaches like his humility and personality. His work rate and ethics is Ronaldo like. He gave up two weeks in his vacation so he would be ready for this season. He's obsessed with football and being a top football player. Although he earns very well now, he still lives at our academy with the youth ranks from our academy.

He can play as right wing back and RW or LW. He's very quick and can maintain ball control dribbling at speed. He can play in tight spaces, looking for quick passes and one twos so the team can break defensive lines. His movement is very intelligent, very direct with confidence.

What he has to work in? He has to work on his decision making and finishing but that's expected in 17 year old. In the final third he needs to improve his decisions and final pass. He needs to mix it up in his dribbling as well. He is always trying to cut inside to use his stronger left foot. Although he can shoot and cross with his right foot, it can make him predictable.

Defensively he needs to improve as well. He needs to be more incisive, following his player because Amorim likes high pressure without the ball. He's getting good advices and help from Inácio, Hjulmand and Daniel Bragança, so he's gradually getting better.

Obviously with 17 years of age, he's still work in progress. But I'm almost certain he will be a top player. His ability and mentality will drive him to a successful career. We have produced alot of exciting players in our academy, Ronaldo, Figo, Rafael Leão and many others and he's up there with the very best. Even those weren't as impressive as Quenda at 17 years of age career wise and in terms of accomplishments.

Oh btw he won't come for 40 millions. Ornstein doesn't know what he's talking about. Specifically regarding our financial conditions. With the amount of money we are getting (transfers and CL money) plus Quenda's reputation, the transfer will be in the region of 60 million euros upwards. There will be plenty of suitors.

He's a strange player to watch, he's clearly very talented yet he often looks like the footballing equivalent of Charlie Zelenoff. By that I mean, he's doing all the right things, but he doesn't look like he's ever fully in control of what he's doing. He seems to get the ball trapped under his feet a lot as well as some amateur level overcontrol. A bit clumsy essentially, but when he gets it right he looks amazing. Hard to work out if he's a majestic player that's just a bit over eager to perform and fluffs his lines, or he's a decent player with flashes of genius.

It's like when you see people that aren't used to sprinting, sprint at full pelt - they often sprint that little too hard and go head over heels. To me he seems like that and reminds me a little of Aaron Lennon when he was at Spurs and fairly well rated, the headless chicken effect. Darwin Nunez is a bit like it as well, can look World class one minute and the next it looks like he's the shapeshifter from Men In Black 2 that's inside a human form yet doesn't know how to control the body properly.

Really against the idea. Spending a huge chunk of our limited budget on a former player of the manager who is probably one for the future.

Our big scouting network and for some reason the best winger and striker they can identify are former players of the manager. It isn't credible. Build the squad properly and patiently and tell Amorim that he has to work with what the structure provides. Would help if they could get the structure fully set up for course.

Yeah, these "ones for the future" type signings are for when you already have a settled and winning environment. We need players that are going to come in and improve us now.

Many suitors? How many teams play with wing backs?

Then how many teams can afford 60m for a RWB?

I dont think there will be that many suitors, its not like he is pulling up trees at the moment.

Would they sell us him and Gyokeres because a striker is our biggest problem?

Any other options for strikers?

He isn't a wing back. He has been played there for sure but he isn't your traditional wing back player.

I don't think he was a wing-back originally, but a winger. Plus he's 17, so certainly teams will see him as a potential signing for a more attacking position.

I understand that. I still don't think there will be that many suitors at 60m to sign him.

We are seing that teams don't have that kind of money, yes you can see potential and talent, thats well and good, 60m you still want a player to come in and do the job now too.

He was playing U23 last season.

If Garnacho who is alot more experienced is valued at 60m with limited suitors, I doubt there will be teams queueing for Quenda.

He is a winger that was adapted to play wing back. Teams will be signing him as a winger

I'd keep both

Seriously now, I think next year it will be max clear out and rebuild year for us. Specially with our new manager who is slowly cutting from Amorim influence and identity. We now play in a completely different tactical setup and he will probably want new players for that.

Gyökeres, Quenda, Diomande, Inácio and possibly Hjulmand will all move. Some only stayed because they were swayed by Amorim, others are promised an exit at the end of the season and finally there are players that already reached their full potential at Sporting and the portuguese league and will move on to bigger challenges and higher profile leagues.

I'm surprised there are no rumors regarding Hjulmand. After a very strong first year, he has been probably our player of the year this season. He's my favorite player by far and it's unsurprising he's already captain in only his second year. An incredible professional player, always fit, tireless, great mentality and technical ability. An asset for any squad and dressing room. He's my the first player on any starting eleven.

We will be minted and will be tough to negotiate. Let's see if Hugo Viana tries to take someone to Citeh. United should be aware of that.

Those are 5 outstanding talents and if we sell Rashford in the summer....i could see 3 of those 5 being our top targets

I understand that, few posters have said that but in a market where young wingers are going for less, Niko Williams has a release clause, Kvar was 60m, Garnacho is 60m... I dont see how there is a queue of teams waiting to sign him,

You didn't look stupid mate, not al all. I actually agree with your assessment regarding that video. It was a tough away fixture at Braga, the hardest besides the big three and after the City CL match, so it wasn't the best Quenda showing. Hjulmand, Morita and Conrad Harder were better in that match.

At 17 years of age he has flaws in his game as I've said in the previous post but the potencial in him and what he achieved already at 17 years of age make him an incredible prospect. Youngest to score against Porto and Benfica, youngest to start for us in CL (got practically a full campaign of experience at 17 years of age), been MoM in Portuguese league matches, one of the most consistent players of our season at 17 (we are 1st in the league and passed group stage in the CL) and already called to our main National team. Plenty to be excited about Quenda.

He's not primarily a wingback. Amorim turned him into one. With our new manager, he has been playing as RW and LW. His performances as LW have been very good and encouraging.

There are rumors Barcelona and even City are keen on him as well. City because of Viana and Barcelona since they consider him a potencial portuguese Yamal.

Now is he worth the 60 millions? I don't know. What I do know, that because we are going to sell 2 to 3 players (Gyökeres, Diomande and possibly Hjulmand) for big money, it will put us in a better position to negotiate since we won't be cash strapped. It's a matter of conjecture. Now if after selling all those players, you want another one of our top performers, it will cost you. We won't lose one of our best players, with the most potencial at 17 years of age for 30 or 40 millions that's for sure. Whether there are clubs that will pay that remains to be seen.

Going to be many clubs exploring the same deal I should think.

Advantage United might have is the Amorim effect. And being the biggest club in England of course. We’ll be in the Champions League next season too, no doubt about that

However, can’t they just sort the deal now and loan him back for 4 months?

Fair enough, I must admit I dont know too much about him and didnt really hear about him prior to about 2/3 months ago.

I still wouldn't say I know much about him, its it interesting that he is a LW now, would be good to see how he fairs for the remainder of the season in that position.

It depends if HJulmand or Diomande will leave before Quendo though? Gyokeres is not a big issue for teams because he has a release clause so everyone knows what it will be to sign him.

Be quite interesting how Sporting develop over the next few years with another rebuild.

I get the impression there are doubts about Gykores - the links with him have died off a bit + Arsenal seem to have gone off him despite having the money to get him. That league looks like fast, big athletic guys can flatter to deceive a little (Nunez hit similar numbers to him).

First thing is he's 17. Yes he can look a bit raw at times, almost all 17 year olds do.

When he was playing for Portugal in I think it was the u17s euros in 2023 (If thats the one with Moore scoring lots for England) I was only impressed by his speed, although I wasnt impressed with the other Portugal players either.

However for Sporting's first team he has done impressively given his age. £40-50 million sounds expensive for what hes done so far and even his potential. I like him as a player but I dont personally see him being a top winger in the future. I think he'll be a good one. And the main thing is he's willing to play wingback for his team. I do think theres a chance that if a team, for example us, go and buy him for £60 million or something he could be a bit like Antony - although he's faster I dont think he's out of that bracket of technical skill level.

That's alright mate. Only Sporting and portuguese football fans fans knew him because he was was highly rated in Sporting and Portugal NT youth ranks. He had hype in terms of technical ability like Ronaldo, Figo, Quaresma, Nani, Rafael Leão etc. These wing/attacking players from our academy always have the most hype.

Gyökeres and Diomande will leave before Quenda for sure. Hjulmand and Inácio it depends on how we finish the season and our ambitions for the following one.

The LW experience has been recent. In the last CL match our equalizer was achieved by a great play in the left wing by Quenda and João Simões an 18 year old as well. The work by our academy in promoting players is outstanding.

Our next rebuild will be painful. Everyone knows that after this season alot of players will move. Some out of promises, other because they achieved all they could at our club and in the portuguese football. Not looking forward to what will be a difficult next season for sure. This team has been one of the best in our history.

That's probably why we're trying to wrap this deal up early
