George Best - R.I.P

Ive posted this once before on another thread but its worth it for those who never saw it.

True story too.

A number of years ago George came to New Zealand on some sort of promotional tour. The tour coincided with a friends 40th birthday. The friends name is Andrew Fraser but we all call him Joe because of the boxer. Joe happens to be a life long diehard Liverpool fanatic.
There was a dinner event put on at which George was speaking and doing the whole autograph signing thing. So a couple of friends went to the dinner and took along a photograph of George to get autographed. They got to have a quick chat with George and asked him if he would autograph a photo for Joe's 40th birthday. they explained to george what a huge Liverpool fan Joe is.
George autographed the photo and a few days at Joe's 40th, his friends gave Joe the photo in birthday wrapping paper. Joe opened it up, found a photo of George and on it George had written, " feck off Joe".

Its Joe's prized possession and hangs on his wall beside a photo of Joe at Anfield.

Georges brilliance transcends club rivalries.
 Excellent.

My favourite Georgie Quote:

I went missing quite a lot...

Miss England, Miss Wales, Miss World...

Says it all really ....

Cheers Red Hand Devil, I checked out the price of some of those shirts that have actually been signed by some of the stars of today .. If that is any guideline I`m certainly not parting with it. I was hoping for a family holiday, not a pair of new school shoes for the kids.

I never got Besty`s shirt signed because I think our lodger (Eric Young) nicked it from the dressing room & as a kid I was absolutely terrified that he`d ask for it back. There must be some way of matching the style & label to prove it was his team shirt though. I might try the museum.

You are right though it is an heirloom to cherish. It gets put up with my lucky silk scarf as a charm when United are involved in the big games. Didn`t fecking work for Rome & Wembley though!

The more time that passes the more the term "legend" seems to apply to George. His whole persona on & off the pitch coupled with his natural genius has never been seen since (.. although Eric comes close) It was real life fantasy football that he gave us.

I have his number 7 shirt given to me by United lodgers we had staying with us (circa 1971) Its an original Umbro plain round collar & cuffs. I`m sure the label would authenticate it. Does anyone know how I would go about getting this valued? I always said I would never part with it but I am seriously potless & it`s about all I have that I reckon is worth anything.

I know several matchworn shirt collectors. I'll PM you.
