Gelson Martins

Martins was excellent at the Bernabeau from that clip to be fair.

Personally, I've always wanted us to take a punt on Adama Traore, in terms of young right wingers. He hasn't had the best time since he's come to England, but what he has cannot be taught. He probably completes the most dribbles per minute in he league, and is absolutely blistering with great physique too. He's had a good Barcelona education and if he is rescued before he festers at relegation fodder for too long, he can be turned into a top player I think.

I'm a big fan of Adama but Barcelona have relinquished their role as educators and now outsource youth development to other clubs in very haphazard ways. Supposedly Adama pushed for the Aston Villa loan due to the paycheck and now moved to a very uninspiring Karanka at Middlesbrough. I worry about his development considering how poorly it has gone thus far, can't be easy on a young kid having left the comforts of his hometown club

His pace, power & Barcelona background should produce better results soon. Hope he gets the chance

I know its only the Faroe Islands but this kid looks amazing tonight when he came on. Two assists(the last from a brilliant bit of skill) could well have had a hat-trick of assists with better finishing and looked lively throughout his late cameo.

Hope we're in for him as he looks like a potential top class winger/forward.

With rumours that Memphis is on his in January, I think he could be a target. Though we seem to keep buying wingers (ADM, Memphis, Mkhi), hopefully one of these actually works out. Leon Bailey is the other one I hear we're watching, both very similar in style.

He had few good chances tonight against Dortmund but his finishing shot and timing is really bad. Needs some work in that department.

His decision making is still a bit poor. I guess he will get there but he is still a very frustrating player atm. Reminds me of Nani sometimes. He will learn, evolve with experience and playing time. Having a positive season só far nevertheless. I wish Jorge Jesus would give a chance to Matheus Pereira. I rated him higher than Gelson last year. Stuborn manager. Starting to understand the frustration my Benfica fan mates used to have in relation to his management of academy players. I sincerily hope Matheus won't be our "Bernardo Silva".

Pretty much true. He is definitely a big potential but still raw, like you said frustrating.

His speed and pace alone is enough to give a headache to any defender even if he's having a bad day.

Shame Nani never reached his full potential. When he was motivated he was a world beater.

Watched him for the first full game against Madrid last night.

You can tell he has some improving to do, his decision making could be better. What he does have though is great pace, works very hard in both attack and defence, and is direct.

As soon as he gets the ball he's looking to run forward and attack the fullback or cross. Marcelo didn't know whether to shut him down or stand off.

I don't think I would pay anything more than 20M for him at present, but he's got huge potential. Reminds me of a more agile/less strong Valencia.

We're being linked with a lot of Portuguese players but they're in positions we need to strengthen with Neves and Semedo as well as Gelson.

Of all three though it's Neves I'd most want as he could genuinely be the perfect player to replace Carrick long term, if we could get another season out of Carrick and slowly integrate Neves as his replacement Neves could be a great player for us.

With Gelson I just worry as for Ronaldo we also had Nani and Bebe and from the videos Gelson has the same pace and technical attributes as Nani but he'd need to have a end product to go with them, looks great potentially though.

I don't get the obcession the english have with Ruben Neves. Your media loves him that's for sure. He needs to stay at Porto and develop.

Gelson on the other hand is ready to jump to a bigger club. I'm not sure he'll ever be as good as Nani, but he'd bring you some irreverence that you're currently missing. He would do well in the Premier League.

I would take Nani in our team any day of the week ATM tbf.

When I think of Nani and Chicharito I curse the day we appointed LVG, feck him, he dumped a lot of good players and saddled us with average Joes like Memphis, Morgan and Darmian.

Throwing Nani and Bebe into the same category is insane.

When we sold them that's exactly what they were, In fact they still are.

Bollocks. Chicha is scoring goals for fun and Nani was probably the best player for his country and pivotal in them winning the European championship. They weren't first choice maybe, but to say they're average joes is wrong.

Thing is a lot of English media were exactly the same with Carrick back in the day as a lot of what he did/does flies under the radar, it's only in the past few years Carrick has got the credit he's mostly always deserved and I'd give my left nut to go back in time to bring Carrick in his mid 20's through to now.

Throwing Nani and Bebe into the same category is insane.

Didn't mean to compare them as in they were the same, simply comparing them against Ronaldo and right now I'd take Nani back in a heartbeat as looking back now he wasn't as bad as I thought at the time.

To call anyone of these players avreage joes are wrong. The level between the former and the latter though is not that big. Schneiderlin was one of the best midfielders in the PL, Memphis was scoring goals for fun in the dutch league and was becoming a key player for his national team and Darmian was one of the italian leagues best defenders and a regular for the italian national team. Its not the same to perform for teams like Southampton, Bayern Leverkusen, Torino, Valencia etc compared to performing for United.

Chicarito I agree with to a degree more than Nani but he wouldn't stay as a sub for ever. And we have better strikers than him at the club.
Zlatan is right now being widely deemed not good enough because he doesn't do enough apart from scoring but people wish we still had Chicharito. It's mind boggling stuff. Nani couldn't string two decent performances in his latter years for us yet after three seasons of decent performances, playing for nothing teams, he's looked at as some kind of martyr. They've just found their level, that's all it is. If they were still here it would've made no difference whatsoever for our current predicament.

Pretty much spot on.

Just saw a report saying Mourinho wants to replace Depay with Gelson.
I think it was from A Bola who are the newspaper that made up the Gaitan rumours every single window. So I'm not sure, based on that, there's anything in it.

No thank you, no more punts.

Either proven upper echelon quality like Zlatan, Pogba and Mkhi, or absolute top tier talent like Martial.

We're that close to building another great team and we've seen what buying from the top shelf has brought us, so let us continue with that.

Total bullshit, much better wingers out there, we dont need to go fishing in the Portuguese league for that department. Plus 50m pounds is his buyout clause, no thanks, we could get Perisic for that money, and he seems a bigger priority

Which will be great for the team!!!

Yup. I don't think he'll risk the move this year with the World Cup at the end of next season and unless a crazy offer comes in we would be better off selling some of our other players. We just need to manage to buy some good defenders and I think we'll challenge for the title next season.

he reminds me of cuadrado. Fast nimble but weak. Not sure of him in the PL

Having not known much about this kid until the summer I decided to make an effort to keep track of him every chance I got as I believe he will go on to do good things,

Hes lightning fast, mobile, skilful , wants the ball all the time, direct and reminds me of Nani when in 2009/10, check out these runs :wenger::wenger::wenger:

He's in poor form at the moment although that's probably because he's very tired like most of our squad, incredible technical ability and dribbling but the decision making is inconsistent. It doesn't help that our attack isn't looking very fluid.

He'll definitely move to a bigger club sooner or later and it might make him go up a level but it would be a gamble for the top clubs, an expensive one too.

Also, the video isn't working :(
