I'm more interested on what is happening from 18th - 20th, but I wonder what announcements we can expect. Sony is the only one of the main hardware/software players holding a conference, and they have said that they held certain stuff back from E3 for GC and TGS. Microsoft and Nintendo seemingly have already blown their loads.

Here is the schedule for the conferences in CET on the 20th, so deduct an hour for British time. We'll see about live streams (if there are any, if not blogs) when it gets closer to the event.

08:15 AM - 08:45 AM GC opening press conference
09:00 AM - 09:45 AM Electronic Arts
09:00 AM - 09:45 AM JoWood Productions
10:00 AM - 10:45 AM Intel GmbH
10:00 AM - 10:45 AM Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH
11:00 AM - 11.45 AM Digital Publishing
11:00 AM - 11:45 AM Ubisoft
12:00 PM - 12:45 PM Disney Interactive Studios
12:00 PM - 12:45 PM Turtle Entertainment
12:00 PM - 12:45 PM CDV Software Entertainment
01:00 PM - 01:45 PM Koch Media / Deep Silver
01:00 PM - 01:45 PM ProSiebenSat.1 Group / SevenOne Intermedia
02:00 PM - 02:45 PM Activision
02:00 PM - 02:45 PM GOA
03:00 PM - 03:45 PM Atari
03:00 PM - 03:45 PM Midway Games
04:00 PM - 04:45 PM Public Solution
04:00 PM - 04:45 PM DTP Entertainment
05:00 PM - 06:00 PM Sony Computer Entertainment Deutschland GmbH

We especially saw very little from Sony's European studios during E3, but some was there. Might we see something from Naughty Dog?

Can't wait to find out what the FIFA 09 exclusive mode will be.

Typical, I'm working from the 20-24th on the evening shifts so I'll probably miss most of it.

Hopefully it will improve upon E3 and Sony will stick to their promise that they have left some announcements for GC and TGS.

Oh, and my opening E3 post was better:p

At least I gave a schedule with times and dates for the meat.

At least I copied and pasted from IGN, with fancy fonts and hyperlinks:D

Oh, I think that Nintendo will have something for TGS. And Sony fans moan about Sony not paying any attention to Europe?

I replied to your e-mail by the way.

Sony don't give a shit about us Europeans. The sooner Reeves is out the better.

Sony are treating GC08 as one of their major announcement events.

They will make 12 never-before-made announcements during their keynote.

The Leipzig Games Convention takes place between the 20th and 24th of this month, and right after E3, Sony hinted that we should be prepared for more in the way of big news and unveilings. Not surprisingly, they're the only one of the "Big 3" who will have an "official showing" at the conference.

As Ripten reports, the notable games on the list are obvious, and one of the biggest titles is Quantic Dream's Heavy Rain. We've been wondering about that game for most of 2008, and it's great to hear we'll finally see the game...perhaps as it was meant to be seen. No more rumors, leaked screens, or quick, inaccurate reports. Also, we see the likes of Resistance 2, LittleBigPlanet, and InFamous. Here's the full list of what Sony plans to bring to Leipzig:

  • MotorStorm Pacific Rift
  • LittleBigPlanet
  • Resistance 2
  • Free Realms
  • The Agency
  • DC Universe Online
  • Infamous
  • Home
  • Killzone 2 (single player and multiplayer hands-on)
  • Heavy Rain

These are top titles, to be sure, and we can't wait to learn more about them in less than two weeks time. There's no doubt that the latter part of 2008 is loaded with plenty of huge games for all platforms, but Sony looks to lead the way heading into the holidays. Only time will tell...

Finally we'll get some more info on Heavy Rain. Media Molecule are supposed to have a surprise in store for LBP aswell.

Sony plans no PS3 price cuts at Leipzig games fair

BERLIN (Reuters) - Sony Corp (6758.T: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) does not plan to announce price cuts to its flagship PlayStation 3 games console at Europe's biggest video games fair in Leipzig, Germany next week, a company spokesman said on Friday.

"It's not going to happen. If you're coming for that you'll be disappointed," Sony Computer Entertainment spokesman Nick Caplin said.

In the 12 months ending March 31, Sony sold 9.24 million units, below its initial estimates of 11 million sales.

But in an interview with Reuters on July 16, the company's video game chief said the firm was on track for the current year's target of 10 million sales.

Cuts to the Playstation 3's original high price have helped boost its fortunes in Sony's three-way battle with Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) and Nintendo Co Ltd (7974.OS: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) in the global video game industry.

Sony ruled the video game industry for about a decade from the mid-1990s with its original PlayStation and PlayStation 2.

In the current console cycle, Sony has found itself in an unfamiliar position, trailing Nintendo's Wii and competing neck and neck with Microsoft's Xbox 360 for second place in monthly sales in the United States.

I'll be very surprised if there isn't one in time for Christmas.

They seemingly give more of a shit than Microsoft and Nintendo do.

Wrong. Neither company particularly gives Europe good treatment, but Sony are just plain awful:

Banning Lik-Sung and ebay imports to prevent European gamers getting their hands on gear and games early.

Making sure that the Europeans wait several months before releasing the console itself (European gamers only had to wait a few weeks more than US/Japanese gamers for the 360 and Wii)

Not offering the Europeans a choice of models unlike Microsoft. Its only now than the Europeans get an equal deal.

How could you possibly say that Sony care more? Thats simply the fanboy inside you speaking.

I actually prefer one model rather than multiple, I think that is what has helped Nintendo do so well. It isn't confusing gamers with multiple models of a console, each of which has different features. By having one model the consumer isn't get confused and know what they are getting for their money.

And the £159.99 model from MS is pretty much shit anyway.

Region locked games?

They didn't have enough of them, simple as that.

SCEE thought that it was a waste of time and bad business. There is only one model worldwide now in any case, so SCE as a whole obviously finally figured out that was the way to go.

I never said "care", and you need to learn the meaning of context instead of prattling on like some villiage idiot.

The whole idea of models though is so the console can appeal to those with a range of budgets. Yes the 360 core consoles were rather shite but at least it let gamers pay peanuts to play 360 games. In fact Sony did offer this kind of variation in Japan with the 20gb models and earlier in the US with 40GB and 80GB for those with larger budgets. I just dont understand why Sony couldnt offer the same thing in Europe.

Up till now we've only been offered the 60GB version wich was overpriced for many and then that was replaced by the much inferor 40Gb version which just made people look for the 60GBs again as if they were rare contraband. The funny thing is that had Sony released 20GB or 40GB PS3s in Europe near its launch period then it would have definitely sold more consoles by now. And what about that period when European PS3 consoles were the only ones without b/c...what was up with that?

Do we have to go over this again?

And just a note, it is Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE I have always been critical off, the sooner Reeves leaves (That rhymes:D) the better)who give us a hard time not Sony.

So the only difference between the 40GB and 60GB models are HDD space.

Right...

No, you said much inferior which it isn't. The 40GB is being upgraded to 80GB, so you are gaining space. The only thing you lose is the memory card slots and of course Backwards Compatibility with PS2 games, But I have played 1 PS2 game for a few hours in all the time I have owned a PS3.

The 80GB model is still a very, very good console and for very good value at £299.

RedKaos doesn't even understand basic economics (then again trying to discourse with him is like talking to a brick wall at times). The original models were too expensive because of what they cost to produce (and they were still losing money on every unit sold), and that was having a knock on effect in terms of sales. To get the price down they decided to remove everything that wasn't essential to make it a PS3 and at the same time introduce 65nm Cell which also brought other savings. The 60GB launch models were over engineered - just look at it like that.

GTI Club+ revs up for PLAYSTATION®3

Classic Konami coin-op heads to PLAYSTATION®Network in massively retuned Euro-created HD update

Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH will release a completely updated and enhanced version of its popular GTI Club arcade game for PLAYSTATION®3 via the PlayStation Store this November. Entitled GTI Club+, the game boasts all-new HD visuals and widely expanded gameplay elements.

GTi Club+ has been initiated by Konami’s European Product Planning department and marks the first next gen game for this European R&D facility. The original arcade game was released to huge acclaim in 1996 and was a fun and manic free-roaming racer featuring four styles of rally car and a unique handbrake feature for sharp turns. GTI Club+ retains the open element of the original, but has been totally reworked in every aspect. Running at 720p at 60fps, the new game has all the modes of its arcade forebear, but takes the race online, allowing up to eight people to compete simultaneously.

The new game has been overseen by Konami’s European Product Planning department and developed by SUMO Digital Entertainment, and has been designed to boast all the content and add-ons expected of a next gen title. GTI Club+ brings the arcade game bang up to date with incredible visuals and speed, with the option to customise the various cars with bespoke paint jobs and decals. The original game’s four cars have also been expanded with a number of vintage and modern vehicles added to the roster.

In game, GTI Club+ also utilises a rear-view mirror for the in-car view, and a Sat Nav system to help traverse the open nature of the huge courses. Dizzying replays of key action, 5.1 sound including a remix of the coin-op’s music by Atjazz, and player-to-player voice comms also add to the camaraderie as players compete against each other. The game is also compatible with Sony’s Eye Toy HD, allowing users to see their rivals as they play.

With a full set of modes, including Free Run, Arcade and Bomb Tag, GTI Club+ sets a new standard for downloadable titles. Die-hard racers can test their mettle via worldwide rankings, while Konami is committed to expanding the game via regular downloads.

“GTI Club+ brings the fun back to racing games and offers incredible value for money,” commented Dave Cox, Head of Product Planning for Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH. “It is the most ambitious and expansive addition to the PLAYSTATION®Network to date, and brings one of the most exciting coin-ops of yesteryear bang up to date with stunning HD visuals, all new in-game elements and the ability to add new elements to keep the gameplay fresh.”

GTI Club+ will be released for PLAYSTATION®3 via the PlayStation Store in November, price TBC.

Ronaldo looks superb in that screenshot. Maybe Konami has done some work!!.......

Gotta admit Ronaldo looks really good in that shot.

Any news on FIFA09 or Gears Of War 2 yet, Weaste? EA event should have taken place.

They're the PES screens that were released a few weeks ago. They are just high res versions.
