Gaston Ramirez

Thats the problem with these threads. Like the Mata to Barcelona one last year, or the Cazorla to Arsenal one this year. People dont post sure fire sources so we get these threads where we're told someone is going somewhere, we speculate about how well he'll do and if he's worth the money, and then he doesnt go there.

Welcome to life.

Now we have wankpots watching twitter and @bellend who is apparently an ITK spouting shite.

Gone are the days when you opened the paper you read the article and then you closed the paper and talked to your mates about it. Now it goes all over the world and nobody has a clue what is happening yet somehow players have signed and have moved and agents have spouted shite.

It's ruined the last two windows and it's going to continue unfortunately.

This is really amusing coming from you. Considering you've been the sole candle keeping the Banega thread burning despite no shread of evidence of our interest over the last few years.

Can you please quote from that Banega thread where I said he'd be going to United.

Thanks Miss Thepoint

So that article states that United,City,Barca,Inter,Spurs and Milan are all interested yet Ramirez might end up at a midtable English club? antohan mentioned his agent being dodgy I bet his agent made up the stories about the top teams being interested in his client hoping one team will swallow the bait and sign Ramirez and of course that club seems to be Liverpool...

All because they have signed a couple of Uruguayans already. I cant see him going to Liverpool if he is offered a CL club.

How did you come to that? Have they even been linked? He'll cost £10m+ and Swansea can hardly afford that. How they'll attract him anyway when he could play for a much bigger club?
It's just a hunch. He is the type of player Laudrup likes and when Allen goes he will have the money to go for and tie the deal up. Personally I don't believe he is quite ready for a big club yet.

Amongst big clubs only a team like Liverpool would risk going for him.

That's an awesome signing for them. Where the feck are they getting all this money from? Didn't they spooge 7m on Jay Rodriguez?

Surely pool / tottenham will step in at that price?

It's only 11M GBP as well. Surely someone will match that?

According to the Italian media Inter and Juve were turned down by the player because Gaston wants a regular first team role.

Such a random transfer, and I questioned Chief when he said that he would move to Swansea. He'll move to fecking Southampton!

He probably wants to be Billy Big Bollocks at a club like Southampton. Any bigger a club and he'd be Timmy Tiny Testes.

I'll get the coat.

Good signing for S'hampton! Liverpool in a year or two will pay more than £20m for him because they missed out on him this time.

Probably, and I think that's a good call. I´m tired of seeing young players with reasonable potential go to Juve/Milan/Inter and rot in reserves or being loaned around.

It's not stats-based but from memory of the last 20 years or so none of the Uruguayan players whose first move was to those, or Madrid/Barca ever made it. Forlán would probably fit there but was lucky to get a second chance at Villarreal. Recoba would be the exception, and I would argue the loan at Venezia saved him + Moratti had a man crush on him + he had the potential to have been much better but Inter never pushed him out of his inconsistent comfort zone.

The players that seem to have developed best recently:

  • Cavani and Hernández at Palermo then Napoli
  • Suárez at Groningen and Ajax
  • Pereira at Cluj and Porto
  • Caceres was crashing and burning at Barca. Sevilla got him back on track
I think it is an intelligent move for Ramírez. He recognises he won't get much better at Bologna and wants a new challenge, while appreciating how lucky he was to be assigned an important first team role by Bologna.

Good on him, wouldn't mind more young players approaching things with a long term career development view, instead of being obsessed with becoming rich and famous by 20.

Southampton spend last few years rebuilding after financial troubles/administration. Finally manage to get back into the Premier League, and then start spunking money around again.....

Typical, just after he can be registered against City.

That's fecking ridiculous money for a club just promoted and not long off financial troubles. That said, if he has a good season a big club might end up paying twice that to buy him, so it may be worth the risk.

Didnt his agent say he turned down an offer because the wages werent that high and in that case, the player wanted to stay on at Bologna.

If that is the case, then its not just big transfer fee.. it must also be pretty decent wages.

Aye and it's not just Uruguayans...

I think it's fair to say that's the case for all teen sensations - not that many of them make it to the top. I'd wager that there's a better chance of reaching the top if you stay at a smaller club where there's less pressure and more guaranteed game time. If you look at the last 25 Ballon D'Or winners, only the two Ronaldos and Messi were at elite clubs prior to the age of 21. The vast majority of the remaining award winners made that career-defining move at the age of 23-26, having been carefully nurtured at small-to-medium size clubs.

Indeed Gio

He is on about 10K a week at Bologna, so Spurs' offer must have been a piss-take.

Apparently Southampton's offer is 40K/week + a 1M signing on bonus.

It's somewhat bizarre that Bologna hold out for 20M on a player they pay 10K a week to. One of them figures is outrageous, probably both!
