Gary O'Neil | Sacked by Wolves

Since he took over at Bournemouth, he's been one of the best managers in the PL given what he has had to work with. Both Wolves and Bournemouth were dire before he joined them and he transformed the style of play for both sides almost immediately.

Thats interesting hes a really good coach but why would he come unless hes manager? Seems odd

Same thoughts. If he was willing, then I'd assume it would be under the guise of 'you get first dibs if we sack the manager (whoever that may be come 24/25 season)'. Oh and also a feck ton of money  but I'd doubt we would be giving big wages for that kind of role that would dwarf/equal what he's getting now.

I can't think of one occasion where a clearly capable Premiership manager takes a step down to join a bigger club in a lesser role (jobtitle wise).

The story has no substance at all, but out of Potter, Southgate, or O'Neil, then I'd rather we take a punt on O'Neil.

Very uninspiring group but I agree, out of the 3 it'd be O'Neil for me.

As a coach? I'd take Potter or O'Neil would be weird though. England can keep Southgate no matter what job he would take

I was really impressed by him but he's had an awful start this season. Losing Neto obviously isn't great, but I've not seen them this season so don't know what their issues have been.

EDIT: Just had a look at their results and they've had a tough start in terms of fixtures. Brighton and City next too. Will be interesting to see if they can build form in the easier run after that.

Losing kilman and not replacing him then losin Mosquera for the season hasn’t helped him but he needs to stop trying to play 4 at the back when don't have the players to do it..

Shame, he hasn't really been able to survive defensively after the outgoings this summer.

They kinda fecked him over. Tough start too. Still think he's a good mid table manager

Did a good job at Bournemouth and started well at Wolves, but I don't see how he survives this.

Shipped 40 goals already. The three promoted sides are all hopeless defensively, but Wolves make them look like Sacchi's Milan.

Wolves' next game is on 22nd December vs Leicester at home. They'll probably sack O'Neill over next few days and get ready for that game with another manager. Also host United on boxing day.

He's lost 52 out of the 100 games he's managed between Bournemouth and Wolves. That's wild.

The Wolves job does seem a bit shit to be fair. They're having to sell big players every window and the Mendes link that got them a load of talent isn't there anymore, so they aren't replacing them well. Shouldn't be 19th, mind you, before I can't help but feel O'Neil is a little hard done by.

Well yeah, they're not playing on easy mode like when they were Jorge Mendes FC and mysteriously seeing Europa League level players rock up to Molineux while they were in the Championship, but surely they still have a lot more quality than the promoted sides.

How they have a significantly worse defence than Southampton who are suicidally playing out from the back with players that can't do it and gifting the opposition goals every week, or Ipswich who are still relying on League One players is beyond me.

That is pretty crazy, yeah, and they ought to be doing better. I just imagine the mood around Wolves has been dire for a while now given the situation. They also seem to get a pretty raw deal with decisions whenever I watch them.

Not sure if changing the manager would help that much when our owners that aren’t interested in investing or selling
We’ve got a terribly unbalanced squad due to years of poor recruitment. It’s gonna take a lot to sort this mess out.

Their center backs are shite. The guy they bought to replace Kilman is out for the season. They're in an intense pressure situation where the defenders look shot of confidence, probably doesnt help.

I think their manager is definitely a good one, they just have a bit of a shit team with maybe 2-3 very good players that make the quality look better than it is.

Sold players and didn't replace them properly and then expect the manager to keep getting the same results...

Think I said at the start of the season they needed at least player in at CB, MF and a forward. Don't think I was too wrong with that assessment.

Going back to the end of last season:

They have a talented squad, O'Neil was really underperforming. Deserved sacking and I think they'll stay up if they get their next appointment right.

Expected. Man do we all look silly after criticising Bournemouth for sacking him.

The question for the next manager is if wolves have any money to spend. They've been cutting costs for a couple of seasons now

I think hes still a good coach, hit a torrid time. What he did for Bournemouth and for the first season at Wolves shouldn't really be brushed under the carpet.

At the moment he seems to be a quick fix guy rather than a long term appointment. He's lost 52 of 100 games managed and his teams average 2 goals conceded per game in the league. He will have to step down to the Championship after this I reckon.
