Great discussion. David Ornstein with some really good perspective.

Personally. I think City will be champions with 100+ points. Haaland with 40+ goals.
Top 4 will be a crap shoot between Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool.

The Liverpool that are two points below Bournemouth and are going to get royally fecked by Man City on Sunday?

For me it'll be City top, Arsenal second and third/fourth between Spurs, Chelsea and Manchester United. Liverpool'll just about finish seventh but Newcastle United have had a pretty good start and no European football so hard to say.

Thanks for posting this by the way. Think the next three matches will be huge. In those, you have:

MD11: Manchester United v Newcastle United
MD11: Liverpool v Manchester City
MD12: Manchester United v Tottenham Hotspur
MD13: Chelsea v Manchester United
MD13: Tottenham Hotspur v Newcastle United

Annoying that Arsenal v City was supposed to be on MD12 but has been rescheduled likely to next year.

Liverpool??

Nahh no chance of a top 6 finish for them.
Totally understand your sentiment. I just have a lot of respect for Klopp to turn it around. My gut feeling is they will have a rally later on. But fair play on your guess.

haha, yes, I get it too. I just got that sneaky feeling that Klopp will figure out how to turn it around and go on a run. Bear in mind, this is largely the same team that has been so good the last 3/4 years. Klopp is going through his first refresh. Losing Mane. Replacing Firmino with Nunez. Getting a new midfielder to supplement Henderson/Fabinho. Robertson being injured long term. It'll take some time, but I think they will get better. January will be key for them. Maybe they'll get a midfielder in Jan and things will change or something.

Definitely agree that Spurs and United will be thereabouts. But hard to see how injuries will affect things. E.g. Martial is already out for long periods. Harry Kane might go on a break as well.

Thanks for sharing the key matches too. Those look like really key games.

Newcastle are on form right now. Gonna be fun to watch. or not. :wenger: :wenger:

All fair points, but looking at Liverpool's fixtures, which games could they really "go on a run" with??

Their defence is shoddy, their midfield is old, and they have Darwin up top, they can't keep clean sheets, and they can't score enough at the other end.

Klopp is finished as a top level manager, all managers have a shef life, and his has come and gone.

Liverpool will be very fortunate to finish to get into the Conference next season.

I get what you mean. This will be Klopp's first refresh. It'll be interesting to see how that goes. As well as Guardiola has refreshed? Or will it fail? I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss him, though. He has done well at Dortmund and then Liverpool. He has shown he knows how to build a team multiple times. How long the latest rebuild will take though, is the million dollar question.

I'm always surprised how little credit even our own fans give us for potentially getting top 4 this season.
I think how well we do this season will largely depend on luck with injuries. We've not been spectacular with that, the last few seasons, have we? And we're playing a high pressing game as well with a manager playing in EPL for the first time so he is still learning the intensity. Already, Martial is out for many games. Rashford has a knock. If Martinez gets injured. Can you imagine? Or Dalot? Or even Ronaldo?

Surely you can say that (injuries) about any side?
What if Arsenal's key players all get injured, or City's, or Chelsea's etc etc....

Why is it only us that could pick up injuries??

Combo of historical injuries plaguing us + we don't really have much depth + we are already facing injuries to key positions even now.

Are you saying that other sides don't have a history of injuries?
Or that other sides have plenty of depth?
Who do Liverpool have to replace Darwin as a striker?
Arsenal for Jesus?

It just seems that only injuries could affect us and us alone, which is somewhat of an odd thing to say....

No, I didn't say that. I was directly replying to your statement about Man Utd. I said I think Man Utd's performance will largely depend on luck with injuries. I made no mention of other clubs.

We have a coach who likes high pressing and is managing in the EPL for the first time so he is still learning EPL intensity. The squad is not settled, is in transition and lacks depth. Our key players are old. We have horrific injury track record the last 5 years. As a matter of fact, we already have key players injured for a month already now.

Football comes in cycles like a lot of things. We have seen this previously. Although not as prevalent with oil money clubs perhaps.

Liverpool had their opportunities over the past seasons and got their league title. Their time is done now and they will go back to being a top 6 Club.

However, Klopp is not finished as a top level manager. He will go elsewhere and start his new club on a cycle.

(Although he has said about retiring or taking and extended break iirc).

Relating to United, we can hope that our new cycle is well underway before the scousers start theirs.

Nahh, Klopp may well go elsewhere, but in terms of doing anything like winning the Champions League, he won't be doing that again, so yeah, his time winning that trophy and being considered as a top class manager has been and gone.

He is finished, and I think he knows it.

He was in a final 3 months ago. I don't think his career is over yet.

Yeah, I don't think he's finished, either. Kinda surprised with all the doom mongering. For me, this is his first refresh at Liverpool. It remains to be seen if he will be able to rebuild it successfully or not. I wouldn't write him off so soon, seeing as he has built multiple teams at multiple clubs.

I guess it really depends, as you say, what Klopp wants to do going forward. At 55, I think he still has another 5 years in him. It could be Liverpool or elsewhere. IMO, I think he'll want to knock us off our perch.

Wait people actually pay to listen to Gary Neville’s opinions?
To be fair, I think those events have other famous ex players like Roy Keane coming in to chat. So people are probably paying to listen to them.

FFS…. Really?!?

The betting exchanges will print people money if they think Liverpool have no chance of top four. They are roughly joint 3rd favs with Spurs to finish top four.

Nahh, Liverpool will not be in the top 4, Conference football is the best they can hope for next season.

Exactly. Even though I hate those feckers so much, they are only team to go on a run of 10 straight wins (apart from City).

City
Arsenal
Liverpool

These 3 are guaranteed. The 4th place is up for grabs. I can see Chelsea taking it.

And so what if he was, how is that relevant ti what is going on now this season especially??

It just seems like a reactionary take. He's had bad seasons before, I'm not going to write him off after a bad couple of months.

Liverpool are anything but guaranteed, they are 3 points from a relegation place currently, and 5 points behind Bournemouth as things stand, so where on earth is this certainty that they will get a top 4 place coming from, when all evidence suggests and points towards then not doing so.

I agree. I'm guessing the same 4 clubs for top 4 as well. Additionally, I think Spurs and Man Utd will be thereabouts as well but might lose out at the end.

At this point, I have to assume you're trolling. :wenger: :D

Nope not trolling at all in the slightest.

There is nothing at all to suggest or support the notion that this season Liverpool will finish in the top 4, nothing at all.
They are closer to the relegation zone, then a top 4 place currently, and that is no great surprise, as their team/squad is miles away from being a top 4 one.

We will finish at least 20 points if not more ahead of Liverpool this season.

Last season PTSD. But they’ll all pretend they was on board when things start looking bright in March.

Spurs - not better than us
Chelsea - not better than us
Arsenal - not better than us.

But we apparently we have no chance? That is all non form related and as we already know the least predictable team currently has the best form and is top of the league and more favourable for Top 4.

What makes you say they're not all better than us? They all finished ahead of us last seasonand they are still ahead of us. Arsenal and spurs considerably ahead of us already.

We have 2 strikers, ones injury prone and ones Ronaldo who's 37 and can't play every game.

We're a varane injury away from Maguire playing every game, we've no one to cover Ericson and we've a set of wingers that can't cross.

I'm not ruling out top 4. But I've been consistent in what my expectations are and that's us playing an attacking style and we start to dominate teams. If we finish 6th but we can see progression in our play but lack consistency I'll not be too downhearted. We add to our squad and hopefully next see we see more consistency.

Patience is the key, this rebuild is minimum 3 years but likely 5 before We're a serious contender.

You can't undo a decade or more neglect over night

3 points behind United.

That City fan was given a platform to play the victim whilst the Spurs fan was just shut down.

Don't agree with Neville about FFP, he thinks owners should be able to invest whatever they want but what about the clubs being stable long term? If owners bring in players on massive contracts higher than club revenue what happens if the owner decides to stop investing or walk away.
He also says FFP stops clubs like Brentford and Brighton going up the leagues but these clubs are proving you can do it if the club is run well.

Carraghers take on Chelsea was exactly how I felt during the transfer window. "There's so many smart people in football, I can't believe it just takes Todd Boehly to find a way that nobodys ever thought of":lol:
