Gary Neville - Pundit

I always feel like there are two types of centre-back: the leaders and the people who shine best with a leader next to them. Leaders are people like Van Dijk, Terry, Kompany, Ferdinand, Ramos. The second group is players like Varane, Sule, Manolas and Stones.

United's problem to me is that all of your defenders are the second group. Any of Lindelof, Maguire or Bailly would probably look very good given a run of games next to Van Dijk or Ruben Dias. That's what Neville is saying as far as I can tell and I think he's spot on.

Carragher is more anti-United than Neville. Why doesn't he have a similar moaning thread to this one? Presumably because posters expect Neville to be as biased as they are.

It's telling that Neville's commentary on officiating is usually backed up by the referees themselves. Obviously the caf wants to win every foul. But a neutral won't see it that way. Neville's crime appears to be that he's better at neutrality than his critics in this thread.

Yep, couldn't have put it better. Spending 80 million on Maguire was a dreadful piece of business.
But no worse than spending 66 million on Lindelof+Bailly.

Maguire has already played 13,996 league minutes since August 2019. Meanwhile, Lindelof+Bailly have play a combined total of 12,692 minutes since they joined in 2017 and 2016 respectively.

Not only is Maguire a better defender, he's actually been available to do his job. The premium we paid was to guarantee zero acclimatising time (unlike Lindelof+Bailly who both looked uncertain to make it) and a player who has an exemplary fitness record.

I don’t understand why Pool fans are abusing him. Yes they would be wound up, but why are they even on his page? Imagine going to a United legend’s page straight after a defeat to watch him mock you and then hurl abuse at him. This is while knowing full well that we all love him and he is the biggest WUM of all United fans  Just weird.

Neville was bang on yesterday, when he said as a Man Utd manager you can win, lose or draw games but you can’t be boring and that was boring

Ole is doing the minimum to get top 4 and save his job. Next year the same. Once he drops out of it at the end of the season, he will get the sack. Pragmatic, but that's how it goes.

No other Utd manager has got away with it, Ole won't either.

He will, if he gets top 4. No manager survived that, but boring football plenty did.

Yeah he has adopted to a defensive style just to save his job and that's sad to see

I don’t even think it’s defensive because when we are attacked we look a bag of nerves

and it’s not attacking

it’s just 11 players on the pitch who he hopes perform
He’d be a great person to have in the club, he seems to have a good rapport with the players, but he isn’t a manager. He needs to stop calling them boys as well, that’s annoying a tits

Not surprised to see Neville being anti-Solksjaer. You can always rely on him to be unbiased about criticism of his friends and former colleagues.

Crazy how he got away with a few boring games...even a couple of boring season. Who knows why fans cut him some slack
The point is every United manager had boring games, other than LVG (it was more than just the boringness that cost him his job though), and possibly Dave Sexton, it's always been results that have judged whether a manager keeps his job or not.

He saw that Leicester dropped points so he was happy with the draw. Don’t get me wrong I think he’s done a good job but I actually think this is as far as he can bring us. I guess some will accept top 4 and chasing for a cup until the penultimate stage and we get knocked out but it’s pushing for a title is what we should be aiming for.

I agree with him

Anyway if we gather all his quotes vs The Spitter quotes over the past 4 years i think he's said more controversial things about Utd than Jamie. Dunno why is it that way

Saying Fred should have been booked there, what is he on sometimes.

Tactical foul stopping a counter. It should be a yellow, but refs never seem to do it anymore.

City and pool have it mastered

Spot on at the start of the second half.

Our speed of passing is shite

He is forever nervous when commenting about us. Henserson didnt have to make a save during their so called good period going forward, we even had all the chances then as well

Because he's a fan. It's like us in the match day thread forever expecting the worst and cacking it every time West Ham attack.

Another one bites the dust at Salford...

There is something hilarious about how trigger happy Neville is with managers.

Didn’t they just win a trophy a week ago? Gary is making Abramovich look measured in terms of managers.

I hope Carragher makes a dig along the lines of “Salford are in a rebuild period. It’d be mad to sack the manager”

EDIT: He did not disappoint

The Nevilles are dodgy as feck, I wouldn’t trust either of them especially Phil as he seemed to push for Nuno to be sacked at Valencia so Gary could take over.
