Bolton Wanderers centre-back Gary Cahill has indicated that he is ready to leave the Reebok Stadium, saying that he wants a "big club" move one day. He has been linked with Manchester United and Tottenham in particular in the past.
The 24-year-old has impressed greatly for Bolton over the past couple of years and scored five goals in 29 appearances last season to help haul Owen Coyle's side to Premier League safety. The defender was thought to be in contention for Fabio Capello's World Cup squad until an arm injury ruled him out for much of the season. He has since been awarded his first England cap in September against Bulgaria.
Manchester United were said to be considering a £15million bid for Cahill over the summer. Meanwhile, Tottenham have also been linked with the centre-back, given the long-term injury doubts over both Ledley King and Jonathan Woodgate .
Both Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson and Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp will be encouraged by Cahill's comments yesterday which indicated that he is looking for a move.
According to The Star on Sunday, Cahill said, “I am an ambitious lad who wants to play at the top of my game. Who knows what the future holds?
“At this minute I am concentrating on playing well for Bolton but hopefully, I will play for a top club one day.”
Cahill will have impressed Redknapp again yesterday, having played in Bolton's 4-2 victory over Tottenham.
