Gaming PCs

This is true.

However, after him spending close to a grand I suspect he is going to be that little more careful than usual.

Precisely :D

I havn't bothered with one up to this point in my life, and I've been wrist-deep in my computer's hardware numerous times.

But I've not before had to handle nearly £1,000 worth of components at one time so I'll be a tad more careful this time ;)

I just received this PM from a newbie called Analyze:

"I saw your gaming PC thread,since I am a newbie I am PM'ing you.

Don't get the P45 motherboard. It has crossfire with two PCI-E 16x slots at 8x+8x.So if you want to upgrade your PC with another ATI 4850 then it will not run to its full potential.

Instead get an X38/X48 based motherboard.they do crossfire at 16x+16x."

Just looked this up and it's true, so it's very useful indeed! :D

I'll be getting a Gigabyte X48 motherboard rather than the Asus one. It's forty pounds more, but I won't be getting the sound card after all, so it only works out at about twelve pounds more.

And since it'll mean I get much more out of my graphics cards then I'll definitely be doing it :D

Getting a Q9450 on a X38 board and ATI 4850 this week probably, I'll add another 4850 for Crossfire later on
