Games being released in 2009

Microsoft are playing the same game as they did with Gears 2 last year and announcing stuff nearer it's release. Of course ironically one of the biggest titles everyone is waiting for is Alan Wake which is taking YEARS to come out (but the same was true for the first Max Payne and that turned out to be a cracker)

Forza 3 and Mass Effect 2 look like strong possibilities for this year. Possibly another Rare game (Perfect Dark 2? Killer Instinct 3?) and something from Peter Molyneux's special brains (Dmitri? BC?)

OpFlash 2 isn't by Bohemia so I'm gonna wait and see on that one. Armed Assault 2 on the other hand IS by Bohemia so will be a day one purchase! :D
 
I still haven't played Armed Assault yet. I downloaded it ages ago on Steam but it won't run on my PC for some reason :(

What a brilliant game Operation Flashpoint was though. Sequel looks a bit sexy tbf

The games I listed are all published by Sony, and apart from Insomniac Games (Ratchet & Clank), the developers are all owned by Sony - Naughty Dog (Uncharted), Santa Monica (GoW), Polyphony Digital (GT). Any publisher is not going to release all of its big titles at the same time but rather try to spread them out. They have enough competition from the multi-platform 3rd party games as it is, especially towards the end of the year.

GTA IV is isn't that great, no where near as good as the previous three.
 
I know Resident Evil 5 is being released around March time.
Killzone two is due for release next month.
Bioshock 2 is due to be out before the holiday season. Though I'm not sure what holiday season they mean.

They're the games I'm looking forward to, along with Final Fantasy.

Anyone know if Mass Effect 2 will be on the PS3?

It gets worse with the fact that next Christmas all games will have to go up against FIFA 2010 and COD5 (FIFA 2009 and COD:WaW being the two biggest sellers over the last Christmas period), so there's 100 quid gone straight off the bat for a lot of game players. People get caught in these holes where they buy basically the same product year after year after year, and that's what you are going up against. Right or wrong, or whether these people are a bit daft or not is by the by, they will buy those two games, and then maybe look around for one or two more. There have been some major flops over the last Christmas period because all of the publishers try to cram in a big title at the same time, and there simply is not enough cash to go around. Games like Mirrors Edge and Banjo Kazooie fell flat on their faces.
 
I thought they hadn't even started on FF13 on the 360? although I suspect they said that to appease the ranting fannyboys

EA are publishing the remaining two games in the trilogy, but the likelihood Microsoft has them locked up for 360 and PC (at least for a while)
 
Can't they just make the 360 version really shit? I mean do what Micrsoft do and just rush it out?

I hope so, it's the one game I am desperate to play.

Nothing stands out for me apart from Resi 5, Uncharted 2 and Heavy Rain.

Yes, I forgot that EA bought them, but the original had the "Only on XBox 360" on it, which suggests that Microsoft paid for that in some way or another. Pretty pointless releasing parts of it when the first part cannot be played.
 
Mass Effect 2 is going to be 360-exclusive for a couple of months first, before being released onto PC, just like the original. Not too sure about it being released on PS3, but it sure has great expectations to live up to.

Mass Effect 2 Could Come to PS3
US, March 14, 2008 - Mass Effect 2, the second in a planned trilogy of sci-fi role-playing games from developer BioWare, will be exclusive to the Xbox 360, but possibly for a short time only, a company spokesman told the British gaming site CVG today.

Electronic Arts bought BioWare in January, prompting speculation that the next two installments in the Mass Effect trilogy would be multiplatform in one form or another.

"I believe we'll be Xbox 360 exclusive for at least a short period of time," BioWare senior manager Matt Atwood told CVG. "We're still working out the details on that, but we've had a great relationship with Microsoft and done very well."

Microsoft recently released the first round of downloadable content for the first Mass Effect, but the company hasn't said much about what form future installments will take on the Xbox 360.

"We have no announcements on future Mass Effect projects at this time," a microsoft spokesman told IGN. "Additional inquiries may be sent to Electronic Arts."

Atwood also said a PC version of Mass Effect 2 is also likely. "We haven't solidified the plans yet but we're headed in the direction where we want to be as close as possible [on PC]," he said.

But seriously I'd advise you to pick up a 360/PS3, how you've been getting on with that thing alone beats me, unless your a lonely housewife or facing a mid-life crisis.

Hadn't heard of it before. Looked up on it, can't say I like it so much off the screen shots / video but I'll see when it comes out.

How I long for a new but old style AOE2 / RA2 game...

Have you seen the newest Red Alert, it looked awesome when i saw it at my mates, spewing its not released on Mac :(

I know it's out already but Mushroom Men:The Spore Wars is suppose to be somewhat hilarious.

If you download Wii Ware world of goo is a must have as well.

You never played any of the total war games? You're missing out man. Second favourite game ever is Rome Total War after AoE2

Hmm I heard it wasn't a patch on what the old ones were. I was thinking whether to bother with it... Another dilemma - do I download it for my computer or pay for it...

I stopped playing games on my computer around the times I was playing Ra2, AoE2, Counterstrike, Hitman, Max Payne etc so that might explain why.
