Gai Assulin signs for City | And now he's been released

He's a hyped young player. One Guardiola knows very well from Barcelona B where they won the championship together.

But unlike the other young players Guardiola has brought through the system at Barcelona, Assulin barely got to play any games for him in the first team.

Wasn't he suppose to be like the next next black Messi?

Isnt everybody?

He was player of the tournament at one of the youth tournaments. So his hype went through the roof before he played a game for Barcelona. A couple of matches for Barcelona and they were happy enough to let him leave for free.

Yep, his career seems to be advancing alot like Dos Santos'.

I knew he was on trial there, that's all I know about him though.

Very much so. Possibly even worse, as he or who ever is running his career was stupid enough to bring him to City. Yeah, that's a place for a young player...

His agent is probably Pini Zahavi so cash always comes first.

He does work with him, and I'm sure Zahavi's connections got him the trial at City at the very least. When it comes to decision making, though, a lot of the young Israeli players are led by their parents.

Israeli signing for an Arab club, the UN should look to Manchester.

His nephew, Alex Zahavi (I think?) is supposed to be the next best thing. Plays as a winger for Sporting. Eligible for about three or four different countries too!

I think they've loaned him to an Israeli club. I'm barely interested in Israeli football, but I'm pretty sure he's in the Israeli League now. The poor lad.

I don't see how playing in the Israeli league would be of any benefit to a young player schooled in Portugal.

As far as Assulin goes if he was of any sort of quality Barca wouldn't have let him go for nothing.

Macabi Hifa??

Welcome to the elite development squad....

Manchester City have completed the signing of former Barcelona starlet Gai Assulin.

The 19-year-old midfielder left the Catalan giants last summer, despite being tipped as one of their brightest prospects. Assulin has been training with City for a number of weeks, and he has now signed a two-and-a-half year deal with the club.

"I had heard a lot about City, and as soon as I saw the club I wanted to stay," the Israeli international stated. "I'm at a great club and I hope to be here a long time. I have to take my opportunity and learn every day in training."

"I'd never actually heard of City, but as soon as I saw the money I wanted to stay." The Israeli international stated. "I'm at a 'club' and you know, I'll take my opportunity and learn about moving to bigger clubs in training."

"As soon as I saw the club I wanted to stay" ??
I know footballers always resort to clichés generic sentences but this is ridiculous.

Would be refreshing with someone stating "I know my new team-mates aren't quite up to my standard - but I am convinced I can lift the team. I hope the manager will make some changes and bring in some better players - otherwise I expect my stay here to be short. This is just a stepping stone for me anyway - and I can't see myself here more than 2 seasons. The money was good though - I had better offers but it was really all about the money"

He may not be too popular with his teammates - but he would have created headlines :)

i think lassana diarra said something like that at portsmouth

Very surprising that, he was one of the better players against our reserves the other night.

Hope Brighton pick him up, looked pretty good when he played, and it was like watching messi (looks not skill)

Yeah, that is strange. Definitely looked one of the more talented players in the game. Really faded though. Maybe not putting enough effort into training?

He's 21, and probably not good enough to make the step up.

Had to happen to make room for Santa Cruz, Adebayor and others to play in their reserves ;)

I could see him going back to Spain and playing for a mid-table club there. The only thing holding him back from achieving that level at least is that he's so ridiculously injury-prone.
