Gabriele Biancheri

Wales have just topped their group so have qualified for the Euro U17's Finals (for the first time, apparently!)

It was a dramatic end to the 3 game group, with all teams able to top the group until the last minute - Wales were 2-0 down to Montenegro at HT (both goals in 1st half injury time). At that stage Montenegro topped the group. They ended up bottom when Wales came back to draw 2-2. Still wasn't in Wales hands as a winner in the other game would have seen that team through as group winners, but it finished 0-0 so Wales were the qualifiers.

I wasn't able to watch it, or Biancheri, as closely as I intended as I was watching it while suffering bouts of sickness (sorry for the TMI), but he played the first 75 minutes or so - going off at 2-1 to Montenegro. He showed some decent touches and technique, and had one good spin and shot that brought a good save, but I didn't think he was in the game as much as the first match v Scotland which I also watched and he scored in. But happy to be corrected about that as, like I said, I unfortunately missed parts of the game.

That's nice, some good experience coming his way then in the summer.

Nice scenes.

Named in the Wales squad yesterday for the U17 Euro's which are in a couple of weeks.

Fixtures are Hungary (17th - 7pm), Republic of Ireland (20th - 3.30pm) and Poland (23rd - 7pm).

Supposed to be the next big thing from the academy.
As someone that watches pretty much all the academy matches, I’m not sure I agree. He’s a great poacher and one of those strikers that is always in the right place at the right time however his overall play and strength will need to improve considerably if he’s to play at the top level.

Ibragimov on the other hand…

Saw a news story about him which suggested he was one to watch, as well as his Wales appearances.

Think I saw the same/similar story - on MSN news anyway (don't judge me!). I was confused yeah, haven't really seen/read him tipped quite "that high" on here, versus the likes of a few others. Also looked at the highlights compilation linked to the article I read (I don't watch the reserves/youth as i don't have access, so don't know much outside of what i see/read on here) and nothing looked particularly "wow". Some tidy/decent finishing etc. Anyway, hard to judge with youngsters as to who will make the step up I guess. Here's hoping.

I think Biancheri has improved a lot - he is a very unusual United-striker because he is more like a Jamie Vardy-type of player who annoys the hell out of defenders, and much less raw talent. And that combined with being good at scoring goals, can take you far

If Garnacho and Mainoo are the standard then he's below the standard I'd expect to make it at United at this point, never say never though.

Is he above the McTominay benchmark?

Yeah but 95% of our graduates are above that, I don't think anyone thought McTominay was gonna make it.

Lacey and Amass probably the next in line for chances? IF they stay fit?

He's a tidy player but I'd be surprised if he ever even features for the first team. Happy to be proven wrong though.

One step at a time, too early to say anything, but he looks a good player. He also seems to have that habit of being at the right place and time to score goals, and that is very valuable skill. That alone can help him get a solid pro career if he can adapt to men's game and keep chipping goals.

Heard from a few people now that's he's a huge talent. Shea Lacey hopefully can recover from his injuries but it hurts your development when you're out for that long.

Everything I've seen of Biancheri to date suggests to me that he's an outstanding prospect. There's an intelligence, determination and maturity to his game that marks him out in my mind as one to watch for sure.

“Right place, right time” is 90% of Haaland’s goals. It certainly isn’t a trait to raise your nose at. A striker being where you want him to be is the best sort of striker.

I hope he continues to develop the way he’s going.

Surely Italy will make a play to poach him?

Scores for Wales under 19 vs Scotland. I think that's 18 for the season in all competitions. I'd love to see him get a chance in the senior side.
